July 25, 201313 yr Omg just realised they are ignoring kings of Leon for first time since 2003; terrible! How is it terrible? Think about it.
July 25, 201313 yr No Daft Punk this week either - maybe Lose Yourself To Dance isn't confirmed as the next single after all?
July 25, 201313 yr No Daft Punk this week either - maybe Lose Yourself To Dance isn't confirmed as the next single after all? Please be the case *prays to god* Has to be 'Instant Crush'.
July 25, 201313 yr Bit too early to say that  R1 sometimes tend to wait a few weeks to get these OA/OS releases on their playlist yeah maybe, but shows there lack of relevance still when other OA/OS singles get put on straight away such as Kanye, Jay-Z to name a few. Their sales will fall away now and itll be out of the top 40. Whens the album out? This wont be the lead single anyway i suppose!
July 25, 201313 yr How is it terrible? Think about it. Just my opinion, good to see abit of rock doing well in the chart!
July 25, 201313 yr Just my opinion, good to see abit of rock doing well in the chart! I can safely assume that people who listen to Radio 1 aren't exactly interested in Kings Of Leon. They're basically "past it" in a sense and would do much better for themselves by getting playlisted on Radio 2. Edited July 25, 201313 yr by ~ * G R I F F * ~
July 25, 201313 yr I do think it's terrible how Radio 1 decide who is 'relevant' and who is not, they're worse than ever with their flavours of the month lately and it seems they're more desperate than ever to be seen as "cool" and "hip".

How can you "safely assume" that people who listen to Radio 1 aren't interested in Kings Of Leon??

Oh no, they've played it a few times and I think it's pathetic how they're going after unrelevant rock acts instead of other new artists who need the support. I do agree that they don't need to change their restrictions on which hits they should play (mainly because other radio stations give them more than enough support) but that's another debate altogether. They're basically "past it" in a sense and would do much better for themselves by getting playlisted on Radio 2. There are only a few songs from them that would be suitable for the radio 2 playlist! Radio 1 only really started heavily playing their singles around 2007 or so (the album before Sex on Fire) before that they were a blist band who did alright in the singles chart top 20 with first release and top 40 after that! But they had a massive uk fanbase and each album went to no1 even without a massive lead single! Edited July 25, 201313 yr by steve201
July 25, 201313 yr Kings Of Leon will probably just be playlisted next week, as they often do with OA/OS singles. I would be VERY surprised if R1 suddenly stopped supporting KOL.
July 25, 201313 yr Kinda pissed that Lorde didn't get moved up to the actual playlist. At least Le Youth, Diplo x DJ Fresh, Disclosure and Bastille (to a lesser extent) was all C-listed I suppose.

I think they will be playlisted as they are someone's Big Thing of the Week (I don't know which due to the new layout for the playlist ) I do think it's terrible how Radio 1 decide who is 'relevant' and who is not, they're worse than ever with their flavours of the month lately and it seems they're more desperate than ever to be seen as "cool" and "hip". I must admit that it is really annoying that once Radio 1 stops putting someone on their playlist, their career is basically over.
July 25, 201313 yr I must admit that it is really annoying that once Radio 1 stops putting someone on their playlist, their career is basically over. This only applies to artists who only have a career in the first place because of R1's support.

They're basically "past it" in a sense and would do much better for themselves by getting playlisted on Radio 2. Maroon 5 were past it too, but once they broke out again without R1 support, they got playlisted with almost everything. Radio 1 aren't quite the trend setters they think they are and the obsession with getting rid of older listeners is embarrassing.

It's actually weird how Lorde got dropped from the playlist at the same time as being Greg James' record of the week. I know this doesn't usually happen but I have this sneaky feeling that they might add it back to the C-list next week. Tennis Court is a smash waiting to happen!
July 25, 201313 yr Actually, Radio 1 are in trouble with the BBC Trust because they haven't shed enough of their older listeners, as they are obliged to do.
July 25, 201313 yr Actually, Radio 1 are in trouble with the BBC Trust because they haven't shed enough of their older listeners, as they are obliged to do. That is EXACTLY why Radio 1 shouldn't be blamed. It's the BBC Trust's fault for their expectations.
