December 30, 201212 yr TAL?! Fabuleux as she may be I never would have guessed that would be my only (:snif: ) qualifer in a million years. Anyways, I think I'm going to be throwing my weight behind Frida :D
December 30, 201212 yr TAL?! Fabuleux as she may be I never would have guessed that would be my only (:snif: ) qualifer in a million years. Anyways, I think I'm going to be throwing my weight behind Frida :D These BJSC competitions have had some really strange results. Being the #1 BJSC country for 2012, I'd have expected your entries to have owned TBO. Yet despite everything you've ended up with just 2 - and the Numayania track I was championing the most didn't qualify (Asaf Avidan). :( It proves that when only a handful of posters vote compared to the actual contests where nearly 50+ are voting, it does make a huge different. The fact I won Unknown Pleasures 11 says a lot (ie; being anonymous so nobody knew what my entry was) makes me wonder how well 'Vōs-Sākō-Rv' would've done had I entered that into BJSC 50. I bet it wouldn't have come close to winning.
December 30, 201212 yr I would say the difference in the voters musical preferences would help that a little :heehee:
December 30, 201212 yr I would say the difference in the voters musical preferences would help that a little :heehee: Compared to 2011, BJSC 2012 just seemed to become two cliques (the hipsters and the vanillas) and each group just seemed to vote for each other in every contest - particularly between Aug-Dec which became more of a sigh when votes were revealed - you could almost guarantee who was voting for who before votes were revealed. This hardly happened in 2011 which just made the contest seem more genuine. I just get the impression if "Batidas" entered Lindstrøm into BJSC, those who gave me big points in UP11 would probably just dish out 1 or 2 points to me whilst giving the big points to their nearest and dearest. Maybe I've read too much into BJSC voting these last few months but at least I can say I've always given my 12 points to my fave song, not fave poster. Maybe it's all a sheer coincidence, but when it happens for 4 months in a row... :(

Maybe it's all a sheer coincidence, but when it happens for 4 months in a row... :( I do agree to this post to some extent, as a very generic pop lover I'm obviously going to vote for songs which are more "pop-like" of the spectrum. However, there can be sometimes when I do occasionally enjoy the odd indie song or two (iamamiwhoami being the main one this year). Overall, I do agree that 2011 had more of a variation. It's like ever since the third/fourth contest of 2012 onwards, any song without some sort of indie connection or appeal has no chance of winning at all. Votes for each nations are not as widescale anymore and nations do tend to vote for each other more as a result of people either following the pop votes or the indie votes. Not quite sure whether it comes down to voting for posters instead of song (I am aware that a few people do fall guilty of this in BJSC without naming names) but I can say that I only vote for songs which I truely love and my 12 pointer ALWAYS goes to my most loved song at the time.
December 30, 201212 yr Well, with the exception of Robot, who seems to change his taste to what was successful the past month (:D) all the pop posters have been sending pop in an attempt to 'bring pop back' and all of the 'indie bloc' have been sending tracks appealing to their own kind - so it's not really surprising that people have been voting for the a lot of the same people in this 'war' between the two cliques. People will always claim they are voting for their favourite songs and I do believe them, but you will also give songs from your friends and favourite nations more of a chance to grow on you, so in turn you will be more likely to give them points. If more people took chances on tracks outside their comfort zone, perhaps we'd get a more diverse range of votes (and I'm sure Lindstrom would have smashed BJSC really Hits, maybe not won but up there with the best). I'm definitely going to try for 2013 to take as many risks as I can and not just send female electropop all the time because that gets boring month after month. I swear nations like Bellamia have just been sending the same song over and over again and not getting why it failed. Plus not EVERY entry has to be either the coolest new thing from Pitchfork or the latest dance-pop craze. I'd love to see more entries than there currently are going against the norm, power ballads, rock anthems, rap tracks, etc. If it's good, it should appeal to at least some people here.
December 30, 201212 yr It is (or how it used to be :kink: ) like with Rontvia. People giving certain countries' songs more chances to grow on you before dismissing them. God knows I disliked quite a few Espen's entries in my (BJSC) lifetime.
December 30, 201212 yr Iz didn't get three 12 points in four contests from me because he's my favourite poster (that's pure coincidence), I just liked the song he sent more than the others. I don't really feel like there's much more to be read into there really (and those three weren't exactly clones of each other. 'Lovestuck' and 'Starting Fires' for example). December 30, 201212 yr Omg Dia was one point off? -_- And Paulina, Elen, Asteroid Galaxy Tour, Ailee and Karmin out too, meh :( Yessssssss for First Aid Kit, Delta and Gabrielle though

