August 1, 201311 yr The Doctor Who Magazine audition scripts that were put in by Moffat in the most recent issue seem to suggest that the 12th Doctor may be FEMALE, because not a single one of them mentions the Doctor as "he", so it seems the production team are really pushing for a female actress to take the role, and have directed the script for a unisex partaking. If the next Doctor is female... OMG, EXCITE *.*
August 2, 201311 yr If the next Doctor is female... ...it'd totally change and ruin the dynamics of the show and it'd lose a lot of support I'm sure. Would be an awful idea.
August 2, 201311 yr ...it'd totally change and ruin the dynamics of the show and it'd lose a lot of support I'm sure. Would be an awful idea. It would definitely change the dynamics of the show - not entirely convinced that it would ruin it, though. We've never had one before; so don't knock it 'til you've tried it. And if anything, it would only gain the show much more publicity and promotion than it already does have. With such a dramatic change, it would lead to mass amounts of media promotion. It'd be all over the internet, reported in tabloid newspapers, on the news (possibly), the Doctor Who fandom would go mad (hopefully in a good way; it'd be disappointing if they felt they couldn't trust Moffat's instincts); and such a change could potentially attract new audiences to the show.
August 2, 201311 yr I think it would be a very risky move and to be honest I don't think it would pay off. A new Doctor will get lots of publicity anyway so it'll do that regardless of gender. I don't think it will be female though, they've been very clever at orchestrating things in the past so I suspect this is just another case of building up hype before the reveal. That said I wish they had waited and simply revealed the new Doctor when Matt regenerates. Now THAT would be exciting.
August 2, 201311 yr I don't think they will go down the female route, when the show has been going for 50 years with a male Dr. for some reason it just feels so wrong. I actually agree with John's comment above they should have waited till the generation of the new Dr. in the Xmas episode to attract viewers. Wouldn't surprise me if Idris Elba is in the running for the role as well, his contract with Luther has just expired. Now that would be quite a catch.
August 2, 201311 yr I really hope it's a complete nobody who's going to spring to fame through this, as opposed to a developed actor who doesn't really need the job, and has been in a string of other shows. :(
August 2, 201311 yr I do think it will be and I REALLY doubt it'll be Idris. I mean he's already got some semblance of a Hollywood career so I doubt it's on his to do list.

August 2, 201311 yr http://www.festivalpreviews.com/old/edinburgh2009/shows/images/1001_Image3.jpg Somebody I know has claimed that while he was working at The Stamp Centre he heard a tip off from an insider that Moffat was already considering potential replacements for Matt Smith, should he decide to leave [this was around two years ago], and he was told it would be Daniel Rigby (pictured above). Daniel Rigby has now shot up in William Hill odds, going from 50/1 to 3/1. Thoughts?
August 2, 201311 yr Well he seems like a good fit for the role based on the BT ads. I'd be happy with him.
August 2, 201311 yr The guy of the BT ads is the same as the guy from the Waldo Black Mirror episode? What?! He looks like a very strong possibility if his odds have shrunk by so much, I think Matt Smith's odds did the same in such a short amount of time. He also is a relative unknown actor despite appearing in a few shows as well as on stage, similar to Matt again. Anyway, just no to a female Doctor. He is a Time Lord not a Time Lady. It will completely ruin the dynamic of the show.
August 2, 201311 yr Anyway, just no to a female Doctor. He is a Time Lord not a Time Lady. It will completely ruin the dynamic of the show. And Corsair was a Time Lord before he regenerated into a Time Lady! :o
August 2, 201311 yr When (and I do believe it's a case of when rather than IF) they go with a women they'll explain it away with something like Timelord is simply the name of the race, rather than a gender specific title. Anyway, if they got the casting right, it wouldn't bother me at all. It could bring a nice new dynamic to the show and might be just the breath of fresh air it needs as it's starting to feel a tad stale of late.
August 2, 201311 yr And Corsair was a Time Lord before he regenerated into a Time Lady! :o Yes, but that was just a random comment by the Doctor, like when he said he could regenerate 600 times or something in SJA. I refuse to believe he was telling the truth! Anyway, I believe it's too much of a risky move. One false move with the casting of the Doctor and ratings will fall sharply, I believe.
August 2, 201311 yr Yes, but that was just a random comment by the Doctor, like when he said he could regenerate 600 times or something in SJA. I refuse to believe he was telling the truth! Well no, he wasn't telling the truth then, because that was in no way canon. Major error on Russell T Davies' part there. By that point, RTD had stepped down as Head Writer, so I think anything he would try and claim that was relevant to the Doctor would just be laughed off by Moffat. Given the aforementioned quote was in Moffat's era, though, and in such a successful episode, I doubt Moffat would completely close the door on something like that.
August 2, 201311 yr I hope they don't cast a woman. It just won't be the same without a male doctor :( I'm excited for the reveal tho. Hopefully it's someone good, but obviously I won't be able to tell until I've seen him in action.

I'm sure Romana in the original series was called a Timelord rather than a Timelady.
August 2, 201311 yr Ahh well I've only seen a handful of episodes from TOS so I wasn't too sure. Whereas I am very old and saw them at the time
