August 20, 200618 yr well when I went to school there were 9, but looks like the boffins are going to change this
August 20, 200618 yr Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto. 9 (although some say that Pluto isnt really a planet due to its erratic orbit) and there is the myserious planet X whose existance hasnt been proven.
August 22, 200618 yr how many SHOULD there be? What does that mean? Should be. Surely whatever there is, there is? I'd say when talking about planets in this solar system then it would be appropriate to include the Sun.

August 22, 200618 yr Author What does that mean? Should be. Surely whatever there is, there is? So you havent been reading the newspapers then? where all the big bods are gonna have a conference to maybe degrade pluto to just an object, identify 2003 UB313 Xena as a planet and upgrade Ceres and Charon as well http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/33/Xenaandgabrielle.jpg
August 22, 200618 yr Author I thought there were twelve now, not 9. think they are still locked in the conference, havent seen anything in the papers so far.
August 22, 200618 yr think they are still locked in the conference, havent seen anything in the papers so far. Oh right. Have they definately been discovered though?
August 22, 200618 yr 10 - Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, Uranus, Pluto and Sedna which I like to believe is a planet...please?
August 22, 200618 yr 12 including ceres, xena and charon (As a double planet system with pluto) but their are about 80 OTHER minor planets/plutonian planets out there, their just to small to be classed as an oficial planet
August 22, 200618 yr seems the scientists ought to make up their minds over what qualifies as a planet.. ill tell you one thing for nowt.... if there are 12 planets, it dont half make a mess of astrology! pmsl....

August 22, 200618 yr E-motion: The sun's a star though not a planet. Don't count that. Even when it's a sun, it's still a planet that's the thing. If you imagine the universe as lots of marbles, you wouldn't start saying that marble is not a marble because it looks a bit bigger and has other marbles going around it. There are all marbles in the analogy and they are all planets.

No but the Sun is a Star - ie. a great ball of fire! Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars etc. aren't great balls of fire like all stars are. But there are billions of stars out there, each with hundreds of planets orbitting them. There is life out there somewhere.
August 22, 200618 yr the sun has a greater mass than planets, its intary bind system=8x10 to the power of 8, the gravitational pull is strong enough to pull a black whole into its self (a black whole is just a star thats colapsed in on its self) but the suns mass is not that great for it to become a white giant, it will mearly be red giant, than a white dwarf

The goalkeeper is the sun, the other planets are the rest of the team, forwards midfield and defence. Now the goalkeeper is different, he doesn't run around the field, well only in exception situations, he can use his hands etc. Someone comes along and says how many footballers in the team. I'd say there is 11 and include the goalkeeper. Then you come along and say he's not a footballer he's a goalkeeper. ;)
