She is getting a fair bit of promo, this whole pop emergency thing, banners on YouTube, iTunes etc, I heard it 3 time today on the radio whilst out and about and word of mouth.

I cant see the video having much of an impact it didn't work for BTW or its follow up.

The fact that its falling all around the world is the worry and for it not to even top the two biggest music markets and fan bases.

The whole twitter thing is a joke, just because she has that amount of followers does not mean they are all fans are are going to buy her music.

Like everyone has been saying the Gaga hype is over, she has stunned and shocked us all now, her antics are nothing new.

The thing is, I think Applause is her best track by far since Bad Romance.

Maybe 2013 is just the Year of Bad Taste (thank god for Ant and Dec that week though).

Also, THIS Drake song gets top 10 whilst Started From the Bottom didn't?? It's Ellie Goulding Burn/ Anything Coud Happen all owa again.

I'm delighted that any Drake song is top 10! :D Started From the Bottom is a lot less commercial, so I would expect this to do better.

Nice to see Drake back in the iTunes T10 though, wonder if people are just jumping at any decent hip-hop/rap music after all the dance music in the charts this year (likewise with Arctic Monkeys).

Well, there's been way more hip hop in the chart in 2013 than there has been in the past few years (maybe since 2007). It's not like there's been a lack of it. We were discussing this a few months ago, but it seems like in 2013 actual genres have come back, and pop has declined.

I don't really understand why this Drake song is doing better. I suspect Capital has been playing it, that's the only reason I can think of. It is quite commercial, but so were many of his other singles which did nothing in the charts.

You know I wasn't going to reply to yours or Hayzayy's posts because you both have just been trolling Gaga since 'Applause' was released, but if Gaga is over and 'Applause' does flop like you guys keep insisting you have my permission to say 'I TOLD YOU SO'.

Its under performing by expectations of her monsters. Its her monsters who said its going smash the charts.

But yes, lets wait and see...

89. Fashion Killa - A$AP Rocky

When did this happen :o!? I stopped checking how it was doing when it failed to crack the top 200 again but brilliant to see it has shot up now.

Even if GaGa's right and she is over and a flop, I still love the song.

I'm not sure why Gaga fans think the video will have some sort of big impact? Let's face it if you are aged between 15 and 35 you have heard Applause already (or you have been living under a rock without internet for the last few days) and it seems like the general public are saying no thanks.
The Lady Gaga chat is getting boring now. She's blown her chances of #1 so let's look ahead to other songs getting released in the next few weeks.

I think the video will have a big impact, since it did for Born This Way, Judas and The Edge of Glory.

Born This Way: 3-3-8-4-4-7-10

Judas: 14-9-23-20-11-8-9

The Edge of Glory: 6-6-18-23-28-16-8-7

The latter two dropped out the top 20 then re-entered the top 10 after their music video, and Born This Way climbed 8-4.

Precisely. EXTINGUISH THESE LOONS PLZ

Sonnentanz pre-order at #56 - i'm hoping it can somehow get near the top 40 over the next 2 days

"What is the highest a song has gotten on pre-orders before?"

But even in those cases, none of them except 'Judas' actually hit a new peak after the video like some people are expecting to happen this time, they just arrested their slides or just caused them to rebound.

Plus, videos generally seem to be having very little effect thesedays... even for such a traditionally huge video artist like Rihanna, I think the release of the 'Stay' video barely had any impact on the song's sales (in the UK atleast).

I think music videos have less impact these days because TV channels are more than happy to just play lyric videos, so it's not like a video release marks a song's music channel debut any more. Look at 'Get Lucky' being #1 on TV airplay for a few weeks without even having a video.

I'm sure you've asked this question before? But in the singles chart Wake Me Up got #8 or #9 I think.

Yeah, I'd still call that a "big effect" though, since as you said, most of the time I hardly see any boost from a music video at all, or just a boost for a couple of days after the premiere. Lady Gaga seems to be one of the people that benefit the most.
