It has to be the best song on Loud - maybe joint with 'Love The Way You Lie Part II' and 'Only Girl (In the World)'. Such a shame it has missed the top 10 and charting lower than the criminally overrated 'Rude Boy' - it's okay but it is definitely not one of the all-time best Rihanna songs that some people claim.

 

Hoping for top 5 positions for 'Umbrella', 'Unfaithful', 'Only Girl (In the World)' and 'We Found Love'.

At #12 is the fourth single lifted from Rihanna's third album, the MJ-sampling "Don't Stop The Music" (and to great effect, too!) (although according to Wikipedia both artists used the hook from Manu Dibango's 1972 recording "Soul Makossa". It was the second most-successful single released from the standard edition of Good Girl Gone Bad, and still ranks highly among Rihanna's best-sellers list. "Unfaithful" finishes in the unlucky 11th position, despite receiving the second most 11s of all songs! It was the second single from A Girl Like Me, and still pops up in the UK chart (most famously in 2010 when Rihanna performed the track with winner-to-be Matt Cardle on the final of The X Factor). It's a great ballad about the death of the love between Rihanna and her man after she cheated.

'Stay' craps all over 'Unfaithdull', it's not even funny. Her voice is so much more powerful and technically a lot better in 'Stay' for me. 'Unfaithful' (as good as the song is) is a bit whiny and irritating at times. So pleased the former is one of the highest ballads. Hoping for it to win, but I know it won't come anywhere near. Not surprised to see the overrated 'Only Girl (In the World)' come so high though! :drama:

'Stay' is ridiculously overrated on here. Sure, it's better than 'Diamonds', but that doesn't really say much.

'Unfaithful' as a song is leagues better than 'Stay', maybe if Rihanna recorded an up to date version the issue with the vocals would be sorted.

 

I like 'Don't Stop The Music' a lot, although at the time it was ridiculously overplayed and I've never quite enjoyed it in the same way since.

 

Absolutely disgusted at 'Diamonds' being in the top 10. :puke:

Opening up the top ten is Rihanna's 2009 comeback single from the maturer Rated R album. "Russian Roulette" initially felt like a disappointment after the months of waiting for another Rihanna pop/club song, but Buzzjack still managed to fawn over it anyway. It's not my favourite from the album (which still rates as one of my favourite from her), but it did feel like a brave choice for her at the time. It continued Rihanna's '#2 curse' in the UK, and severely underperformed in the American/worldwide charts.

I love 'Russian Roulette' :wub: So dark, so underrated.

Next up is the final Rated R single and the only official UK single of Rihanna's to miss the UK top 40: "Hard". Another of Rihanna's filth-ridden songs, lyric-wise, it was a fan favourite from the album, despite its lack of success. The song originally entered at #42 when the music channels were confused as to what the next single was, but when "Rude Boy"'s airplay picked up midweek, it leapfrogged it and left it behind. It was given a proper push in the summer of 2010, but failed to better the peak already achieved. It was a second top ten from the album in the US though.

Finishing in eight place is the first single released from Rihanna's most recent album, the stunning "Diamonds". This song shocked fans and critics upon premièring, due to the drastic style choice of the song, but that didn't hinder its success in the charts, as it became her 7th UK #1 single and 12th Billboard Hot 100 #1 single. Production-wise, the song has been compared to M83's glorious "Midnight City", although I don't see it myself. It managed to be fairly non-divisive here, despite my belief that this and "Stay" were fairly disliked by Buzzjack.

Just came here to say I am outraged that 'Fire Bomb' is only 19 and 'Unfaithful' only 11. They should be 1 and 2, and they are both as outstanding as each other I can't decide which should have taken which place.

 

May I just say for the record 'Take Care' and 'What's My Name?' are so over-rated. And before anyone says, I do actually like Drake :lol:

Hate 'Diamonds' so much it's unreal, the worst thing about it is the stupid accent.

 

Plua Rated R is full of this sort of stuff done so much better.
