Chart of 2012

It's time to jump onto the bandwagon that is counting down my favourite tracks from the last 12 months. Which track from 2012 is going to join this rather fine list of previous end of year #1 hits:

2004 = Green Day - American Idiot
2005 = Madonna - Hung Up
2006 = Scissor Sisters - I Don't Feel Like Dancin'
2007 = Robyn with Kleerup - With Every Heartbeat
2008 = The Killers - Human
2009 = Lady GaGa - Poker Face
2010 = Eminem featuring Rihanna - Love The Way You Lie
2011 = Rihanna featuring Calvin Harris - We Found Love

Before we commence, here's a look back at the tracks that made it all the way to #1 in my chart throughout 2012:

Lana Del Rey - Born To Die (6 weeks) (07/01/12 = 11/02/12)
Studio Killers - Ode To The Bouncer (2 weeks) (18/02/12 = 25/02/12)

Emma Hewitt - Colours (3 weeks) (31/03/12 = 14/04/12)
Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe (1 week) (21/04/12)
fun. featuring Janelle Monáe - We Are Young (5 weeks) (28/04/12 = 26/05/12)

Kimbra featuring Mark Foster & A-Trak - Warrior (3 weeks) (09/06/12 = 23/06/12)
Woodkid - Run Boy Run (2 weeks) (30/06/12 = 07/07/12)
Florence & The Machine - Spectrum (Calvin Harris Remix) (5 weeks) (14/07/12 = 11/08/12)
Of Monsters And Men - Little Talks (2 weeks) (18/08/12 = 25/08/12)
Little Mix - Wings (2 weeks) (01/09/12 = 08/09/12)
Lana Del Rey - Summertime Sadness (1 week) (15/09/12)
PSY - Gangnam Style (강남스타일) (3 weeks) (22/09/12 = 06/10/12)
Adele - Skyfall (3 weeks) (13/10/12 = 27/10/12)
Still Corners - Fireflies (2 weeks) (03/11/12 = 10/11/12)
Little Mix - DNA (2 weeks) (17/11/12 = 24/11/12)
Gabrielle Aplin - Please Don’t Say You Love Me (1 week) (01/12/12)
Pink - Try (1 week) (08/12/12)
Röyksopp featuring Susanne Sundfør - Running To The Sea (3 weeks) (15/12/12 = 29/12/12)

Feel free to start speculating what the outcome might be. Who do you think will be my #1 of 2012? Who would you like to see at #1? :P

I shall be back shortly to kick off proceedings... :w00t:

Oh, you're not going to beat MY countdown. :D
Bar Warrior and Fireflies, that is a really strong set of #1 songs! :wub: No idea what's going to be at #1 though!
Oh, you're not going to beat MY countdown. :D

How very rude.

I have a horrible feeling that Loreen will triumph here, something that will make me most sad as you've had some really great #1s this year.

Before we start counting down the top 40 of 2012, here's a look at the ten songs that just missed out:

41-50

41. Swiss Lips - Danz [#3]

42. Fibes, Oh Fibes! Feat. Icona Pop - Cerahtonia (Version) [#2]

43. Jessie J - Domino [#3]

44. Lana Del Rey - National Anthem [#3]

45. Oceana - Endless Summer [#3]

46. Emeli Sandé - Next To Me [#4]

47. Michel Teló - Ai Se Eu Te Pego! [#6]

48. VNV Nation - Nova [#2]

49. Pink - Blow Me (One Last Kiss) [#3]

50. Goodwill & Hook N' Sling - Take You Higher [#3]

BJSC had quite an impact on my chart in 2011 but how much more will BJSC impact my Chart of 2012? :D

Tom Kay rejoices as his final BJSC entry from 2011 kicks off the top 40 here having entered the chart at #3 right back in January. Anyone who partakes in BJSC will know that Numayania was the most successful BJSC country in 2012. How many of Tom Kay's entries have made the grade here?

http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa129/Hitstastic/2012/jlo-danceagain.jpg 39. Jennifer Lopez feat. Pitbull - Dance Again [#2]

After the massive success of 'On The Floor' in 2011, Jennifer Lopez returned earlier this year with 'Dance Again'. It didn't exactly set the UK charts on fire peaking at #11 but was a reasonably successful single in other countries.

When Isconia entered Lana Del Rey's 'Video Games' into BJSC in 2011, it struck an instant chord with me and it became my favourite discovery from the whole of 2011. Seeing the track make #9 in the UK provided a :D moment. Safe to say, Lana has become one of my most successful artists over the last 12 months with two more #1 singles along the way. 'Ride' was the first track taken the reissued 'Born To Die' album but couldn't make it all the way to #1 in my chart. Nonetheless, it's been a very successful year for Lana in my chart and it's left to be seen if this level of success can continue in 2013.

Thanks to its use in Microsoft's TV advertisement for Internet Explorer 9, Alex Clare had one of the most successful singles around the world with 'Too Close'. Seeing the track finally crack the US top 10 so late in the year was quite bizarre considering it was the US that made this song successful in the first place. The track made it all the way to #2 in my chart back in April.

