Greece was one of my favourites from this year! Such a lively, jumpy, feel good track. Plus some wishful thinking that if only Alcohol was indeed free.

THIS!

You said what I said on faceook last night in different words. I said, Greece could send a sneezing baboon in as an entry and still get top 5.

Is everybody forgetting that Greece only came 17th last year?
With a much better song too! :( But it's still the final. The likes of Turkey, Armenia, Serbia etc. have proved that they aren't untouchable but I'd love a year when either Russia or Greece don't even reach the final.

Well, clearly apart from yesterday when they didn't get top five...or last year when they came 17th.

Their entries are by and large pretty memorable. Turkey showed a couple of years ago that a diaspora is no guarantee of getting into the final.

Eurovision is great, the right songs generally win each year, and the pattern of voting is the same for all countries east or west, you could see it in the last 30 minutes when the top 10 songs got votes from everyone, pretty much (if you ignore the odd bit of neighbouirly voting which doesnt influence the Top 10 hardly at all - the voting panel;s have FAR more influence than neighbourly voting, thats just 4 or 5 "experts": I give you Blue as evidence, Top 5 in the telephone votes, bottom 5 in voting panels).

The UK keeps losing cos the BBC ignores our pop songwriters - you DONT need a famous name to win, obviously! 2 British songwriters were placed higher than our entry (not British), and even a 40-year-career songwriter from a metal band wrote a more commercial song than the UK's....

Russia, Azerbaijan & co win/do well consistently cos they hire current/established songwriters. Most of my faves did well this year (except Bonnie, and I'm biased in her favour and the song took a good 2 months to grow on me)

hooray!

I've uploaded a few of my favourite pics from my trip, featuring pics of the arena, bits of Copenhagen, Malmo, random things and pics showing just how crazy they go for Eurovision in Sweden. One of my favourite things was the local shopping mall doing 'Euphoria Hour' between 6 and 7 yesterday, 20%-50% off everything in every shop for one hour just because of Eurovision. Amazing!

Was Carola falling over part of the interval act last night?

I haven't seen anyone mention it and I'm honestly not sure what to make of it.....

Yes, it was a joke relating to her fondness of using strong wind machine's, part of the interval act as something that Sweden is famous for. Although that said, Carola is hardly a major star anywhere other than Sweden so most people wouldn't have made the connection, hence the lack of talk around it.

It was definitely a joke (a brilliant one as well) as 'Fångad Av En Stormvind' (the 1991 Sweden entry) translates to something like 'Caught In A Storm Wind' so yes, Carola was literally caught in a storm wind. :D

Oh, and I'll echo the YES PLS for Little Boots for Eurovision just as long as she enters a track on par with 'Remedy'.

Soooooooo

Russian Channel 1 Eurovision watch was indeed hilarious just like I had expected but I'm going to talk about the contestants themselves.

Really liked:

- Germany. What the hell, how did they flop? Natalie was really on fire, the song is 9/10 too.

- Norway. Wowzerz, Margaret BURNED the whole show, such a great dark electropop track!

- Malta. I saw so many negative comments in here about them. Yes, his smile was kinda creepy but the song as a whole was very feel-good, it made us smile. Edit: not in a way he did!

- Netherlands. Anouk definitely stood out and that was in a good way. Great song and performance

Also decent:

- Denmark. Kinda overrated though

- Russia. Pretty good track but HA at Russian propaganda TV, as they were hyping her up to death as a 'Russian treasure' but didn't even *slightly* acknowledge the fact that the song is written by Swedes.

- Ukraine. Entertaining!

- Moldova. I like the staging, the performance and the voice were good too.

Not counter but not pro too (5/10 rating):

- France

- Lithuania

- Sweden

- Hungary

- Greece

- United Kingdom

- Spain

WTF:

- Belgium. Was this guy under some serious drugs? I've never seen anyone singing "love kills" so happily, he almost had a heart attack from happiness proving the point of the song but kinda in the opposite way.

- Finland. This could be sung by Katy Perry as a b-side.

- Romania. erm... just no

- Belarus. So 2003 and so cheap that I can't even...

Now going to the worst i.e....

...Dull:

- Armenia. No words

- Italy. ITALY. Did they bring up some random singer from the bar? Too typical and too boring

- Azebaijan. Again pure disappointment. Why does Europe like their songs from contest to contest? Well, at least unlike Italy he had a performance.

- Ireland. One of the most predicable songs I've ever heard

- Georgia. Non-song + shouting instead of singing

- Estonia. at least she didn't shout

- Iceland. Didn't go anywhere too

Whoever decided to do the early winner announcement needs to be sacked

It confused everyone in the audience too but I suspect the reason that they did it as so that Emmelie could be prepped and rushed to the stage whilst Petra announced the remaining votes, seeing as they were running about 15+ minutes behind schedule. Shoddy from SVT but they clearly tried to cram so much in that it just wouldn't fit into 3 hours and 15 minutes.

They should officially run it 5 or 10 minutes longer in future, is it ever finished properly by 11:15?!

And I must ask - is the music used in the postcards an actual piece of music anywhere? I suspect it was probably a special thing but I thought it was stunning, an extra touch to make these postcards the best I've seen, kudos to SVT for them and the general butterfly presentation.

I had a dream last night that the original Sugababes would be the UK entry next year  Prophetic?
