2 Florence + The Machine - Spectrum

Peaked: #1 (2wks)

Must have came a bit of a surprise to some when the track hit #1 in the official chart and spent 3 weeks at the top of the tree. Florence has had numerous #1s in my personal chart, this track is probably her best hit to date with the help of Calvin Harris tweaking the track. Its catchy and very infectious and ticked all the boxes to become a big hit of 2012.

1 Gotye feat Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know

Peaked: #1 (7wks)

Biggest hit of the year and my favourite track of the year, amassed 7 weeks at #1. I would consider this as something different to what I normally listen to, the vocals got a touch of Sting and Peter Gabirel. Probably everyone would have gathered by now this is my favourite track, gives credit to Chris/Hitstastic who first sounded the track off on BJSC, took a while to strike a chord with me, the track became a grower and remains my favourite track of 2012.

There you have it, Jesse J missed out on the top 40 hit with Domino by a whisker, other tracks that failed to make my personal top 40 of the year come from Maroon 5 - Payphone and another Jessie J track Laserlight, Nicki Minaj - Starships, but the latter got on my wick after played to death also in that category Psy.

12 Lana Del Rey - Born To Lie

Peaked: 1

Ain't it Born to die Martin

Easy to make mistake, I always do it, everytime I type it, I use a L instead of D, just forgot to correct it

I've heard barely any of 11-20! :o

These are all good tracks Martin:

13 CHVRCHES – Lies - not sure why I've never listened to this, really need to.

14 Adele – Skyfall

21 Calvin Harris feat. Florence Welch – Sweet Nothing

22 Santigold – Disparate Youth

23 Labrinth feat. Emeli Sande – Beneath You Beautiful

24 Sub Focus feat. Alpines – Tidal Wave

26 Blondfire – Where The Kids Are

27 Grimes – Genesis

30 David Guetta feat. Sia – Titanium - in my top 20 of last year, still a great track

31 Little Boots – Every Night I Say A Prayer

32 Swedish House Mafia feat. John Martin – Don’t You Worry Child

36 Little Dragons – Sunshine - good to see someone else liking this.

37 Polica – Lay Your Cards Out

39 The XX – Angels

40 Marina & The Diamonds – Primadonna

Thanks Mark, Titanium sort of tailed over into the new year, and was lingering in the chart for a long time, so it deserved a placing in the year to date chart.

My favourites from your 20-11:

18 Paloma Faith - Picking Up The Pieces

16 Kylie Minogue - Timebomb

15 Owl City feat. Carly Rae Jepsen - Good Time

14 Adele - Skyfall

12 Lana Del Rey - Born To Lie

11 Emeli Sande - My Kind Of Love

:D

Thanks for commenting so far...

Great chart Martin,

I love "Laura", "Obedear" and "Little Talks" from your Top 10 so far. All Top 3 hits on my chart this year. :D

"Run Boy Run"

Not a big fan of Emeli Sande, I liked "Heaven" but that's about it... :(

Thanks Danny, not many members like Emeli Sande, I guess she is more overhyped on here

Woodkid is amazing its probably my faourite rock track of the year, its so different from the rest of the chart, sticks out like a sore thumb.

Thanks HoK, glad you like the top 2, need to get my skates on, my favourite Disney Pixar movie is on "Up"

Pixar can do NO wrong imo. My favourites are the Toy Story trilogy, but we watched Up on Christmas day as a family and it was magical as always

Not related to your chart sorry :kink:

I keep on renaming Body Work allsorts lately, in the rundown I got the title right  Closer seems reasonable to me it was slightly lower to begin with, also I released the track in the last quarter.

Alanis Morissette best chart career to date was with Jagged Little Pill album, some great tracks on there she never had a decent single hit in the British charts after that, same goes with her album catalogue. Guardian is just one of a great track, might just obtain her album in the Jan sales.

I actually loved Thank U and its parent album, although obviously it had nothing on the excellent Jagged Little Pill!

Happy New Year Martin :D

Hits approves.

01 Gotye feat. Kimbra – Somebody That I Used To Know

If someone told me a year ago that Gotye would have the UK's biggest selling single of 2012 I would've thought "I wish..." but somehow that's exactly what's happened. It's such an extraordinary song, imo, and if any song should be classed as a grower then this would be that track. It generated all its chart success for me in 2011 after entering the track in BJSC. Gotye will most likely be a genuine one hit wonder, but what a one hit wonder this is.

02 Florence + The Machine – Spectrum

Adore!!! I don't mind the original album version but it was definitely Calvin Harris who made this song so popular. A brilliant remix that really put life into this track. Even the instrumental sounds brilliant.

03 Emeli Sande – Next To Me

A few posters expected this to be a massive hit in my chart and whilst it did peak at #4, it tailed off fairly quickly. I'm still in two minds over Emeli's album. A couple of the tracks are brilliant, but a couple of others are seriously dull. :(

04 Woodkid – Run Boy Run

Bong!!! Bong!!! Bong!!! Bong!!!

That intro. *.* It's become one of the most recognisable intros since the summer of 2012. The very first time I heard this used during the London Olympics I actually became very excited. It's such a shame this song couldn't quite make the UK top 40. Still by far one of my fave tracks of 2012.

06 Morgan Page feat. Tegan & Sara – Body Work

07 Kyla La Grange – Walk Through Walls

Well, it's only right that we should see some Kylienips BJSC entries here. I voted for both these tracks. 'Bodywork' got to #3 whilst 'Walk Through Walls' made #15. Compared to 2011, your luck really turned around in 2012. Now we just need Kylienips to win BJSC. :D

09 Of Monster & Men – Little Talks

The story in short; entered into BJSC, didn't like, did well in Europe, relistened to the song, grew on me, topped my personal chart, think this track is brilliant. All in the space of 12 months!!!

10 fun feat. Janelle Monae – When We Are Young

I supposed fun. owe their success to Glee as it was their version that raise the songs profile. At least it was the genuine article that became the massive international hit, not the Glee cover (which I've not heard to be honest).

12 Lana Del Rey – Born To Die

My first chart topper of 2012 with 6 weeks at the top. Ended up 4th in my Chart of 2012 but Lana Del Rey has been by far the most successful artist in my chart over the past 12 months.

13 CHVRCHES – Lies

Depending on which is released first, I can see either 'Lies' or 'The Mother We Share' taking off quite well in the UK. CHVRCHES are one of the best groups I've discovered through BJSC in 2012.

14 Adele – Skyfall

Absolute  Adele really can't do no wrong, and whilst it was her only new material released in 2012 it's such a stunning beautiful track.

15 Owl City feat. Carly Rae Jepsen – Good Time

"it's always a good time". I'd forgotten how well this did in your chart. Just a great pop song, as simple as that.

Howdy!

Let's have a look ^_^

Those 2 tracks are favourite BJSC entries, Body Work is probably my favourite out of the 2, got 2 other fave tracks that Kylienips entered BJSC with Sky Ferriera "One", that was a ding dong battle with that track with Tom, I won in the end to enter the track came 3rd, and the other fave track has to be Lisa Mitchell "Neopolitan Dreams" which came 7th I think.

I've already got a track planned for the next BJSC, but I do have a feeling is going to get disqualfied for some reason, I guess its worth a try, if that fails, I have 3 other tracks in consideration.
