At number two we have 'I Turn to You'. In the end it was even close. Even though, imo this is a much better song and would have been my "11" had I not given it to 'On the Horizon'. Ah well. It's great that it finished 2nd and it couldn't have finished 2nd to a better, more universally liked song, tbh. 'I Turn To You' was a complete switch in sound for R Melly and remains to this day, the sole, pure dance/trance anthem from any member of the Spice Girls. It was/is a true anthem and classic. It's euphoric in it's sound and it's easy to see why it was her 3rd solo number 1. Again, it was another song that seemed pretty inescapable at the time due to airplay/video play.

So there we have it 'NEVER BE THE SAME AGAIN' has been crowned the WINNER of the Solo Spice rate. A very deserving winner, I feel. It's a timeless classic and shows that Mel can be just as diverse as any other popstar on the planet after tampering with soft-pop/rock with 'When You're Gone', heavy rock with (albeit abysmal) 'Goin' Down' she decided to slow things down and give us a chilled out, R&B number duetting with the most famous member of TLC and it definitely paid off for her. It gave her, her first number 1 as the main credited artist. It was (yet again) another massive radio hit and I think (ignoring WYG) it's the biggest solo Spice track. It didn't really appeal to my 10 year old self, but it's definitely one for the more mature audience (hence why I probably love it as much as I do now, than I did back then).

Never Be The Same Again is one of my favourite songs of all time. So amazing :wub:.

what a brilliant top 2. "never be the same again" is without a doubt the most stylish spice girls solo record, still sounds so good right now.

Predictable winner, but it's such a classy song :)

Maybe was robbed!

The ideal top three - I've become hooked on 'Maybe' lately, I always liked it but it's in my head all the time :drama: And obviously those Mel C songs are just leagues ahead of anything, I can't choose between them even though they're quite different.

 

'Bag It Up' FAR too low though, it's deliriously insane! And 'Out of Your Mind' I expected to have more cache on here, hmm.

'Tell Me' and 'I Want You Back' are FAR too low, although I forgot to vote so I can't say anything. Incredible winner, 'Northern Star' really does have the best singles from any solo Spice album. So happy 'Northern Star' (the single) made it into the top ten, I always feel it's overlooked compared to the other two.

Pleasing winner, definitely amongst my top 20 songs ever. I would have liked "What Took You So Long" in second place but you can't have it all.
