May 1, 201312 yr The way "I Love It" has been handled makes me reckon it'll go the way of Karmin's "Brokenhearted" and hang around for a few weeks before vanishing. Happy to be proven wrong though, but it just feels like it's been around too long. Macklemore's "Same Love" is sure to be a hit - R1 will be all over it. Sean Kingston f/ Cher Lloyd "Rum and Raybans" is a hit waiting to happen, not sure what's happening with the release. Could do big things both sides of the pond, it's got a 'party holiday' feel to it.

May 2, 201312 yr Mm can't post a link. Carlos Vives - Como Le Gusta A Tu Cuerpo I think that could be a hit, potentially a summer no1. Edited May 2, 201312 yr by Michael.
May 2, 201312 yr Author I'm not so sure 'Same Love' will be a hit. Maybe I'm being cynical but I just can't see the label trying after it tanked in the US.

I'm pretty sure it hasn't even been released in the USA? (It might have been released before 'Thrift Shop' when no one cared, but I don't think it's been given a proper push and re-release like 'Can't Hold Us' has, I assume it will be the next single).

May 3, 201312 yr ICONA POP will be THE anthem of Summer I reckon I have been raving on about this Swedish single for about 4 months now. Its massive in mainland Europe and even at #9 in the US this week. If it hadn't have been a hit in the US I doubt it would even get a UK release. :( But now it has :yahoo: Edited May 3, 201312 yr by euro music
May 3, 201312 yr What about the new Armin Van Buuren song? I heard that today - I thought it was David Guetta, I guess that probably guarantees it'll be a hit

May 3, 201312 yr It's hard to tell how 'I Love It' will do in particular. Surely it's pretty well known online since it has smashed all over the world so based on that it could do well on OA/OS. I guess it actually has nothing to lose unless we are overestimating just how popular/known it is. But that's the thing, there's NEVER anything to lose by releasing a song on-air on-sale. It's not logical AT-ALL to think that a song would EVER sell less copies by letting people buy it whenever they want, rather than only letting people buy it from a certain date. The only time not releasing a song OA/OS makes sense is for certain fanbase acts like McFly or the Saturdays, where they might be willing to get less overall sales if it means getting a higher peak chart position to go on their record... but even that doesn't apply for an anonymity like Icona Pop who don't have a fanbase and don't have fans who are going to patiently wait around for weeks and eventually buy the song just to help them get a high chart position. To go back to the Passenger example, how that song finally took off was it just got a few plays from somewhere, it got enough sales to sneak into the iTunes chart, and then things started snowballing by themselves as people browsing iTunes suddenly saw this song, and radio stations took notice of its high placing on iTunes too. Whereas, if the Icona Pop song gets those few plays from somewhere, because no-one can buy it, they can't spark off that snowballing process that 'Let Her Go' had. It's just a totally senseless decision to not put it up for sale, I can't see any benefits to it whatsoever. Edited May 3, 201312 yr by Danny

I think there is definitely a danger of releasing OA/OS for artists if their song fails to take off. Look at 2010/11 and the OA-OS releases by Beyonce and Britney. Both completely underperformed because they were OA/OS and never took off that much initially for radio to properly get behind them. At least the high-peaking position from held-back releases creates this illusion that a song is really popular. Maybe the 2010/11 OA/OS releases didn't work because they were pitted against held-back releases which they obviously couldn't contend with. Now that there are a lot more OA/OS releases this year, it's more fair.
May 4, 201312 yr Author I think some people need to learn the definition of anthem. Yeah I wouldn't describe 'Right There' and 'Let Her Go' as anthems.

Beyonce's song bombed all around the world, and 'Hold It Against Me' did extremely well here compared to how her follow-up singles did. I would say their underperforming was inevitable and would've happened whenever the songs were released. Edited May 4, 201312 yr by Danny
May 4, 201312 yr I think some people need to learn the definition of anthem. Anthems can mean different things for different people though. For example, Let Her Go will be an anthem to everyone who is leaving school this year. Edited May 4, 201312 yr by Griff
