Yep can't see Man City blowing it now. Although, I guess the saying is 'It's not over until it's over'

Would be horrible to think how close we'd have come, but I guess I'll just console myself with Champions League football

Unfortunately that will probably be overlooked by most fans and rightly so considering the position we're in. 7th to 3rd (at least) though is a big achievement especially considering the lack of improvement to the squad over the summer. Mignolet is the only signing that you could say has made a significant impact with the others being in and out or sat warming the bench

More games will make it difficult to challenge for the league next season, but there's no reason we can't with the right signings. Rodgers says he expects us to sign 5-6 players over the summer added to Borini, Wisdom, Ibe and Suso back from loan. Luckily Champions League will also hopefully mean no Aspas or Alberto type signings this summer

Throughout 2013, and 2014 (so far) Liverpool have been excellent. Once the players took to Rodgers' methods they've improved no end. I probably think we'll sign 4/5 players in the summer, 2 of them first teamers and the rest younger squad players. Disappointing and unfortunate if we don't win the title, but I've no doubt we'll be challengers for the forseeable future. The 'impact' of extra games is over-played, and whilst I probably don't think we will win the title next season, I expect to be challenging again. Spurs and Man Utd have been awful this year, and I expect both will continue to be awful next season despite what everyone will say. Whilst Moyes was an awful appointment, I think as yesterday showed, the rot at Man Utd is far more deeper now than David Moyes

The extra games thing will probably hurt Liverpool more than other teams simply because your style of football is very dependent on having a high level of energy. You tire out in individual games even when you're only playing 40 a season now. Barcelona even in their pomp used to hit problems with fatigue and injury in the second half of the season just because of how much they pressed.

I wouldn't say we tire out, we just drop the intensity levels on purpose after the first 20 minutes. We only press properly when they opportunity is there. I expect we'll revert back to 4-3-3 next season, and mix it up with the 4-4-2 diamond when its needed. Plus we have used about 14 players since December to now, I certainly think adding another 6 to that will help massively. Certainly think we could do with another athlete or two in the squad.

Well im going to enjoy this. If your a bristol city fan its been a good few days. Bristol city finish inthe top half of league 1. Amazing, considering where we were when cotterill took over. Yeovil are relegated. Cardiff are relegated. And best of all, Bristol rovers are relegated out of the football league  Even better is that because of the violent actions by their lot yesterday (fights with police, punching a police horse, punching 2 of their own players, threatening mansfield fans with knives etc) they could well get a huge fine and possibly a big points deduction. This could relegate them to the conference south. :D i haveno sympathy for them after they laughed at us last year for being relegated. And also the history (hollowhead wanting to play hunt the city fan etc) :D enjoy eastleigh, alfreton and grimsby guys.

onto Bristol city though as they are most important and what a turn around it has been by cotterill. Didnt aggree with his appointment but fair play to him keeping us up and pushing us into midtable top half. We need to build on this season though and try and gain a bit of momentum for a promotion push. Of the loanees i would keep wade elliott, martin patterson, nyron nosworthy and possibly simon gillet. We need to keep JET and the golden boot winner baldock tbh.

On a side note, feel sorry for the carlisle fan on here slightly, good luck in league 2 next year :)

^ Thanks.

That Hamilton result was impressive, if Dundee had dropped points Hamilton would have been in the automatic spot on goals scored.

There is also the actions of the Newcastle fans leaving their game in the 60th and 69th minutes.

As for Carlisle, well I have Luton Town to look forward to (locally) as well as a trip to see my relatives in the Northeast with Hartlepool in that division as well. Possibility of another if Gateshead get through the play off final.

Which is why it looks a little dodgy.

Sigh. What a horrible choke from Liverpool tonight.

It happens, the pressure inevitably got to us in the end. Disappointing of course, but it's not mathematically over yet (just saying this to give the Newcastle game some meaning) and it's been such a mad season. Call it naivety/poor game management/complacency, we shouldn't have gone gung-ho once they got a lucky break back in to the game. I think the game displayed the best and worst of Liverpool. We badly missed Henderson, lost our marbles and had no options to solidify midfield.

Regardless it's been an amazing season. Title challenge and runners-up. We'll add more quality in the summer, and build on from there. I've no doubt we will be challenging for the title for the foreseeable future, all of the cogs are in place.

Liverpool have done themselves incredibly proud this season - I think Liverpool will finish 2nd and I'm sure had the majority of Liverpool fans been offered second that would have happily taking it! Rodgers budget will be much larger next season and if they manage to keep Suarez and strengthen their defence, I think they will win the league.

Of course we would. It's a project, just the past three months have really intensified the expectations and critics. We can attract the top quality tier of players now. It will be between Arsenal, Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea I'm sure.

I hope Suarez stays but who knows. If he doesn't, I've no doubt we will go back for Costa and try to match Chelsea's bid. Our defence has been a fundamental problem for years now, it's not even that bad, just majorly prone to brain farts. The thing is it's only the third goal tonight that really was a defensive error. First was an unlucky deflection, and the second, well if Suarez wasn't already on a booking he would have just cynically fouled the lad.

This has been one of the best seasons for Liverpool that I can remember league position wise since the family and I returned to the UK, so brilliant season there.

In Carlisle news, 11 players have been released and deals offered to Thirlwell and Berrett. Surprised at Noble and Chantler in particular, two of the best players we have had in recent times.

Also professional deals offered to Brough and Dempsey who were youth players.

Sunderland not only complete the great escape, but have now won 4 games in a row, and have 13 points from 15 and can now finish as high as 12th. Amazing end to the season.

Since Poyet took over, Sunderland have been really good. They hit a form patch at exactly the right time. Be interesting to see what happens in the summer, with who you buy. Don't think you'll be having Borini!

Be interesting to see who stays considering how many players are out of contract in the summer.

Norwich down then, can't say it is not deserved frankly. They sacked Hughton at a weird time - it'll be good to have the East Anglian derby back next season though. :D

To be honest it wouldn't do you a great deal of harm to re-build completely. Expect next season you'll flirt with relegation again, but think in the future you'll become a solid Premier League side again.

Thought Norwich would progress this season, but they've not hit form at all. Wonder what Wolfswinkel will do now.. surely got to go down as one of the biggest top flight flops. He needs to re-build his confidence. If Norwich keep Adams in charge, and keep the likes of Snodgrass, Hooper and Redmond then they'll come back up easily.

Those three would score for fun. Think they may "do a QPR" and gamble on coming back up before parachute payments stop.

I don't think Snodgrass will remain at Norwich - can see him joining a team like Sunderland. I'm rather happy with the three teams being relegated especially Cardiff. I think had Mackay still been in charge of Cardiff they would have managed to survive in the premier league this year.

I'm surprised that Gary Monk is being appointed as the next Swansea manager. It wouldn't surprise me if Swansea are in the relegation battle for the next couple of years now.

Swansea seem to be willing to invest. They've got the foundation of a strong team and I think they'll be fine if Bony stays.
