There have been 25 UK "Nordic" chart toppers (as far as I can count) though there may be some acts that pre-date Abba as I didn't look back beyond them.

Excusing my ignorance, but does Nordic mean Swedish or Scandanavian in general?

Nordic is, I believe, the term used to described the wider area than just "Scandinavia"

Scandinavia= Denmark, Norway, Sweden

Nordic= Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland

:D

The majority of the 'Nordic #1's' come from Sweden, I can only otherwise think of A-Ha from Norway, Aqua and Whigfield from Denmark, none from Iceland or Finland which seems a shame. And since the turn of the century alone we've had Call On Me, With Every Heartbeat, I Love It, Don't You Worry Child, Now You're Gone, I Could Be The One, Axel F and if you count it Lola's Theme, all from Sweden. And Swedish close calls (i.e. top 3) from Euphoria, Release Me, All I Ever Wanted, Pjanoo, Proper Education and I've probably forgotten a few. Not to mention the fact that Dr Luke, Max Martin and the guys that wrote most of the original X Factor/Pop Idol artist/Westlife hits are all Swedish and account for literally 10s more #1's and tons of top 3s!

Nationality breakdown of 2010s #1s (looking at lead artist only):

65 UK

32 USA

5 Barbados

3 France

3 Sweden

1 Australia

1 Belgium

1 Canada

1 Ireland

1 Netherlands

1 South Korea

1 Spain

(Possibly 'controversial': UK includes Helping Haiti (American, Irish and Canadian members but mostly UK), Rita Ora x2 (born in Kosovo) and Iyaz (from overseas territory Virgin Islands). Gotye is counted as Belgian rather than Australian).

Rihanna alone guarantees Barbados the 3rd slot in the decade to date. Sweden has the most different *artists* besides the UK and the USA, as Barbados and France each only have 2 (Rihanna/Cover Drive and David Guetta/Daft Punk) while Sweden have Swedish House Mafia, Avicii and Icona Pop.

Rihanna alone giuarantees Barbados the 3rd slot in the decade to date.

She giuarantees it, does she?

I don't understand another fake I Love It showing up the same week as the real version is released, are Icona Pop that anonymous that people can't tell the difference? Hallelujah for another Swedish act at #1 though! Once again punching above their weight as a country, when was the last time an act from any other Scandinavian country got a #1, it's been so long I really can't remember!

The last Scandinavian act (also Swedish) to get to #1 was With Every Heartbeat by Robyn in 2007

Actually it was I Could Be The One by Avicii earlier this year. My question was the last non-Swedish Scandinavian act at #1 in the UK and having looked back a bit, the answer is Danish act Aqua's Turn Back Time way back in 1998 :o The other Nordic nations need to get their act together! Finland came close with The Rasmus, Darude and Bomfunk MC's in the 00s, Denmark with Infernal and Junior Senior and Norway with Lene Marlin and Madcon but none made the top.

And poor Iceland can barely get anywhere near despite being the best of the Nordic nations musically.
