1D released the pre-orders for 'LWWY' and 'OWOA(TK)' weeks before the actual song premiered (and both of them did really well despite no one having heard them), even if the actual time between premiere and release wasn't too long I would still count that as "chart-rigging" as it's still building up a lot of hype for several weeks before release.

'Little Things' is a bit of a different case though. I can't imagine they even expected that song to go to #1, it seemed like a desperate rush release to attempt to divert attention from 'Live While We're Young' underperforming. Luckily it worked out well for them. I wonder where this era would be now if they hadn't decided to release 'Little Things' and just released the album off the back of a dying 'Live While We're Young' :P

There is no way that the team promotions team behind One Direction did not plan to release Little Things when they did. I think recent history was shown in order to maximise sales it's good to release a buzz single, then a single to launch the album with. It was a massive sophomore album and they were riding off the back of being one of the first British boybands to properly crack America. I don't think Live While We're Young underperformed at all, that type of song only appeals to a certain type of people. What I don't think ANYONE was expecting, and certainly not the marketing team, was Gangnam Style and Diamonds to blow up when they did. There was no way this era was not going to big, like wise there is no way there next album won't also be big.

I dread to think what the iTunes thread would have been like when Girls Aloud and the Sugababes were around in their height...!

So it's the one feat Sean Paul that's charting? That version sucks in comparison to original.

And your name is sean-paul. AMAZING.

hahahahahahahahaha

 54. The Saturdays - What About Us (feat. Sean Paul)

They're gonna lift it, lift it higher :cheer:

'Live While We're Young' was not a 'buzz single', that sounds like the sort of thing someone like Joseph would say to justify the fact it didn't do very well. The way they moved so quickly onto a second single (literally less than 2 months between the two) seems very much to me like they wanted to forget 'Live While We're Young' happened and I don't think they'd have done it if 'Live While We're Young' had done better.

And 'Live While We're Young' was pretty much a straight clone of 'What Makes You Beautiful', it seemed like a huge hit (at the very least a 100k+ opening week) in the waiting, I don't see how you can say it didn't underperform. It was just a false start and they moved on very quickly and that was the right thing to do, the rest of the era has done much better for them.

I agree there was no way this era wasn't going to be big - however I would have said exactly the same thing about 'Live While We're Young'.

It's up one place. Slightly climbing to the #1 spot. One place at a time.

Little Things's release date was more than 2 months later though wasn't it? It got to #1 because it got cherry-picked from the album early.

I don't think their label expected it to go to #1, if they thought they were in with a chance they would've released the song on Sunday I think.

Getting #1s aren't important anyway, Justin Bieber is one of the biggest pop stars in the world and he's never had one. One Direction seem to do better with albums, especially worldwide.

Amazing. 30 Days wasn't even top 100 at 7am in the morning. What About Us is already #53 at 2am.
Avicii was also at #98 at this time the week he got to number one and ended up passing 90,000 sales. I doubt The Saturdays will get anything near that, but it's very encouraging and shows that What About Us has got a strong chance of going to number one.
Nicole didn't have an Ep though, she just went straight into the charts. The Saturdays wont drop as fast as Nicole and will gain much more momentum.
What's with the sudden release for Play Hard, I thought it was out ages ago?

It was an album track before. David Guetta has re-made the instrumental for a single release now.

The Sats for #1 please, depite not loving the Sean Paul version. I really wish they released the original one.
The Saturdays  #51

*Waits for Hurricane to have an orgasm*

No need to fake it!

Okay, I'm out

I wonder how many time will the EP stay at #1.

Imagine if they hit the #1 on iTunes and the EP is still on the #1. DOUBLE #1.
