Yes, but farmer and country vets having a shot-gun is not the same as half the population having hand-guns, or semi-automatic weapons. They have legitimate reasons for gun ownership, and very strict rules on how they can be stored and used.

It may still be possible that the child of a farmer may know where the guns are kept and get hold of them to go on a rampage, but you won't get as far with a shot-gun as you would with a semi-automatic, or hand-gun.

The higher the availability of guns, the more likelihood there is that a nutter will use one. The easier they are to fire multiple rounds, the more people the nutter can kill in a short space of time.

Step away from the political and moral arguments, it's basic sums and common sense.

how bloody horrendous. kids that young? i don't condone shootings at all obviously but to look in the faces of children that young, to then take away their life in such a brutal fashion is just awful. i just can't comprehend how ill you'd have to be to do that... major condolences to every family and friend of those who lost their lives.

i've been reading a lot about victoria soto, and what she did was so brave that it just conjurs up so much emotion. the other teachers who needlessly were murdered too, it's just ugh. unbelievable :(

I think that people who live in the countryside still use guns for shooting and beating though, so not everything has changed in Britain.

Those guns are controlled by strict laws though. In America you can pop down to Walmart and buy a gun and ammunition. It's easy to say stricter gun laws would control this, and whilst it definitely would, I think there are deeper social problems for America than a lot of people would believe. The pro-guns response to this shooting was teachers should be armed with guns, why? I think America is deeply rooted in fear, and that fear is a massive problem for the country. It's always going to be the minority tat use guns for horrible reasons, but there is no logical reason why people should be carrying guns to protect themselves, it's not the wild wild west anymore.

This is just so so so so awful. It really made me feel sick inside when I heard about it, the poor kids. :( One of the worst things I've heard in ages, sincere condolences to everyone affected by this.

I really hope this changes things somehow, no one should be able to get a gun into a school, no matter what. Guns are one of the few things on this earth that genuinely scare me, and everytime I see a tragedy like this in America I just get awfully worked up that one of the most advanced countries in the world have killing machines easily available to pretty much anyone - and that there are people who will defend free gun laws to their last breath.

Haha, sorry. I get a bit carried away at times.

That's one of the worst things as well for me - something must be done now, there's no explanation for having guns on the streets at all. -_-

This is so awful to hear/read about. So sad :(

I don't really think there is a point in even discussing the US attempting to bring in Gun Control as it'll never happen. To do anything Congress would have to overturn the second amendment to the US constitution (The right to arms) and then they'd step on the toes of the states by passing legislation in something that they have control over. Last time the Federal Government attempted to do something similar (ban slavery) the southern states got their knickers in a twist and the civil war shortly followed. Given the number of guns in the southern states and how ingrained it is in their culture we'd be looking at a lot of very angry, very heavily armed rednecks.

Still in shock over what happened. The poor kids who have been affected by this scarred for life. And the parents who lost their children in the shootings. There's not much America can do with the gun laws is there? But surely something has to be done to stop incidents like this happening.

Of course things can always be done, but whether they actually will be done is something else entirely.

It sickens me to think that this probably won't change anything, I don't think it would be at all harsh to say that if nothing changes they're ultimately saying that this is ok. That actually horrifies me more than the deaths of these children and their teachers, that it could just happen all over again so easily.

Barack Obama has said in a speech that things need to change, so hopefully something positive can come out of all of this.

There seems to be a shift in opinion. Even some people who were previously backing 100% freedom to own guns are admitting that they should place some kind of restrictions. When the right to bear arms was agreed, no-one envisioned modern weaponry. Those days it was muskets that took 15 seconds to reload, not machine guns.

A restriction on semi-automatic rifles that can fire multiple rounds with a lot of deadly force in a short space of time could reasonably be banned without contradicting the constitution, and requiring permits for all guns would be a positive move too. The true benefits of more sensible gun control would not be seen immediately, especially if there is no cultural shift. With no current requirement for registration, there's no way of knowing what proportion of the illegal weapons were handed in.

If the penalties for catching someone with an illegal weapon are high enough, the numbers will reduce in time, and it will be an extra means to send drug barrons to prison when they are found with a stash in the boot of their car.

Yet another psy-op to make the gullible masses call for gun control.

Well a Facebook page was set up for one of the teachers 4 days before the shootings. David Icke's forum has the screenshots. Can anyone explain that then? How does anyone know she's going to die? I was gobsmacked when I saw it as I can't explain it. Every FB page has a set-up date.

Actually, I quite fancy having one.

The creator of the original page probably changed the title/description of the page to a tribute after the shooting. I've liked pages before, only for them to change to something completely different a few weeks later.

Oh I see then. So it's not as strange as the Icke forums are making out. They say it was a set up ny the anti-gun lobby to get public support for their cause.

Why do you even bother? I wonder what happened in your life to make you behave in this manner. Or maybe you're just a troll who wants attention.

GO AWAY.

Well to be fair to Charsui, the story of the date on the FB page has been on most forums.

Are people really that gullible?

Apparently there's this gun rally happening on 19th in every state's capitol. People will be marching somewhere with their guns (which they obviously had permits to carry open or concealed). Some utter loons are calling this THE REVOLUTION / BEGINNING OF WAR.

Ugh.

Looking back on this I'm never surprised about things like this anymore. It's not really a matter of if they'll happen, it's when they'll happen which is the question. That's kinda scary.
