February 24, 201312 yr I'm a bit shocked that Different Class didn't win by a huge margin. Pleasantly shocked.
February 24, 201312 yr Author Singles results 10 of us voted for the singles (I let Tom K vote today as I had already revealed the albums) So, who ended up where? 20. The Trees (66 points) HIGHEST: Jester (9) LOWEST: Brett-Butler, Tom K (4) http://www.chartstats.com/images/artwork/18546.jpg Personal opinion: As the highest voter for this, you can tell I love it. I think it by far their best song after This Is Hardcore, though the relative flop seems to make me think I am alone :( Wiki: "Sunrise / The Trees" is a double A-sided single by British rock band Pulp, from their 2001 album We Love Life. It was released 8 October 2001 ahead of the album, charting at #23 in the UK Singles Chart. "Sunrise" is also used in the award winning BBC animated satirical comedy sketch show Monkey Dust. The instrumental parts in the song bear a strong resemblance to the Lou Reed song "Set the Twilight Reeling", from the album of the same name. The Fat Truckers remix of "Sunrise" is notable for removing the instrumentation from the original recording and using loops and quick-cuts of Jarvis Cocker sighing and breathing heavily to replace it. nArZkellNyk
February 24, 201312 yr Author =18. My Legendary Girlfriend (71 points) HIGHEST: Suedehead2, titty (10) LOWEST: Gezza (2) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/8/87/My_legendary_girlfriend.jpg/220px-My_legendary_girlfriend.jpg Personal opinion: I have always loved how pervy Jarvis sounds on this - it is the precursor to songs like I Spy and parts of This Is Hardcore. The oldest song on the countdown (1991) and it still sounds great. Wiki: "My Legendary Girlfriend" is the first single from the album Separations by British band Pulp. The single was first released in 1991 on 12" vinyl and then in 1996 on CD featuring the original track-listing. "Is This House?" and "This House Is Condemned" were remixed by Parrot (Richard Barratt) and Winston (Winston Hazel). There is a 7" vinyl limited edition of 500 copies version of the single released in 1992 on Bob Stanley's label Caff Records. The new A-side "My Legendary Girlfriend" was taken from 11th September 1991 live BBC soundcheck. "Sickly Grin" and "Back in L.A." are 1982 and 1984 demos accordingly. wuoeenK4RVM --------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------- =18. Bad Cover Version (71 points) HIGHEST: Tom K (9) LOWEST: Grebo (4) http://eil.com/Gallery/502079b.jpg Personal opinion: Never liked this. Disappointingly average. Wiki: "Bad Cover Version" is a song by British rock band Pulp, from their 2001 album We Love Life. It was released 15 April 2002 as the second single from the album, charting at #27 in the UK Singles Chart (see 2002 in British music). It was the band's last single before their eight-year hiatus, which ended in 2011. CD1's B-sides appear as bonus tracks on the US release of We Love Life. The B-sides to CD2 are cover versions of Pulp songs performed by other artists. _j-VrJKp9Cc
February 24, 201312 yr Can't say I'm overly enamoured with it HOWEVER it doesn't deserve to be at the bottom! :(

Sunrise (72 points) HIGHEST: titty, richie (8) LOWEST: Gezza (4) http://991.com/newGallery/Pulp-Sunrise--The-Tree-482881.jpg Personal opinion: Well, its not as good as the other half of the AA side, The Trees, but its not bad. Hardly classic Pulp, but inoffensive. Wiki: "Sunrise / The Trees" is a double A-sided single by British rock band Pulp, from their 2001 album We Love Life. February 24, 201312 yr Author =15. Help The Aged (74 points) HIGHEST: Jester, titty (8) LOWEST: AnthonyT (5) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/1c/Pulp_Help_the_Aged.jpg Personal opinion: Well, Pulp's last top 10 hit and a bit of a shocker how low this here. I was very disappointed by this at the time (follow up Different Class with this?!) but it is quite enduring actually and I am rather fond of it now. The chorus has always been great. Wiki: "Help the Aged" is a song by British alternative rock band Pulp, and was released on 10 November 1997 as the lead single from their 1998 album This Is Hardcore. The single charted at #8 in the UK Singles Chart (see 1997 in British music), becoming the band's fifth consecutive top ten single. B-side "Tomorrow Never Lies" was intended to be used as the theme to the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies. The song was ultimately rejected in favour of a song by Sheryl Crow, and was renamed after the film's working title. The original version of the song, with the name "Tomorrow Never Dies," finally surfaced on the bonus disc of the This Is Hardcore special edition in 2006. During Da Ali G Show, Jarvis Cocker performed the song, which soon transitioned into a distinctly more urban take on things, added by Ali G, with lines such as, "Help the motherf***in' aged".The song's video features a young Kelly Brook (then aged 17); she is briefly seen on at least two occasions partaking in a slow dance. _bZjKC0EaY0 ---------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ =15. Countdown (74 points) HIGHEST: titty (10) LOWEST: Gezza (4) http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gNYso7R9oJk/TjjwbWEJJjI/AAAAAAAABoA/gMlYJLbAPSI/s1600/pulpc.jpg Personal opinion: Another great slice of early Pulp, this is all about sex. Shocker  It reminds me of the Dandy* favourite Pink Glove. I am slightly surprised how high this is over some singles here, but its a nice surprise. Wiki: "Countdown" is the second and final single from the album Separations by British band Pulp. The song was re-recorded for the single release. The CD single cover stated the same track listing as 12" single but in fact the tracks were reversed. 4GjBFDFln90

