So yeah, the winner is REALLY REALLY GOOD. I gave my 20 to Bear In Heaven because it was a discovery for me though. I'm also incredibly pleased B>E>A>K did well because it really does not come across as particularly BJ-friendly, even amongst the alt crowd.

 

I'm a bit sad about Young Dreams though! If I had to do mediocrely with something though, then it'd be this edition. I can do better.

I do feel offended. I didn't compose I Won't Worry. I never said it was a masterpiece. But I'm clearly not allowed to say I didn't really like any of the other submissions - which other people have also said about this round of Unknown Pleasures.

for the record, i didn't actually mind Tying Tiffany too much, just felt it was a little bit too copycat and reductive. some songs sound like others (intentionally or not, doesn't matter) and do something great that can stand up against those that it feels similar to, eg. The Concept from a few contests ago. but sometime it just highlights its FLAWS and make you realise that its really not quite up to much in comparison. sorry if my taste offends you.

Catching up, these are the best results for some time in this. Pleased my song got almost 100 points after I've flopped completely the last couple of times, and that it beat Johnny Lazer which is possibly the worst song ever entered. Excellent that my top 3 discoveries (and 3 of the 4 (5 if you include my own) great songs) each finished in the top 6, and that I voted for 5 of the top 6. Therefore glad Bear in Heaven fell at the end as it was the only one I didn't vote for.

Yep, I'm really not sure what Freeze was thinking when he entered this. I know it's horrid to put genre restrictions on and that's why we don't, but it's implied that something vaguely alternative or just different should be sent, rather than generic synth-pop. It's not as if it's particularly restrictive since Alt is rather expansive and can include basically anything BUT Freeze's entry - I'd also say Hip-Hop or Metal would be in the spirit of the contest since it's against the reasonably dominant BJ norm but because no-one who participates in this seems to be hugely keen on those genres, we don't see many/any entries.

Fourth. You're probably forgetting Freeze unless you're being SO shady you're forgetting Dandy*...

In fairness to Freeze, it was his second choice and while I didn't think the song was up to much, at all (second-worst in the contest for me), it did stand out, although I did expect a complete shunning of it by almost everyone and was surprised it did so well in the end - so clearly that sort of thing has SOME fans here otherwise it would have completely bombed.
