YES haha. It didn't save Love Stuck from being super bad though.

Β

I could say the same for Telepathe - Destroyer. Awesome name, awful song.

at least we know it wasn't johnkm (SO MUCH SHADE @ U.K. STILL!!)

Β

It's still a STEAMING LUMP OF SHIT 4 months on, perhaps more so.

Β

I usually do pick out songs from countries I know I like to listen to first, it seems logical, though it does also often end up meaning I get a feeling of DOOM once I move on to the rest prior to them having time to grow.

WORD

Need U isn't so far removed from pop/dance to be honest, it was on the most recent Clubland compilation

I actually thought 'Need U' was the best of all Leww's winners. It had that mental early The Prodigy sound about it.

Β

Usually in the semi finals, I listen to about a minute of each song just to get a feel of whats on offer. Then I go through the song in depth listening to each one and rate them out of 10. If there's a song I really dislike, it usually gets deleted rather quickly. :D

Β

Anyways, I didn't think my comment would create such a big discussion. It is interesting though to see others opinions. I wasn't even having a go either. It was just something I'd started to observe but there never seemed like a good time to mention it.

Indeed, which is why I was a little confused that it appealed to fans of Havana Brown, Ricki-Lee and Elen Levon, but there we go!

Actually there is a connection with me voting for Need U as well as voting for each entry mentioned above by Ghosty. A pop fan doesn't necessary just vote for pop songs and certainly I thought Need U sounded like a dance song to me for some extent, hence why I liked it and thus voted for it. :D

I know pop fans don't just vote for pop songs, I just thought there were other entries that were not voted for that would have appealed more to those pop fans than a rave track would have.

Ahh woops I misinterpreted it as to why would fans of Havana Brown, Ricki-Lee and Elen Levon be a fan of Need U.

Yeah, 'Need U' is the most appealing to me out of Leww's 3 winners due to that dance feel it has! However, it still wasn't appealing enough for me to give it points in the contest but I did give it a couple of points in the WYRMT? semis. :D

Β

Regarding Hendinia, I'm probably the country that has given him the most points over the whole year - I think I've given him about 3 sets of 12 points over the year. But when he went for entries that didn't appeal to me such as Blood Diamonds and even the more pop Smith & Thell, I didn't give him any points if I remember rightly.

Exactly. I have given Hendinia multiple points this year but as soon as he went over to indie with Phone Sex and the other one, he got 0s from me so its another indicator that my votes are not poster based.
Moreover, why would anyone vote for Robot the poster? I heard he's a total bitch to everyone or something :o

You heard wrong, I'm an angel!

Β

Seriously though, I think we're crossing over points now, aren't we? We had people criticising that pop fans didn't diversify their votes and were the worst for doing it - but now it's dodgy that a pop fan should vote for something that isn't pop with 'Need U'?! Besides, it's BY FAR the most pop/dance-friendly of the Aeroche winners anyway.

FINALLY THOUGH, Yu, are we really calling The Mother We Share indie?

is it only me who listens to a song first sometimes coz the name of the artist / song is cool??? i get INTRIGUED

YES. I also judge the quality of a song based on its title and artist name. I mean if a track is called something as generic as "Call My Name (Tonight)" or sounds as campy as "(You Make The) Girls Go Wild" then I've already started casting it off, I'm afraid (I'm more than happy for my doubts to be proven wrong though!). And if it's coupled with an artist name as boring and un-telling as "Jessica Lowndes" or "Sharon Doorson" then it's in a lot of trouble before I've even listened to the track. For the record, I voted for Sharon Doorson and it goes without saying that it's not the be all and end all.

Β

Yes, for my ears.

Gosh, I only used Hendinia as an example, there's all sorts of voting trends going on between loads of participants. It's just interesting to note - it's not an accusation by any means. I don't really understand why everyone's jumping to defend themselves when they haven't done anything wrong, I can read the scoreboards  .

Β

All I'm saying is there might be an ulterior motive to a very small minority of these trends and that it's being monitored. There won't be any sort of "crackdown", that has been totally blown out of proportion and was addressed purely because it was mentioned earlier in the thread.

Β

I'm also not saying that a pop fan voting for Need U is definitely "dodgy", it's just something I personally would not have expected to happen but it is very possible that it could happen. That was something that intrigued me on a personal level and not something that is of concern to the contest as a whole or how it is or will continue to be run.