After You (77 points) HIGHEST: Suedehead2 (10) LOWEST: Gezza (3) http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aC3do4IqMvo/UQLBgIBJ8UI/AAAAAAAAGX4/_SeT702LZMU/s640/artworks-000036923302-o6er9b-t500x500.jpg Personal opinion: What a wonderful comeback. I was so worried when I heard they were doing a new song, but it still sounds like Pulp, but updated. It flopped of course :( QZX1Is-T8e0 ---------------------------------------- --------------------------- 13. Party Hard (78 points) HIGHEST: Grebo (10) LOWEST: AnthonyT, Brett-Butler (5) http://www.iconic-culture.com/catalog/party%20hard%20cd.jpg Personal opinion: This is more like it! A nice little upbeat number form This Is Hardcore. Wiki: "Party Hard" is a song by British alternative rock band Pulp. The song was released on 7 September 1998 as the fourth and final single from the album This Is Hardcore, charting at #29 in the UK Singles Chart (see 1998 in British music). This song is marked by Jarvis Cocker's David Bowie-esque baritone. B-side "We Are the Boyz" was featured in the 1998 film Velvet Goldmine. KoUTlrlkSUw
February 24, 201312 yr Can't say I'm sad to see any of these go yet- glad TIH made it this far I feared for it and it is rather stupendous in a non-immediate way.

Something Changed (80 points) HIGHEST: titty (10) LOWEST: richie, AnthonyT, Brett-Butler (6) http://991.com/NewGallery/Pulp-Something-Changed-82746.jpg Personal opinion: A slightly odd choice for a 4th Different Class single imo (I would have gone for Pencil Skirt), but the sweeping violins are nice and all that. the B-side, Mile End (from Trainspotting) is much better! Wiki: "Something Changed" is the fourth and final single taken from the album Different Class by British pop band Pulp, released in 1996 with two different sleeves (a "boy" and "girl" version), but with identical tracklistings. It is also their fourth consecutive top ten single, peaking at #10 in the UK Singles Chart. The song was included on the compilation Hits released in 2002. The B-side, "Mile End" appeared on the Trainspotting soundtrack album. uvpEOFy8oQg ----------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- =11. O.U. It has such an odd yet Pulp sound to it and is typical of the early 90s sound. So pleased this is nearly in our top 10! Wiki: "O.U. (Gone, Gone)" is a single released by British pop band Pulp in 1992. The song was later included on the compilation album Intro – The Gift Recordings in 1993. Bg486HLBNaA
February 24, 201312 yr "Something changed" should be top 10 even though lyrically it makes no sense (How can write "this" song one day before "we" met?)
February 24, 201312 yr Damn, OU frozen out of the top 10. Shocking - easily my favourite Pulp single ever...and my least favourite is in the top 10. Shocker! Oh, and I listened to Sunrise earlier today and would definitely give it an extra point now.
February 24, 201312 yr Any top 10 predictions? 1. Common People 2. Do You Remember The First Time? 3. Babies
February 24, 201312 yr As long as babies, razzamataz and lipgloss are top 5 I'll be happy. Oh yes DYRTFT also top 5 please, though obviously Common People will be there too.
February 24, 201312 yr Author 10. A Little Soul (81 points) HIGHEST: Dandy*, Tom K (10) LOWEST: Suedehead2 (5) http://991.com/newgallery/Pulp-A-Little-Soul-234552.jpg Personal opinion: This is quite a lovely little deep song, so good to see the love for it. Wiki: "A Little Soul" is a song by British alternative rock band Pulp, from their 1998 album This Is Hardcore. It was released on 8 June 1998 as the third single from the album, charting at number twenty-two in the UK Singles Chart (see 1998 in British music). B-side "Like a Friend" was featured in the 1998 film Great Expectations, and a music video for the song was produced for US music television networks featuring footage from the film. Two versions of the song exist: the "film version" (as featured on the CD1 single at 4:33 in length) and an edited version (at 3:58 in length). The song was also used in the season 4 finale of The Venture Bros. B-side "Cocaine Socialism" surfaced as a "proper recorded version" on the 2006 deluxe edition reissue of the This Is Hardcore album. The song features near identical music but completely different lyrics to the song "Glory Days" which features on the album. CD two b-side "That Boy's Evil" features no vocals from Jarvis Cocker and was originally released as a white label vinyl by Cocker and Mackey's side project The Chocolate Layers and features spoken word samples from other media in a similar style to Black Box Recorders' "The Facts Of Life (Chocolate Layers Remix)" 3XMDfMaKDa0

February 24, 201312 yr Love "A Little Soul" very underrated in general, quite touching lyrically as well...
