04. fun. - Some Nights

Chart Run: [16-1-1-2-1-4-7-9-4-7-6-7-9-10-14-19-22-18-25-22-27]

Points: 316

The song of my Summer, Autumn and most of the Winter, who'd have thought that fun. could top We Are Young? At a time when i was struggling to say goodbye to my sister who visited me for my birthday, this song came to me and really hit me hard. It was one of those one listens = instantly hooked things, and it stayed with me for a hell of a long time. The anthemic chorus, the heartfelt lyrics and the touching video make this my second favourite song of the year (behind my #1 in this countdown), but it only manages #4 here. I'm actually disgusted at the two songs that beat it to #2, but its chart run is nothing to be ashamed of.

Managing two runs at #1 and months in the top 10, it set up the album to become a favourite of mine, and led me to discover how truly incredible the band are. Feel-good music at its best, Some Nights is truly empowering and special in so, so many ways.

#3 Album up next. Stars (again)

03. fun. - Some Nights

Top Songs:

11.0 Some Nights

10.0 Out on the Town

10.0 Stars

10.0 We Are Young

9.5 Carry On

9.0 All Alone

Talk of the devil. Some Nights appeared at first a simple concoction of feel-good, rock-lite summery goodness, but upon further listens it's so much more than that. It is feel-good and it is fun, pop-rock, but it's also a wondrous collection of self-help, love-all anthems, each with an equally as encapsulating chorus and catchy lyrics.

The highlight (as of the last few weeks) is Out On The Town, which appears as a bonus track, and is just that, a bonus so brilliant it tops the wonderful cake off with icing and more. Stars is a hidden gem that just grows and grows with more listens, and that's all without mentioning the three incredibly perfect singles that have taken the world by storm. Some Nights is amaze (^), and We Are Young is an anthem (^^), and Carry On remains a brilliant follow up. All in all a very solid package, with perhaps only one dud note (One Foot).

Hey :D

03. Nicki Minaj - Pound The Alarm

Oh dear. Bitter sweet here. I loved Pound The Alarm when i first heard it, and it instantly became my jam for a few months (the verses remain some of Nicki's finest), but the song as a whole is so unlistenable now, and just screams hot mess (in a bad way). Definitely a fun one when morbidly drunk, but apart from that the final 30 seconds are like torture now. Shocking how i could have changed my opinion in the space of a few months, but i guess i overplayed it. The video however is a masterpiece of epic proportions. So much thought and heart has gone into it, and it just oozes class :arrr:

I still have so much love for Nicki, but she really needs to get back to what she does best with the new era (the Re-Up had touches of brilliance, just stay on the right track baby, because you weren't born this way.

I will be doing a top 10 of my actual favourite songs, as i now regret basing it solely on chart runs. You live some and learn some.

PTA! <3

It deserved to be so much bigger than it actually was! :(

02. Lana Del Rey - Born To Die (Paradise Edition)

Top Songs:

11.0 Without You

10.0 National Anthem

10.0 Dark Paradise

9.5 Summertime Sadness

9.5 Gods & Monsters

9.5 Blue Jeans

Mustering a multitude of inclusions on my weekly singles chart, there is no doubt that Lana has been the most present artist of 2012 in my charts. It took me a while to fall for her chilling spell, but when I did i was hooked. From the sublime (Ride), to the mournful (Dark Paradise), to the euphoric (Lucky Ones) the song that stands tall above the rest has to be Without You. The verses are by no means the best on the album, but with that enchanting, haunting chorus, there really isn't another song that has spoke to me and chilled my core more here.

A song for every occasion (getting my red dress on, tasting some Dr Pepper pussy, running from the cops in my black bikini top), Lana encapsulated everything that was right and wrong with me this year, did it with style and grace and thrust it back into my face in an orgasmic rush. And I was a Monster.

I'm surprised Fazer made your chart, I comment in full later when you announce your #1

01. Loreen - Heal

Top Songs:

11.0 See You Again

11.0 My Heart is Refusing Me

10.0 Euphoria

10.0 Breaking Robot

10.0 Crying Out Your Name

9.5 Everytime

9.5 Sidewalk

9.0 Sober

8.5 Heal

8.5 In My Head

8.0 If She's The One

8.0 Do We Even Matter

My #1 album of the year comes from the glorious gem that is Loreen. A Buzzjack favourite, and rightfully so, for me 'Heal' is faultless. The lowest points are highs that other artists would dream of, and the highs of the album are majestic and insatiable wonders. It all started when Euphoria finally struck that chord with me, and ascended the ranks to become my anthemdom. For a while that was all i knew, until i bravely decided to explore more of what the Swedish beauty had to offer.

A new favourite song everytime i listen (it's currently See You Again), Heal is both heartbreaking, tender, explosive, loving and orgasmic. My Heart is Refusing Me is each of these together in a wonderous concoction of perfection, and most shockingly Loreen manages to maintain this throughout the album. The title really fits the album, as no matter what the occasion or mood, Heal will offer some sort of remedy to send you sky-high.

Considering my favourite albums the past few years have gone "The Fame", "The Fame Monster", "Born This Way", "Heal", it's testament that Loreen has managed to match the former albums in terms of life slaying. Well done Loreen, and i look forward to seeing you again in the future.
