tbh

Not my fault if they can't get their shit together. However, they obviously won't split after a Greatest Hits. Actually, I'm pretty sure we won't have one anytime soon. The only reason people want a Greatest Hits from the girls, it's because Girls Aloud had one and it did amazingly well. But the world doesn't work like that. It's not because a girlgroup can have a successful GH that another one can have one too. There's much more to that. Hype, promo, good material, etc. They are better off with a new album.

The GH album only sold 166k so far though

Hardly did very well

(EDIT OOps thought you were talking about Ten)

This not getting A-listed just confirms the fact that this was not a good single choice. I thought it sounded bland from when I first heard in on CTS. I always want success for the girls but it makes me feel a tad bit better that radio stations and the general public feel the same way as a lot of us. There's really nothing else to blame this on besides the quality of the track.

If this somehow manages to chart high and sell well I'll be ecstatic but surprised.

Indeed, I was talking about the first (I think?), the one that sold huge loads. To be honest, if The Saturdays were to release a GH, I think it would sell 166k too.

However, back on the Gentleman single discussion, I think it was pretty obvious they should have released Not Giving Up On Love instead.

Even if it charts at #10 I will be happy, but I hope it goes a tad higher
Imagine this went to #1?

I'd buy meet and greet tickets for Hurricane to meet Mollie.

I'm just praying to Jesus, Allah, Gesha and Rochelle that this goes top ten (preferably #6)

They've actually done the right thing.

Following up to 'What About Us' with 'Gentlemen' is a good move. It's the albums they need to shift, and so far the album's shaping to be quite versatile, based on what we've heard so far. That is exactly what they want the consumer to think. If they release dance track after dance-pop track, the appeal isn't as strong as conveying the sounds of the album through different genres of singles.

We've hardly heard any of their upcoming LP apart from What About Us, Gentlemen and clips of Not Giving Up On Love and Lease My Love. What if Gentlemen is the most exciting track on the album? It's too soon to jump to conclusions! Gentlemen hasn't even been released yet!

It's like when we all say that they should have released Get Ready Get Set instead of My Heart Takes Over, but honestly, I don't really see that doing much better either. At the end of the day, if the interest is there, anything will sell. For example, take The Wanted. Personally, I see them as a male version of The Saturdays. Created and put together by the same person, same template etc. Look at 'Walks Like Rihanna'.. one of the most hiddious boy-band songs i've ever come across, and since it's iTunes debut at number 2, it's slipped quite fast, and it's received really good airplay too. You can have all the airplay in the world, but if you go round acting like c**ks and releasing rubbish music people wont take notice.

I do feel like 'Gentlemen' has made people take a second look at The Saturdays because it wasn't a predictable song to come back with from What About Us.

But even those cheap LQ clips of Lease My Love and Not Giving Up On Love sound better than Gentleman. But Gentleman is definitely a good song.

I don't think it will shift albums because not enough people have heard it and the people who have will forgot about it by October.

Hmm. I think following up a #1 pop/dance hit with something quite quirky & left field (by their standards at least) may prove to be a risk which won't pay off for them, especially in terms of future album sales.

People clearly clicked with 'What About Us'. 'Gentleman' will most likely hold little appeal to the casual public who enjoyed 'WAU'. Perhaps their potential forthcoming album buyers actually want consistency in their sound, not versatility. It could be off-putting to be faced with two completely different sounding singles, to the point that it makes people uncertain which single is most reflective of the album as a whole. The Saturdays have jumped from sound to sound before now, and there's already been evidence that this doesn't work out for them. Probably a factor as to why 'Wordshaker' and 'On Your Radar' were commercial disappointments.

Obviously 'Gentleman' isn't released yet so it could surprise us, but sadly I have a feeling they've made a tactical error with this single choice. Deciding to be experimental directly after a #1 single is probably one of their biggest gambles to date! However, on some level I do admire the label for being brave, even if it turns out to be a misstep. Next week will be exciting...!

Release week are always exciting! :cheer: It just gets very sad when the single start dropping. :(

The What About Us campaign was such a good time. #1 (and the first one!) and an amazing chartrun with great sales. It was just so much fun.

I'm pretty sure that no matter where Gentleman charts in the top 10, it will be a nice week, but it would be painful to see it drop like a stone after that.

If this was happening to Not Giving Up On Love you would all be moaning that they stayed to safe and similar and no wonder they are flopping. You wanted something different, you got it.

1st, it would have never happened to Not Giving Up On Love because it's actually an extremely great song.

2nd, I NEVER WANTED SOMETHING DIFFERENT. ALL MY FAVORITE SONGS BY THEM ARE DANCE-ORIENTED.

I won't ever say it enough.

My signed physical was dispatched yesterday, a bit earlier than usual?

Mine was too. My What About Us one was also sent on the Wednesday, they normally seem to arrive on the Saturday if I remember correctly :)
