This isn't about how well you think it'll go, but about the moral aspect of it.

'Appalling'

Now I don't know much of her politics and personal views and whatnot, but making a campaign celebrating Margret Thatcher's death is disgusting. It's not as if she was pure evil (despite what people may think), she wasn't a murderer, she wasn't a child molester, she was a woman who just so happened have different ideas. Either way you look at it, she must have done a great deal of good for the country, however little or much.

Tbh, I bet half the people buying 'Ding, Dong, The Witch is Dead' are teenagers who have no idea of what Maggie did - or perhaps even who she is! - and are just going along with it because of people's claims that she was a bad person.

It was amusing at first but it's now gone to a level where it's just distasteful now.

I don't think so. This campaign started in 2007 and there is a lot of anger and bitterness surrounding Thatcher in different parts of the country.

And because I can't post it in the iTunes thread:

As much as you do not like Thatcher, I don't think you got a leg to stand on since you wasn't born when she was in office... but I do share your sentiments.

Anyhow back on topic please.

Kindly do one, it's called learning about the history of my country. :D

Are you saying it's mainly adults buying it or that the youth of today have a detailed study of Maggie's political life? :P

I think that it's mainly adults although I do think that it's become slightly distasteful now.

I find it appalling and i'm not even British , celebrating the death of Thatcher is similar to what supporters of Al Qaeda did after 9/11, nobody should celebrate someone's death... It's beyond cruel to her family, friends and supporters.... And I'm sure most of the people who downloaded this song weren't even born when she was PM... That is also another proof

why the physical CD days were better... There was no place for sick campaigns like this...

Although it may be a little cruel I think it's a good thing that it's happening.

The media is controlled my the rich and therefore we are only hearing good things about Mrs Thatcher.

When in reality she fxxked up the country, destroyed jobs, made the rich richer, snuggled up to international terrorists, didn't give a hoot about environmental issues, made massive dents in Anglo-Irish relations - the list is endless.

She was a strong woman - fair dues. That does not make her a good woman.

Only Big Mistake can use campaigns like this as an opportunity to promote CD singles. :manson:

I find it amusing/neutral because this is what the chart is all about when people look back at this Sundays chart they will know why this song appeared. The fact she was so devisive is why they have picked this song.

If its censored i will support the campaign more.

No alot of people did die because of her but thats what happens being the PM i suppose you make hard decisions!

It's pretty harmless fun really. Perhaps if people had bought more Billy Bragg and Chumbawamba records then she'd have got the message and been a little more compassionate. Perhaps not.

ISTM the only thing she really took notice of was the Poll Tax protests - not so much the riots, but the massive refusal to co-operate, wcich made the whole scheme untenable.

Ok she perhaps was a divisive figure, but what politician isn't? She's being treated like she was as bad as Hitler, this campaign and all the parties are sick and twisted.

Yeah I agree with this. Kids (and to a lesser extent people in general) seem to easily get sucked into campaigns. It will be amusing to hear it played on the chart show just because of the kind of song it is, but I find the whole campaign utterly distasteful.

I don't think people are celebrating her death just remembering how much they hated her political decisions & want to voice an opinion when we're being bombarded by rose-tinted news reports.

Everyone has their opinion, everyone has a right to hate her or what she did to many many communities.

most people are so apathetic these days, it's good that the political fire is being stoked in some way.

Amusing.

The whole "you weren't even alive when she was in power, so you don't have an opinion" is fundamentally stupid in its ignorance to the political climate and its presuming of ignorance in the people in question. Just because I'm only 19 doesn't mean I don't have a perspective on issues that happened before my time, let alone ones that are having devastating effects today. It's an argument by people trying to rewrite history in her favour and the mindless sheep that don't question them.

Rant over.

It's amusing in the same way as PJ and Duncan's revival was amusing - because the beauty of today's chart is that anything with enough public backing can make it. If you think it's in bad taste, don't buy it. Get the fuck over it and stop trying to sully something so beautifully democratic.

I wonder how much of this is a protest against the current government as well?
Amusing.

Revelling in anyone's death is hardly "trying to sully something so beautifully democratic", it's pitiful and a sad reflection of society today. As has already been said - she has family - why do you believe it is acceptable for their grief to be amplified in this way?
