The whole point of releasing pre-album singles is that they could easily land in the top 10. Now they just missed their shot. I wonder how it will affect them.

With Higher and Ego almost missing the top 10, I suppose they are a bit scared to release another post-album singles. They will need huge loads of airplay to make them land in the top 10.

It's fun as a fan of any act to discuss/predict what album tracks could be singles, and how well they would do. We rarely have that pleasure with The Saturdays. The fact that there's only been 4 post-album singles in a 5 year career is really quite something!

There's now been a string of 6 pre-album releases (and soon it'll be 7), charting 8-3-15-7-1-14. Bar 'What About Us' and to an extent 'All Fired Up', they're not exactly pulling off massive hits by sticking to this way of going on.

3 times out of 4 they've done very well with post-album releases (and to be fair, 'Work' wasn't exactly a 'Beautiful 'Cause You Love Me'; despite the #22 peak, it did well overall). I'd love them to actually justify the forthcoming album by releasing singles from it, but like I wrote earlier, I just see this album as an inevitable repeat of 'On Your Radar' - unless the next single is REALLY something quite special.

'Work' outsold 'My Heart Takes Over ', ' 30 Days ' and should outsell 'Gentleman' :kink:
Are you just suggesting they throw out an album with no single before it?!

No?

I'm saying they need to hurry up and get an album out there. They've had 15 singles and only four of them were post-album. That means that 11 times we've had to endure the same old "hype" crap with lyrics being revealed, teasers, radio premieres, video stills, video teasers, video releases and six week waits until the song is released and then since they're all held back for so long the majority of them are gone from the charts, TV channels and radio stations in a few weeks because the song flops and ultimately it's just a big build up for nothing. With Issues, Ego and Higher they all spent over 20 weeks in the top 100 (I'm sure?), sold well over 200K and gave boosts to their respective albums. Even Work sold over 100K and that peaked at #22!

I just don't understand why they keep throwing out a mass amount of pre-album singles when aside from Up and What About Us, they always flop. The "three singles before an album" approach doesn't work unless you're just debuting so I don't know why they keep going down that road. The worst part is that you just KNOW if this new album flops they'll abandon it and move on to another one instead of releasing more singles.

It just sucks because when an album is released I like to think of all the possible singles and possible themes for music videos for them and stuff but with The Sats it just seems like we get the album, get to listen to amazing songs and then that's it because we know none of them will get released.

i agree, i hate the fact that they are doing this again, 3 singles and then album, and then new era next year at the same time

boring, i want long era, i want them to release at least 2 singles after album so more people will be interested in buying it, that's the point of album ,right? not releasing 3 singles, then album filled with songs which sounds more like compilation with a bunch of songs, instead of album

TOO MUCH NEGATIVITY.

Why can't we think about what'll happen if this album does well? Top 10 would be a great result for it.

Or we could talk about Gentleman lol.

I think we've said all that needs to be said about that for now. :kink:

the thing that bugs me about the albums is when they are released. Stooshe's album got to #8 but OYR sold WAY more than that and didnt make top 20.

Well, that's a very complicated thing.

Yes, The Saturdays sold more at #22 in November than Stooshe at #8 in May, but the sales climate was completely different. It's true that album sales are usually quite high near the end of the year. For all we know, that might have helped The Saturdays. It could have sold, I don't know, like 15k if it wasn't for the November release. We just don't know.

I just hope everything goes well. Sadly, even if Gentleman is ~different~ (lol), I still don't think it will sell the album. I think that a great dance track like What About Us has more chance to succeed in doing that.

A top 10 placing is far from a guarantee of an album's success. Just look at this week's chart - only the top 5 sold above 10k. Chart positions mean increasingly less these days, especially in the era of on air, on sale whereby some of the most successful singles sell evenly over time rather than peaking and tumbling. An enduring hit also means stronger album sales. I can't imagine them getting another platinum album now, there's been too many failed attempts. But if they pick the next single wisely they could at least get back to the upper echelons of the singles chart which should be their sole focus right now. I mean you can't exactly survive as a "singles act" when you're going in at #14 and dropping like a bomb.

That's true I guess, but I can't imagine that realistically they'll get an album that sells as well as Chasing Lights or Headlines! with this, might not even outsell Wordshaker in this climate and judging by OYR, so realistically, a top 10 position would be SOMETHING at least, cause it'll plummet wherever it enters if they don't bother with post-album singles.

dance doesn't sell album, they need true pop track like UP

but i want them to experiment more again like they did with Notorious and AFU, i'll never stop praising those 2

Gentleman is falling so fast its likely that outside their fanbase not many people even know the song and it will leave the top 100 long before what about us. Hindsight is a great thing but i really feel the album should have been released the week after what about us as there was hype around what about us and the Saturdays got extra hype in the press from achieving their first number 1 single. Sadly i think the opportunity of a decent selling album has now passed and the album will struggle but i think 100,000 overall sales will be the maximum the album will achieve. Ideally if single number three could do an Olly Murs and far out do the second single things would look much more promising.

Strangely if a greatest hits comes after this studio album i believe it could do well. They are mainly a singles act, in general it is fair to say they are not an albums act so a greatest hits could very much appeal to the many people who buy their singles but not their albums.

I'm the first one to call them out on bad choices but I want to point out some positives for a minute. First of all, let's be glad that they didn't release the album off the back of Gentleman because that would've been game over for sure. Second, as long as the next single is somewhat similar to WAU or their other past hits, it should perform decently well which should allow the album to succeed. My guess is that since Gentleman was such a flop and barely a blip on the radar, most people don't know it exists or will have forgotten about it. This upcoming single might as well be the second single off the album. I'm glad they learned their lesson with Gentleman now rather than during album release time.
I think Gentleman's not doing too bad. A fall from 14 - 30 - 49 was not as bad as I was thinking! 30 Days and My heart takes over pathetically failed, but this should be able to sell over 100k eventually
This is the second least popular cherry picked song from the new Now! album. Even Charlie Brown's song from a few months ago is 200 places higher than this (which was only released a few weeks ago). Jeez.
