01. N DNTN // Autre Ne Veut – Counting

LI // 02nd - 12pts

Well there was never any doubt about this. I don't think i've ever quite explained just WHY the song has such a connection with me, so i'll try my best now.

It's rare that a song like this comes around (there's probably a grand total of TWO others that mean as much to me), but in a year with so much turmoil and strife, 'Counting' became more than just music and almost acted as a healer for me. A song so painfully beautiful that i very rarely make it to the end without at least a lump in my throat, and coupled with the accompanying music video and the history that the song now bears with it for me, i can't see that changing any time soon. The album as a whole is an exploration in everything that hurts in life and again it all acted as a means of getting me through so much bad stuff, mainly because it made me realise that others shared the same anxieties. This track in particular encapsulates so much pain into it, with hints of positivity and light that have me going back to it whenever i get the chance because it strangely makes me feel like i'm not alone. Was very blessed to enter at the time i did as i luckily joined straight into what has since become my favourite contest of the ten this year and of course it gave me my number one song. It wasn't quite able to reign supreme for everyone else, and as the silver medal followed N DNTN throughout the year, i thought it only fair to give him some gold here.

From the painful cries for help that open the song, to the painstaking chants and vocals that all culminate into that special, special chorus the song remains leaps and bounds above everything else this year for so many reasons. Musically and personally the song is my #1. I can only thank Chris for sharing it.

And there you have it *.* I doubt anything will come close to matching this in the new year, but i'm willing to be proven wrong (so get searching). And a final massive thanks to everyone for sending all of these beauties as well as the other 500 hundred that i couldn't chart here <3

Very good end to the countdown Bal! Plenty of stuff I'm not really a fan of here (which also explains why there's none of mine here oops) but amongst all of that, there's a fantastic winner, Chris's best entry by miles.
absolutely wonderful list, and amazing #01 - especially cos i know how much it means to you! and also just wanna throw out a congrats to scoring such a successful début year and that the new one is even more successful! i am still eternally jealous at the style this thread oozes constantly. aaaaand thats me.
Largely great list here and gotta appreciate being in the top 10 twice (:kink:) And srsly the love would be so much less unrequited if Miguel and T.H.I.E.F.S had Qed, I'm pretty sure both would have been top 3 contenders in my votes. Please let 2014 get it right with the D'yermak'er DNQs (<_<)
02. Skall // Postiljonen - Supreme

LIV // 01st - 10pts

Still so hopelessly in love <3

So while Jai struggled to get past the semis, it wasn't all bad because Skall were preparing for an almighty onslaught on our ears with the feel-good track of 2013 and the song that defined the summer for me. Not only did the supreme sounds offered here bring light all round, but the subsequent album that followed was on repeat throughout the summer and has since became one of those special collections that i could listen to no matter what the mood. A very very worthy winner back in May helped with 10 juicy points from myself (Espen's 'Beautiful Lies' took the maximum) and a song that still manages to breathe much-needed life whenever i hear it (including into this rather DRAB top 5). A gloriously cheery sound that just flows between your ears and a sensational instrumental, this could easily have been the big winner had things not continually taken turns towards the dark this year...

Oh it did appear! :D :D I'm kinda disappointed this didn't turn into the next Midnight City like I thought it would, but at least it smashed Buzzjack!

I ADORE. I didn't give it ANY points in the contest, I seriously don't know what I was on as it'd now certainly be in my own top five of the year (alongside two of your entries WHOO).

Still living for the fact that it samples Bette Davis too <3

I've listened to Supreme nearly 100 times but I actually don't know who you're talking about and Google doesn't either oops... what's the track sampled?! Glad you changed your mind!

Don't even wanna know what exactly you're referring to considering what the song's lyrics are! :(

Wonderful wonderful list <3

Bette Davis is a film star from Hollywood's Golden Age and the spoken word bit (2:21-2:45) is some of her in Jezebel. Took me ages to even notice and then longer to remember where I knew the words from... I think that's when it really clicked with me, weirdly enough!

'Counting' never quite got me, but I definitely identify with finding solace through music and your description makes me sad and happy all at once, Bal. Super countdown.

Wonderful winner, Counting really manages haunting, epic and gorgeous at the same time. Really great list for the most part, some of these would be in mine too (which may or may not be revealed in some form at some point  )

Got a place to stay?

The opening contest of 2014 starts with an orgasmic BANG as Anna Lunoe storms the scene leaving everyone breathless by the backdoors. Defying expectations (for once), and setting up a healthy points total with honerable mentions to new alliances Yehesi and Danaelanda for the 12s <3 Anna managed to sneak 'maker into the top 5. And WHAT a top 5 it was. Wonderful start to the year.

She really can't breathe *.*

omg that image bal you naughtyyyy

Congrats on another great result, I like to think my 1 point was instrumental ~x

picking up where you left off then

I retract this post. Really rather quite slightly kinda like 'Breathe' now. Though sometimes I listen to it and get bored still. But when it's sounding good it sounds v good ~

Sorry about the whole coming 11th thing but on balance 'This Song' was better and I do not regret that decision. Yay for you taking an actually good song into the top 5 ^_^

I forbid you to leave this room

Back to usual proceedings, being overly predicted but not quite managing to live up to the hype. It was a more realistic and deserved position of 20th for Steed Lord in the colourful final, as the song has since withered very slightly for the Haus and is new contender for least favourite entry entered to date. We promise to pull back the curtain and put on a show-stopping performance for next month now.

...still in love with you.
