"Moves Like Jagger" by Maroon 5 & Christina Aguilera was blocked by SIX different songs when it stayed at #2 for 7 straight weeks:

"We Found Love" - Rihanna f/ Calvin Harris

"All About Tonight" - Pixie Lott

"Loca People" - Sak Noel

"No Regrets" - Dappy

"What Makes You Beautiful" - One Direction

"Stay Awake" - Example

"Lose My Breath" by Destiny's Child was blocked by THREE different songs when it stayed at #2 for 4 weeks:

"I'll Stand By You" - Girls Aloud

"Vertigo" - U2

Any more good examples?

Sean Paul - She Doesn't Mind

Blocked by: "Part Of Me", "Turn Up The Music" and "Call Me Maybe"

(while i'm not really a fan of the Sean Paul track, i'd rather have seen it beat Katy Perry and Chris Brown to #1)

Eww at the songs that prevented 'Lose My Breath' from going to number 1! In particular that U2 song. :puke: 'I'll Stand By You' I will let off as it was for charity etc.., but there was no reason for that song to be prevented by those two other tracks :( Easily my favourite DC song.

Alice Deejay "Better Off Alone"

Blocked by: "When You Say Nothing At All" by Ronan Keating; "If I Let You Go" by Westlife; "Mi Chico Latino" by Geri Halliwell

Oh God. That's far worse than those that prevented Destiny's Child. Good Lord. :(

Also, was Kate Nash prevented by Rihanna 'Umbrella', Timbaland 'The Way I Are' & Robyn 'With Every Heartbeat'? It might just be the former two, but I know she had five weeks at number 2!

Iirc, 'Just Lose It' was going to get released a week later then the record company decided to bring the release date forward so that there would be all these US acts all competing for the #1 spot. Had this remained as originally planned, 'Lose My Breath' may well have had at least 1 week at no. 1, which would've meant an Eminem Vs U2 battle (I would've been team U2 had that been the case).

Speaking of Eminem, 'Love The Way You Lie' was kept off #1 by Yolanda Be Cool, Flo Rida, Roll Deep and Taio Cruz.

MASSIVE chart injustice. :( Especially since it's pretty much outsold all those other songs that prevented it from #1, like with "Moves Like Jagger" & "Love The Way You Lie".

Some examples from the good old days:

August 1973: "Yesterday once more" from The Carpenters was blocked by Gary Glitters "The leader of the gang (I am)" for one week and by Donny Osmonds "Young love" for another week.

December 1983: Paul Youngs "Love of the common people" was blocked by "Uptown Girl" (Billy Joel, 1 week) and by "Only you" (Flying Picketts, 2 weeks).

March 1990: "Love Shack" from The B-52's was blocked by Beats Internationals "Dub be good to me" (1 week) and for another 2 weeks by Snaps "The Power". Three fine tunes!!

August 1990: DNA and Suzanne Vegas big hit "Tom's Diner" was blocked for 2 weeks by "Turtle Power" (Partners in Kryme) and by Bombalurinas "Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini" (for 1 week). It would have been the better No.1...

Fortunately P!nk and Nate Ruess was stopped from going to #1 by PJ & Duncan, then Duke Dumont & A*M*E.

Kelis' "Milkshake" stayed at #2 for 4 straight weeks. The first two behind "All This Time" by Michelle and then 2 more weeks behind "Take Me To The Clouds Above" by LMC Vs. U2.

Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together" got stuck behind "Ghetto Gospel" by 2Pac/Elton John and "You're Beautiful" by James Blunt the 2 separate weeks it was at #2.

These 3 singles are amazing and more deserved # 1s, than "Better Off Alone"

Whilst I'd agree on that now in 2013, I was 9 years old when 'Turtle Power' and 'Itsy Bitsy...' were topping the charts, and they were two of my fave songs in the chart at the time. Naturally, my 9 year old self was disappointed when the more credible 'The Joker' became the next UK #1 hit. :D

I remember that week. One of the most competitive ever:

01 (NE) Just Lose It

02 (NE) Lose My Breath

03 (NE) My Prerogative - Britney Spears

04 (NE) Car Wash - Christina Aguilera f/Missy Elliott

09 (NE) Stop/DJ - Jamelia

They were ALL predicted as #1 contenders. The next time we would have a competitive week like that would have been in 2008 (the week "If I Were A Boy", "Womanizer", "The Boy Does Nothing", Leona's "Forgive Me" and Christina's "Keeps Gettin' Better" were released).

Better :smoke:

Was the 'I'll Stand By You'/'Lose My Breath' top two the last time two girl-groups were top two?

(that is a poorly articulated sentence I know )

We have a rule in the English language where the word "amazing" is never used in association with Ronan Keating or Westlife.

Underground classic beaten by two novelty hits. How sad is that.

Maybe, but Alex's point is valid, they were better than "Better Off Alone".
