But surely this all bottles down to their team though? I mean they must have had the ultimate choice on single?

Of course. I'm not blaming the girls directly. I'm contesting that it's the fault of the label and not the song. It IS the fault of the song. And the girls have been bigging it up to death so I think they were more than happy for it to be the single.

For what it's worth, 30 Days is a much better song. :D

Well they're not going to go around slagging it off to be fair, but I get your point!

I don't get the 30 Days hate, I actually really quite like it.

As a fan, I did really try to get behind this single and I did buy the EP and the CD.

But it must be said.. I would skip it too :(

Oh right sorry, I do agree tbh. I mean eventhough I've loved this from the get go there does seem to be something missing from it.

On the note of track skipping, 30 Days and Just Can't Get Enough are the ones I almost indefinitely skip - I'm just not overtly keen dance tracks and 30 Days sadly falls under heavy dance for me.

Not trying to be mean or agressive, but I still think people just don't get it. Some dismiss the fact that it's the management's fault and put it on the back of the song instead, but their team are are the people behind this choice. The song didn't decide to release itself with its own free will.

I get what you're saying, but being 6 years into their career I have to imagine that the girls have some sort of pull when it comes to single choices. I mean, Una herself said Gentleman was her all-time favorite single (granted she says that with a lot of them, but still). If it was their first or second album I can see management deciding everything, but from what we've seen they have management wrapped around their fingers at this point.

I really don't think they fawn much over Gentleman. Una, in her natural way, said it was her favorite like always, but the others always say like "... Yeah... it's good...It's very tongue-in-cheek... That's why we did it, it's fun and different! We're doing pop so we can always mix it with something different... and you know pop is fun... Yeah, it's great... " it's like they need to explain themselves sometimes.

Don't get me wrong, I personally like Gentleman, but as a fan, it's much easier for me to like a Sats song than the general public.

I'm pretty sure they have an opinion and that they say it proudly without any problem, but it's not because they ask for something that they will necessary get it.

That reminds me of the What About Us video meeting. The idea was already there. That woman asked for their opinions, they pitched some ideas, say what they wanted. For example, I remember Vanessa saying she wanted something more mature/grown-up. That's what she wants, but she can't decide how she will get it. That's not her decision.

They aren't puppets, that's what I mean. They clearly say what they think and want to their management, but at the end of the day, they are the people who manage the girls, not the other way around!

It wouldn't surprise me if they said something like "We would like to do something different for the next single" (their idea, their opinion) and that's when the label/management enters and decides to release Gentleman.

Can't quite believe I'm saying this but Griff is bang on. I mean of course they've been plagued with dodgy single choices, release dates etc. over the years. But the problem here was the song. Didn't we all know from the moment we heard it that it wasn't a hit? I certainly did.

They did their usual promotional effort TV-wise (which worked for What About Us). People didn't hear it on radio as much because the song is such a nothing that radio didn't want to play it. It all comes back to the quality of the material. The Saturdays can't rely on their fanbase to buy singles and albums because frankly it's a small fanbase, and by releasing crap like this they killed their own momentum.

I said straight away is was a mistake, as soon as we heartache clip & got shot down. Sure, the song started to grow on me, but still I say it's the worst mistake they've made so far.

i have to say Gentleman is up there with ITIL as one of those songs I skip when on a SaturShuffle - already! Where as 'flops' like 30 Days and Forever Is Over still get a regular spin on my pod.

im very very very sad and disapointed its not gone top ten. I just hope they soldier on through and release another single.

How can you skip ITIL!! it's the one song I can keep going back to :)

#27 on iTunes, holding up better than I expected.

It sold 29,882 which is quite impressive for a track at #14, it should hopefully pass 100,000!

Not sure I see a 100k+ total for this single, even if the sales are great for the position. '30 Days' opened with 36,214, and its second week sales were roughly 17k. That's 53k+ in two weeks, but as far as I'm aware it's only on an 80k+ total.

'Gentleman' will probably drop to 11k-12k next week, so its two week total will be a little over 40k.

29K, just like you predicted!

I

 It's pretty much the only time one of my predictions has come true! Glad it was nearer to 30k though. ^_^
It sold better than If This Is Love, Up and My Heart Takes Over did in there first week and It's only a few hundred under what Notorious sold in it's first week! I'd say that's not too bad. It's better than I expected. :)
Sats singles always tend to halve in their second week, besides What About Us but that halved in it's third week.
Their recent live performances of this confirmed that they mimed on This Morning/Daybreak. Mollie's "so 1999 so hard for a girl to find" is really cute and is a bit aggressive on their TV performances yet every live performances have her doing the line completely different. Same with Vanessa's chorus line. It was really soft and restrained on the TV performances yet it's much more firm and sounds different at their live gigs. I also can't help but think Mollie and Frankie are being helped out loads with a backing track on their vocals with this song, just like What About Us. They're sounding far too good lately to be live.
The opening sales were good, especially for number 14, a top 30 place this week and a top 40 place on week 3 would help sales nicely creep up to 100,000 but i think 75,000 to 80,000 will be the most t his will sell.

Of course they sound different when they're performing on live tv with minimal crowd in a studio than when they are performing at a festival with lots of people and open air
