May 6, 201312 yr The shock would be if he wasn't! :lol:Well I guess you've been shocked for the past 2 years then, seeing as this will be the first time he's appeared on Britain's Got Talent... (And he's had songs which were released which he could easily have used BGT to promote on, so it's not like the eras were done with to not promote them any longer)

He didn't do it last year either cause "Oh My Goodness" was out two months before and he was already onto recording this album/was away in America on "that" tour... I thought he was wanting to distance himself from Cowell's empire or is it just when it's Brits time wanting kudos for his artistry etc. Seems when it comes to promo he's quite happy to be linked though.
May 7, 201312 yr Well he's a mainstream artist, he's not not going to take the opportunity to perform and promote, is he? It frustrates me when an artist gets attacked for taking an opportunity most other popstars would take. He is the biggest male star we have in the UK at the moment, so he's obviously going to be in demand and wanted for these shows. If he's free to do it, he's bound to take up their offers. (I had no idea about the times he was on that American/Theatre tour - I always thought it was July/Aug time - so I get why he wasn't on BGT for those years now.)

You're twisting it though aren't you? He's left presenting Xtra Factor this year because of his touring schedule being so tight. He couldn't even do what he did last year with just doing the live shows because he has his European tour in October then his Australian shows in November. He's never mentioned anything about wanting to distance himself from X Factor because he's always said he's grateful for the opportunities the show gave him and that if his schedule had permitted he'd be back doing Xtra with Caroline again. All he said was that because of where he came from it's sometimes annoying in terms of public perception of himself to the 'serious muso' crowd but that's it. And need I remind you Will Young had a similar problem in terms of public perception and finding it difficult to cope with the criticism during his second and third albums so as a fan of Will's you should understand and be sympathetic to how Olly feels more than anyone.

All he said? There was plenty in the press that he wasn't happy that he wasn't getting the credit he deserved because of where he came from, even though he was still glued to where he came from, (ie Cowell's nest) and looks like he will continue to be so, and more so if he's actually keeping the door open as you suggest to return to XF. The situation of Will Young and Olly are worlds apart. Olly has wanted the best of both worlds - all the benefits of being linked to Cowell without any of the flak. Even what he's doing now in the States is piggybacking on what he was handed last year supporting One Direction courtesy of Cowell!
May 7, 201312 yr Olly is a reality tv star in every sense of the word. Nothing wrong with that but then he shouldn't whinge about not being seen as a credible artist who has made it away from the Cowell stable. I may be wrong but I reckon there'll be another u turn seeing him back on Xtra factor at the end of the year and promoting new material.

I may be wrong but I reckon there'll be another u turn seeing him back on Xtra factor at the end of the year and promoting new material. Exactly. I reckon if it becomes clear he still needs the association of XF/ Cowell / ITV etc to sustain his success here by God he'll be back. All this "will he won't he" that we always have is the usual Cowell claptrap to raise interest in the show and promo for the individual. What they're doing now is testing whether he can stand on his own two feet, and seeing which markets are open to him. He knows the score, and said in the States the other day he was worried that if he failed there it would affect the European market because they wouldn't see him as a success.
May 7, 201312 yr Author God. I'm a fan of Will Young's and I have all of his albums but some of his fans are incredibly bitchy about Olly and make a point of comparing them constantly and waiting for him to fail and I don't understand why. They're both at vastly different stages of their careers and have both been successful in their own right, as they deserve to be. Olly's never said anything bad against Will and to my knowledge neither has Will about Olly. It's pathetic and immature. 'Troublemaker', 'Heart Skips a Beat' and these last two albums have done very well in Europe and in Australia - he has a particularly strong fanbase in Germany and Sweden - which disproves your theories about 'can't stand up without X Factor' as he had to start from scratch with promo in both those countries. He works incredibly hard. The fact he is touring in Europe and Australia at the end of the year as well shows that he has been a success there. And again, as for America that quote was taken out of context. He's always said that his strongest fanbase has been here in the UK and in Europe and that any success he has Stateside will be a bonus but that he's grateful for the opportunity he's had to release and tour there. You mentioned Will Young, and as truly talented says they are nothing alike, they just both came from talent shows. It is Cowell who gets my goat, and Olly is a product of everything I don't like about the man's influence. I agree he works very hard but he will because he wants the fame, he's desperate for it. You do an amazing job promoting Olly and putting the best side of him all over the net (you aren't on his payroll are you?) but just because you like Will doesn't mean all Will fans are going to love Olly with you. And there's no need to be insulting just because someone's views don't accord with yours.

The fact he's focussing on touring and this album this year (he's actually not making/releasing another album until next year because he wants to maintain the standard he's already set material wise) and the fact he has had a hand in the writing of his material from the first album is proof that he IS in it for the music. Perhaps you would do well to see him live before assuming he's this preconceived person from a few recycled quotes that you have stuck in your head which would clearly be too hard a task for someone so close minded. And re: the payroll retort (so original by the way) - I'm flattered, believe you and me. I'm proud of the fansite and I love running it. Edited May 7, 201312 yr by ThePensmith

And re: the payroll retort (so original by the way) - I'm flattered, believe you and me. I'm proud of the fansite and I love running it. Believe me I've seen plenty of him but I wouldn't pay for the pleasure. Even Simon Cowell acknowledged he was no singer and I value decent singing for a start. Also I see plenty of other artists live so know what I like in a performer and Olly's not it. We clearly differ drastically in our assessment of him as a performer so let's leave it at that - I dont want to burst your happy bubble. As for how I think he's desperate for fame, my starting point is his statement of his ambition to be an "international superstar". It's funny how you think you are able to assess what he says properly but I can't. It's as possible for someone with rose tinted glasses to be wrong as someone whose cynical you know. We can all have our own opinions, it is OK.

May 9, 201312 yr Really liking this new one! This re-entered the charts at #195 on Sunday. Its chart run is: 179-out-195...
May 10, 201312 yr Author Debuts at #78 on airplay chart this week - Radio 1 and Radio 2 have both B-listed this. Video premieres on Monday!
May 10, 201312 yr So which old Britney Spears song does this randomly rip off (after 'troublemaker' was a soundalike of 'You Drive Me Crazy' and 'Army of Two' sounded like 'Oops!')?
