December 27, 201212 yr You are ALL OVER THE PLACE, Brah. I can't figure you out at all which I suppose is a good thing. I really don't see how you can LOVE a song you've only heard once though. Surely if you loved it you'd want to play it again?! I mean, that's what musical obsession IS. Anyway, best track so far is 'Disparate Youth', so I suppose I should be glad you made allowances for it. You should check out her first album, it's absolutely sublime. 'DNA' far outstrips 'Wings', although I suppose the former is much more 'generic' in terms of synth-led music, even if 'Wings' strikes me as a lot more derivative overall. I can't even with JLS (nadir of nadirs this year), Justin Bieber and Conor Maynard though. Who ARE you.
December 27, 201212 yr There are some very underrated songs in those last few sections, including Rack City, Trouble and As Long As You Love Me. :D There are also some very good songs that managed to chart in my personal chart, including We Are Young and Too Close, which made #1, and Wings, which made #2. These songs are in the link in my signature, which you have not replied to yet. :kink: It's in the Chart Histories forum now, so you can reply to it without everyone else judging you. :P
December 27, 201212 yr I can't even with JLS (nadir of nadirs this year), Justin Bieber and Conor Maynard though. Who ARE you. Someone with GREAT taste.

I think it gets slightly more cohesive higher up. Re: loving a song I've only heard once (did not think this would be so controversial eek) that's just because I 'love' like 50% of songs ever on first listen but not like OBSESSION, if it's like that then I would normally play it more (just with a couple of exceptions like 'Cough Cough' which I just never feel like listening to IDK why). Those songs that I love despite only hearing them once aren't anywhere near this EOY and most of them never come close to appearing even on my weekly charts. Will make sure to put Santigold 1+2 on my endless list of albums which I will one day stop being lazy and listen to. 'Wings' just caught me a bit by surprise as 'derivative' or not it sounded nothing like what I expected Little Mix to do whereas 'DNA' is 100% what I expected from them. I do still like it though, was another top 20 hit for them on my chart. They should count themselves lucky I don't still hate them like I did on the show!!1! And re: the last part that's just my TEENAGE GIRL side coming out far too easily. Surely you have guilty pleasures too? (Besides almost everyone else on BuzzJack likes Bieber to some extent these days). Edited December 27, 201212 yr by Bré
December 27, 201212 yr You have far too many rubbish top 10 hits in here for my liking. Thankfully, we're still low down and I don't expect it to be something that continues.
December 27, 201212 yr Author / \ 66 :: TOTALLY ENORMOUS EXTINCT DINOSAURS :: "HOUSEHOLD GOODS" / \ 23-28-19-4-14-22-x A_asfZhfTBk This is actually a song that I knew and loved long before 2012, but the latest of its billion re-releases was in 2012 and this was probably the year my love for it peaked so I thought it could go on here. Another song with a fantastic instrumental where the vocals don't really add very much, although there is something about the ~juxtaposition~ between the line 'I could be the dog to your bone, or something' and the following drop that makes my spine shiver slightly. TEED's other work hasn't quite grabbed me in the same way as this sadly. / \ 65 :: SUB FOCUS :: "FALLING DOWN" (FEAT. KENZIE MAY) / \ 14-10-1-2-6-14-22-26-x mcWA7EZoWok The third of my #1s to fall. This is just like an über generic dubstep song, the likes of which Modestep would probably make, but nonetheless I still feel like raving a little on the spot every time I hear this song and its belch-like noises. The simplicity of the lyrics kind of works with it although as with many others on this list it would work just as well as an instrumental. It's probably for the best that Sub Focus released this as a free download as it would have completely flopped on its arse, which is a shame because it is better than both of his actual hit singles this year. However, it's still not quite his best work and I think if it didn't have his name attached to this I probably would not have made it a #1. / \ 64 :: PLAN B :: "DEEPEST SHAME" / \ 21-10-12-15-22-32-x ke7LGK3UhxA The third single from one of my favourite albums of the year, 'ill Manors'. It sounds very different from the majority of the rest of the album, which is much more hip-hop oriented while this slightly regresses to his soul-influenced 2nd album 'The Defamation Of Strickland Banks'. That's not a bad thing - it is a good sound for him - but it felt like while 'ill Manors' (the song) and 'Lost My Way' marked some progression from Plan B, this song and especially it being released as a single shows he has some reluctance to move on from 'Strickland Banks'. It did make commercial sense to release this as a single though. And oddly it actually sounds better in the context of the album than it does as a standalone track. Would still have preferred him to not put any tracks like this on the 'ill Manors' album though. Because I've got behind schedule now and I'm still supposed to post another 13 songs today which is not happening I'm officially pushing the rest of the schedule back by a day so this will now be finishing on the 1st of January. I will endeavour for this to be the only push back.