I swear nations like Bellamia have just been sending the same song over and over again and not getting why it failed. Well I suppose maybe nations like Bellamia like the sort of tracks in which they send, and thus regardless of whether it'd qualify or not, they still feel it's appropriate for them to send it for the sole reason that they're either really into the track or was previously addicted to it. More people taking chances outside their comfort zone is a good thing, only if one can find as many tracks in which they adore as well as the tracks within their comfort zone every month. Not everyone has a wide range of musical genres in which they love and sometimes, it's hard to choose something say which you'd rank out of 6-7/10 but that being freshly inspired compared to something which you love and is a 9-10/10 song, but yet is nowhere near as inspired.
December 30, 201212 yr I consider myself neither part of the hipster group nor the poplovers although I do tend to prefer the more indie-ish entries. We need more in betweeners.
December 30, 201212 yr Author Hmmm, I think the hipsters are more open to voting for something vanilla. I'm not a part of either 'clique' but I couldn't see the vanillas flocking to vote for 'Sulk', but I think a good few hipsters voted for the likes of Shy'm, who is the furthest away from hipster as you could get! There's nothing wrong with voting for fellow hipsters or vanillas, but I can see where Hits is coming from in that the votes are quite predictable, but more from the vanilla side if I'm quite honest.
December 30, 201212 yr TBH I'd definitely say I'm part of the pop-side, but that's not to say I wouldn't vote for a more indie entry, or even enter one myself if I stumbled across one.

Not always, if so then someone like me wouldn't be voting for iamamwhoami's play or Woodkid's Run Boy Run and going by my BJSC taste, I'd say I'm fairly up there on the vanilla-pop end side of the spectrum. :P

December 30, 201212 yr I often feel the inbetweeners get unfairly treated because they don't send tracks that are loved by either 'side' so it just increases the tendency to pick sides. :( But we need more of them, yes. Well I suppose maybe nations like Bellamia like the sort of tracks in which they send, and thus regardless of whether it'd qualify or not, they still feel it's appropriate for them to send it for the sole reason that they're either really into the track or was previously addicted to it. Oh of course, I find it hard to send something I'm not completely obsessed with, but if the problem is people are voting for the same people all the time then people who do not have a wide range of genres that they like are going to be part of that problem. That's not saying it's bad but that will be an obstacle. I sometimes view this contest as a way of opening me up to a load of tracks I wouldn't listen to otherwise and I've found several wonderful tracks in genres I don't often look at that I now love. More genre diversity is a good thing but only if people are open, and it doesn't always seem that way. And Oricon, Run Boy Run grew on you after the contest yes? I'm often guilty of that with some of the more hipster-ish entries, they grow on me far later so I don't send votes their way at the time. Pop people, give the indie tracks more of a chance. In fact, give them the most chance and assume you'll love them. And vice versa. I wonder if that would change the votes at all.
December 30, 201212 yr Yeah I agree, it's only to be expected that voting patterns will appear as the people who are fans of pop songs are likely to be the same group of countries each time and vice versa. Of course I more often than not vote for pop songs, but I do vote for more alternative songs now and then - Laura Welsh probably the biggest example for me! I know she's not indie, but she's not dance-pop either! :kink: I don't think it's a problem. And with the higher and higher proportion of indie countries, the pop votes are likely to be more concentrated to a smaller number of entries and that's probably why Hits has noticed it recently.
December 30, 201212 yr Which you did NOT vote for. I did NOT originally but it GREW on me so I DID in the TBO. :D
December 30, 201212 yr I did NOT originally but it GREW on me so I DID in the TBO. :D (after it charted in the UK singles chart :D ) Too bad TBO is like Junior Eurovision compared to the REAL thing. Edited December 30, 201212 yr by パーベル