Ever since the release of 'When Love Takes Over' in 2009, David Guetta has become an unstoppable force over the last few years. Back in February 'Titanium' became a UK #1 (a genuine :D moment) but it had already been a massive hit for me in 2011. However, Guetta teamed up with Sia for a new track. 'She Wolf (Falling To Pieces)' isn't quite at the same standard for me but still a decent track.

The phrase "end on a high note" couldn't be more apt for Swedish House Mafia who, after 3 years together, decided to split up and concentrate on their individual careers. 'Don't You Worry Child' became their most successful single and is on the verge of cracking the US top 10 (it was #11 last week iirc). 'Greyhound' also did well in my chart but ended up in 52nd place for 2012.

Utopia (a.k.a. RabbitFurCoat) is responsible for this track making its appearance here so kudos to Mark. :D Entered into BJSC, Reverend & The Makers had only scored one previous top 10 for me when 'Heavyweight Champion Of The World' peaked at #2 way back in 2007. However, they scored another big hit with 'Bassline' and like Mark said in his commentry, it's the "bassline" that really makes this song.

http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa129/Hitstastic/2012/lanadelrey-bluejeans.jpg 33. Lana Del Rey - Blue Jeans [#2]

It's Lana Del Rey again, her second appearance in my Chart of 2012. Having already been released as part of the EP with 'Video Games', releasing 'Blue Jeans' as a single in its own right was a daft idea purely because anyone who wanted this song would've most likely already downloaded the 'Video Games EP'. In the end 'Blue Jeans' had to make do with a #32 peak in the UK whilst here the track soared to #2. It was very close to topping my chart but BJSC had other ideas...

http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa129/Hitstastic/2012/florida-wildones.jpg 32. Flo Rida feat. Sia - Wild Ones [#3]

Prior to 2012, Flo Rida's success in my chart had been relatively minimal. His most successful single had been 'Right Round' in 2009. Since the release of 'Good Feeling' in late 2011, Flo Rida's success rate went sky high as he managed to score 4 UK top 10 hits consecutively. His biggest hit in my chart to date finishes 32nd in my Chart of 2012. Maybe it's the addition of Sia on vocals but 'Wild Ones' remains my fave Flo Rida track. Knowing 'Wild Ones' was a bigger selling single in the UK than 'Whistle' also provides a :D moment.

...and to conclude this first session of my Chart of 2012 it's...

http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa129/Hitstastic/2012/foxes-youth.jpg 31. Foxes - Youth [#3]

I fully expect to see Dandy* posting his absolute delight at seeing his worthy BJSC winning track featured here. Foxes' success in BJSC didn't exactly translate into any form of chart success but like Charli XCX there's still a glimmer of hope that they could get their big breakthrough in 2013.

It's time for me to take a break but I'll return to continue my Chart of 2012 later.

Much love for Don't You Worry Child & Too Close, only one I dislike so far is Dance Again - found that a poor rehash of On The Floor with not nearly enough effect. I look forward to seeing what your number 1 is and what BJSC tracks feature highly :o
So much BJSC influence, glad to see that Flares and Fireflies must be still to come!

I did like 'Dance Again' when the track first premiered. By the time I came to chart it, it had worn off on me slightly so it wasn't even a close contender for #1.

So much BJSC influence, glad to see that Flares and Fireflies must be still to come!

Just like 2011 then!!! :lol: They sure are, but where will they appear? *.*

** RECAP - 31-40 **

31. Foxes - Youth

32. Flo Rida feat. Sia - Wild Ones

33. Lana Del Rey - Blue Jeans

34. Reverend & The Makers - Bassline

35. Swedish House Mafia feat. John Martin - Don't You Worry Child

36. David Guetta feat. Sia - She Wolf (Falling To Pieces)

37. Alex Clare - Too Close

38. Lana Del Rey - Ride

39. Jennifer Lopez feat. Pitbull - Dance Again

40. Cazzi Opeia - My Heart In 2

Kicking off the next batch of tracks it's...

http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa129/Hitstastic/2012/fun-somenights.jpg 30. fun. Some Nights [#2]

Following their massive international worldwide hit (I wonder what that could be!!! :D ) are fun. who reached no. 2 with 'Some Nights'. For a while it seemed fun. were destined to become one hit wonders as 'Some Nights' seemed to take ages before it took off. In the end this track managed to peak at #7 in the UK. I'm not sure whether there will be a Best International Breakthrough awards at The Brit Awards 2013 but if there is, fun. could well be in contention for the award.

GD smiling right about now as the first of my #1s of 2012 makes it appearance in the Chart of 2012. In actual fact, this hasn't suffered due to entering my chart late on in the year, it just happened to tail off quite quickly in my chart. However, for 2 weeks in November this was my favourite discovery from the previous BJSC contest. 'Fireflies' is the first of six BJSC discoveries that went on to become chart toppers for me.