December 27, 201212 yr Author ONLY #68?! Don't be ungrateful. Die. This countdown has finally gotten into the 'chart hits Umi actually bothered with' section, thank God! :D It's all good, really. Well except fun. and The Script but nobody's perfect. Not many non-chart hits to go now. #mainstreamwhore
December 27, 201212 yr Yay FOR Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and Sub Focus but not happy to see Bieber
December 28, 201212 yr Author / \ 63 :: MADEON :: "ICARUS" / \ 30-23-17-16-9-14-25-x XHs99iVpnXU There are lots of songs on here which I like mainly because of their instrumental, but this is one of only 2 actual full-on instrumentals in my EOY (mainstream whore note: the same 2 instrumentals that were top 40 hits this year). It's hard to believe that Madeon is just 18 years old when listening to this. A superbly crafted dance song from a very promising talent. France's next big thing after Daft Punk and David Guetta? Another song to come from Madeon on this list, although not another instrumental. / \ 62 :: UTAH SAINTS VS. DRUMSOUND & BASSLINE SMITH :: "WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR ME" / \ 17-9-16-12-11-13-25-x 9CjHKPKgZ7Y Utah Saints remixed their 1992 hit 'Something Good' to great effect in 2008, returning it to the UK top 10. They tried the same trick a second time this year enlisting Drumsound & Bassline Smith for this remix of their 1991 debut single 'What Can You Do For Me'. It wasn't quite as successful but I think this is musically a lot better than the 2008 remix of 'Something Good'. Incredibly energetic. I actually prefer this to most of Drumsound & Bassline Smith's own work (their single 'Through The Night' just missed out on its own placing in this top 100). Probably helps that I love the original Utah Saints track as well though. / \ 61 :: WILEY :: "HEATWAVE" (FEAT. MS D) / \ 14-10-2-2-2-4-6-15-15-29-37-x qimiWfZAtXw I neglected to comment earlier how #71-73 were all UK #1 hits. This is the fourth UK #1 to appear on the countdown and there are a further eleven of them to come, so in all 15 out of 36 2012 UK #1s appear on my end of year top 100 in a very strong year for #1s. In the UK this beat Calvin Harris feat. Example's 'We'll Be Coming Back' to #1 in one of the year's best (and also highest selling) top 2s. I realise I'm probably alone in declaring that one of the year's best top 2s. On my chart it was the opposite, as Calvin and Example held this off #1 for not one but three weeks. Wiley mostly sticks to his underground-y grime-y thing which is all good but when he does decide to go mainstream for a single or two he does it very well. 'Heatwave' is quite a simple song with only a couple of verses and a chorus consisting of one line repeated over and over, but it somehow doesn't feel too repetitive and it's just a great summer dance-rap tune. The follow-up was more of the same but actually even better for me and is still to come on here.
