-_- Why so much hate for this? Yes, it is not what a 6 year wait should deliver and yes, it's probably not the anthem it should be given the circumstances, but it's JT people, come on!!!! He is our last hope to be the King of Pop of our generation and he always delivers. This song is far from the atrocity everyone is making it out to be and I'd rather have this over any piece of musical abortion that could come off the Biebs or bloody Cody Simpson.

That's in your opinion though.

He's been away for six years and comes back with this excuse of a song. It's just not good enough. I really hope that this is a buzz single, I really do. :(

Why do people keep bringing the 6-years arguement? It's not like he had been working on the song for the past 6 freaking years.

Because he's had a lot of time to come up with new ideas, and I'm not saying that the album is going to be disappointing, but he's literally on a self-destruct mission if this is the first single.

But what if he didn't even have an intention of coming up with new ideas AT ALL until the last year / few months? *SHOCK HORROR*

Because it's a very underwhelming song no matter when it was thought up, and the fact that he had six years to do it is even more disappointing.

On further listens, I actually really like this song now! It's still a bit disappointing, but I'm sure that I would love it if I didn't have such high expectations for the song. ^_^

Your post is weirdly structured. You say you don't understand why people criticise this song, but at the same time you agree this song IS a disappointment ("not what a 6 year wait should deliver" and "not the anthem it should be")...

Anyway, I've always thought that JT was overrated. His first album was basically a pretty basic "pop" album just like Bieber would release today (ok, better than Bieber's but still, no masterpiece and pretty generic), and while the second album was a big improvement, one solid album is not enough to claim the "king of pop" title - especially since he hasn't released anything else in SO many years : I would expect the "king of pop" to be a bit more dedicated to music.

That's why I hadn't such high expectations for his comeback. I was hoping for something like "Sexyback", and this is not, but I think it's a pretty cool track. Nothing amazing and pretty much a little sister to his previous album, but interesting. It doesn't deserve to top every single Itunes chart in the world but oh well, I don't even mind and it won't last.

The whole "king of pop" is a bit biased anyway since there's not many male worldwide popstars, it's not like he has any competition on the male front. And to be realistic, he can't compete with the likes of Britney, Lady Gaga, Pink, Madonna, Kylie and all, it just shows how poor the pop scene is in terms of solo boys : you can release an album every 6 years and still compete for the crown if you're a boy, haha. I haven't spoke to someone outside of BJ that doesn't like the song, so maybe it just isn't BJ friendly  I'm loving it more and more with every listen and hearing it on the radio was really special too. I think it would have worked perfectly on FS/LS and doesn't sound like a reject track at all.

As for the King of Pop thing I think Justin's crown is safe for now especially as Cody Simpson's FOUR fans on Buzzjack don't represent the whole of the world  But it's nice he got a mention here.

One perfect album?

If there was any ever a producer that renewed the game it was Timbaland. You need to hear his stuff from the 90s right into the 00s.

I agree this isn't as good as his best work ('Oops (Oh My)', 'Pony' or 'Are You That Somebody?' among others) but this man is a legend.

Succes in the 90s and BOOM brings back Timberlake and Nelly F. in o six and on top of their game.

There's only so many times you can change the game, but I have faith that he can do it again.

I actually thought the Missy Elliott tracks from 2012 had great production. Renewing? No, but that's not really necessary.

Exactly.

One perfect career - I'd say. Except it's not perfect but was consistently at the forefront of production for nearly a decade.

In regards to the bolded bit, I'm assuming you didn't watch the "I'm Ready!" promo video? I think you should watch it as he kinda explains as to why it takes him so long to create new music and albums etc.. I can't fault him on his reasoning either.

And the "he can't compete with the likes of Britney, Lady GaGa..." line, do you mean in the long run? Or if he was to put up his comeback against their comebacks then he'd lose out sort of thing? Coz I think his performance on iTunes WW has shown that he most definitely can compete with them, especially if it was a song like 'SexyBack' or 'What Goes Around...' or 'Cry Me A River' or something and had built up some proper hype around it. This is still on top of most iTunes charts, despite getting a very under whelming reaction (quite a few people I know have said they're not liking it). I think he's the only male popstar that could actually, challenge the big, female heayweights.

Why are people trying to make it as if he'd been working on this song for 6 years?

To my eyes, when someone is really dedicated to music, it seems strange to wait 6-7 years to release new music. I mean, I know the "creative process" takes time, but not that much time, especially for "popstars". "Suit and tie" isn't the most inspired track ever, everyone agrees he didn't spend 7 years "creating" this. Even Bjork or Dido have shorter breaks.

This break was only there because he made a lot of money wih his previous album so he didn't have to rush into the next one, and he wanted to focus on other stuff such as acting. And I have to be clear, I don't have a problem at all with him taking his time, but he has to be honest about it and say music was not his priority, that is all.

I wasn't really clear, was I? What I meant is, it is a lot harder for a girl to claim the crown - because the competition is much, MUCH tougher - than it is for a boy.

I mean, who could compete nowadays in the worldwide male popstar category? We have Justin Timberlake with only two albums and back after 7 years off, Justin Bieber who can't seriously be seen as a "king", maybe Usher but he's a bit too urban for that title, Adam Levine but he's in a band so he doesn't really qualify, and... that's it?!

So yes, I find it lazy to say JT is the king of pop, considering the last "king of pop" was Michael Jackson, and we can't really compare the output of both artists, can we? If anything, he can be the prince of pop, just like Britney has been for so many years.

It might be shit but it's a huge hit. For me the problem isn't in the sound he's gone for, it's just a weak song. Not got a memorable chorus, decidedly hideous intro...

I mean it's nice enough. For an album track. Agree with everyone who's hoping it's a buzz single.
Why are people trying to make it as if he'd been working on this song for 6 years?

As I said, it's an underwhelming song no matter how long it was worked on for?

And I agree with Jark. That intro is DIABOLICAL.

I don't think Timbaland was the best person to produce this. Fair enough, the song is very R&B, but it could do with something that gives it an edge, like Usher - Climax or Solange - Losing You. I absolutely love Timbaland productions but this sort of song is not his forté.
A couple of listens in and I'm unexpectedly liking this, got a real Marvin/Off The Wall MJ vibe about it. It's one to add to the list of decent Justin songs that I'm hoping one day will be plentiful enough to make an album out of. I think we're up to about 7 now.
Why are people trying to make it as if he'd been working on this song for 6 years?

I don't think people are saying this. Whether or not he has been working on the song for 6 years or did it last week, it is the fact that he has taken six years off and could have any time in these years decided to record new music, and however long it actually took, he still had a lot of time to perfect it, or if he did it very recently he could have spent more time perfecting it, so with a period as long as that, you do expect something better than this.