December 28, 201212 yr Author / \ 60 :: THE XX :: "ANGELS" / \ 27-x(3)-19-x(3)-23-20-20-21-22-28-x _nW5AF0m9Zw This never got very high in my chart, but it had the longevity to make up for it. The first single from The xx's second album 'Coexist', this song is just really pleasant to listen to. That doesn't sound like high praise I know, but I don't know how else to describe it. It would have been better if Oliver shared the vocals like he did on the singles from their first album - the contrast between female and male vocals was part of what made me love The xx to begin with. Nonetheless. Still a very good song. / \ 59 :: SEBASTIAN INGROSSO AND ALESSO :: "CALLING (LOSE MY MIND)" (FEAT. RYAN TEDDER) / \ 30-11-8-11-15-x 9G1I16gJBvU Considering how much I adore all six of the singles Swedish House Mafia released in their short time as a unit, I feel like I should love their individual output more than I do. This song from Sebastian Ingrosso is my favourite SHM-related track besides those 6 singles, but there's still something missing that just doesn't make it as great as his collaborations with Axwell and Steve Angello. Maybe it's Alesso's fault. Ryan Tedder's vocals, tacked on for the single release of another song that was originally an instrumental, improve it significantly, adding a bit of an 'epic' feel to it. I first heard this song in BJSC but it didn't click with me at all until it was released as a single. I hope there's better to come from the SHM members. / \ 58 :: DJ FRESH :: "HOT RIGHT NOW" (FEAT. RITA ORA) / \ 16-14-9-7-13-14-23-27-x N7OPZOBJZyI Despite Rita Ora being a terrible person etc. a full 50% of her singles have made my top 60, with 'How We Do (Party)' also making my longlist for a top 100 nod. 'Shine Ya Light' was just so :manson: that it completely skewed Rita into awful territory. Anyway, this song was released when Rita was a complete unknown and went to #1 in the UK more on the name of DJ Fresh (coming off the back of his previous #1 single 'Louder' feat. Sian Evans). I could never get into 'Louder' and still resent it being the first dubstep-flavoured UK #1 but I was fully behind this being the first drum n bass #1. DJ Fresh is a lot better at drum n bass than dubstep. Rita's vocals really suit instrumentals like this and it's disappointing that she didn't do any songs like this for her album (or did she? I haven't exactly listened to it).
December 28, 201212 yr Hot Right Now  Such a summery track, Calling is also amazing and has everything I love in a song in it but yet I barely listened to it (weird!) and unheard Angels.

December 28, 201212 yr Was kinda waiting for the top end of the chart before I started commenting but got a feeling that interest from this end is gonna start WANING. too many good ones in the bottom half to comment and obv super pleased at a bit of N DNTN recognition yep. December 28, 201212 yr Author / \ 57 :: KIDNAP KID :: "VEHL" / \ 19-21-10-14-8-27-x fXsEtwF3fHA My biggest BJSC hit in 2012 (not really saying much as it only came 14th) and also my personal favourite conveniently. I'm shocked this did as well as it did, it is an extremely niche song, almost entirely instrumental save from the occasional appearance of some whispery French phrases. Seemed to just do really well with the 'indie' contingent but not so well outside that group. Kidnap Kid is from Black Butter Records which seems to be a reliable label for great unknown dancey songs, though they also launched Rudimental who are far from unknown these days. Brilliant video for this as well, quite dark and foreboding which suits the song very well. / \ 56 :: D'BANJ :: "OLIVER TWIST" / \ 17-25-29-23-15-7-13-22-26-29-x CQP-etYU1ps And now something completely different, the insanely catchy 'Oliver Twist' from Nigerian Afrobeat 'star' D'banj. It's slightly difficult to understand what he's saying what with his accent, I almost wish I never bothered looking up the lyrics because there are some rather questionable ones in there which I will not repeat. It's not immediately obvious what Oliver Twist has to do with any of the rest of the song but according to the good people at rapgenius.com it represents him always wanting more (as in women, not gruel). The best part of the song aside from the infectious instrumental is the last section where he descends to repeating 'shake ya bum bum' over and over for what feels like years. So ridiculous it's amazing. I'm so glad this song exists. / \ 55 :: COLDPLAY :: "HURTS LIKE HEAVEN" / \ 6-10-18-x(50)-35-27-25-28-27-35-x C8KV0mzqTXY This song peaked on my chart way back when the album was released just from thinking it was an album highlight, it's included here due to being released as a single in 2012 blah blah. It didn't really feel like a proper single release (maybe just because it never charted but eh) but it did re-enter my chart due to starting to hear it on the radio and whatnot, though it got nowhere near its original peak of #6. It works better as a (brilliant) opening to their album than as a single, so I wasn't really sure where to put this on this list but as you can see I eventually decided around midtable would be appropriate. Their two 'proper' singles from 2012 are both still to come so keep tuned for more Coldplay.

December 28, 201212 yr Alesso is decent, I also charted 'Years' from him for a week or two. Yet to be really impressed by anything of his besides 'Calling (Lose My Mind)' though. Yeah I think I'm just blinded by my love for electronic dance music  Alesso hasn't scored any massive hits with me other than Calling, but Years and Clash have been minor hits for me. His remix of Keane "Silenced By The Night" is one of his best songs for me, despite me never having charted it. Much better than the original ;)
