Posted August 23, 201311 yr It's OFFICIAL. Ben Affleck has been announced as the next Batman and will first star as the dark knight character in the 'Superman vs. Batman' film. http://movies.mxdwn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/ben-affleck.jpg The actor will replace Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne in the upcoming untitled Batman-Superman feature for Warner Bros., the studio announced Thursday. Affleck becomes the eighth actor to play the Caped Crusader, following Bale, George Clooney and Michael Keaton. “We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular Super Heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some,” WB president Greg Silverman said in a statement. Directed by “Man of Steel” filmmaker Zack Snyder, the Batman-Superman feature will open worldwide on July 17, 2015, with Henry Cavill, Amy Adams and Diane Lane reprising their roles. “Man of Steel,” released this past June, has earned over $650 million at the global box office. “Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne,” Snyder said in a statement. “I can’t wait to work with him.” The announcement of a Batman-Superman film was revealed last month at Comic-Con to much excitement of fanboys, who will surely be watching as the studio begins to assemble its Justice League. The irony of Thursday’s news is that at one point Warner Bros. was interested in having Affleck direct the “Justice League” movie and his participation in this film will now spur interest if whether his casting means a possibility of directing that film. The Boston native recently upped his Hollywood power when he won the Best Picture Oscar for “Argo.” Affleck, repped by WME, can be seen next in Fox and New Regency’s thriller “Runner Runner.”What are your guys thoughts on this? Will he make a good or bad Batman? Is everyone jumping the gun too soon? Who would make a better Batman? Or do you think they should have gone with someone more unknown?
August 23, 201311 yr There seems to be quite an unhappy bunch across the internet, but I'm a fan of the Affleck. SOLID CHOICE. Zack Snyder and this film even existing however...
August 23, 201311 yr This film will either be extremely fabulous or utterly rotten. But seeing as it involves Superman, more than likely the latter. Affleck though is a good call for a brooding Bruce Wayne, although I can't imagine him bettering Christian Bale's rather dead-eyed portrayal. <3
August 23, 201311 yr 2015 is already looking like an absolute MONSTER year for films: Star Wars Episode VII Jurassic Park IV Fantastic Four The Avengers: Age of Ultron Terminator 5 Pirates of The Caribbean 5 James Bond 24 The Hunger Games: MockingJay Part 2 Finding Dory Batman & Superman Yikes. As for this one, I'm skeptical. The Dark Knight trilogy was so flawless and Christian Bale was excellent. I love how Batman was unlike any other superhero, it made the film's dark feel and more 'realistic' (if you can call it that) feel seem really refreshing. I dunno what bringing Superman in would do, but I'll see.
August 23, 201311 yr Ben Affleck is an awful choice. Big name sure and an ok actor but whilst he might be ok as Bruce's public persona he won't cut it for the inner turmoil. I can see this being more Clooney than Bale already. Batman is supposed to be dark, brooding and terrifying to his enemies. I was already out off by Superman being involved and this means I probably won't bother unless I hear unexpectedly good reviews. His previous superhero role is Daredevil and that's one of the worst films ever made
August 23, 201311 yr hmmm... just not too sure about Ben Afleck already has notched up a marvel film Daredevil as mentioned above. I would have fancied Johnny Depp for some reason in the role for Batman
August 23, 201311 yr 2015 is already looking like an absolute MONSTER year for films: Star Wars Episode VII Jurassic Park IV Fantastic Four The Avengers: Age of Ultron Terminator 5 Pirates of The Caribbean 5 James Bond 24 The Hunger Games: MockingJay Part 2 Finding Dory Batman & Superman Not too sure about the Terminator series, I thought that was canned There is also Mission Impoosible 5, Avatar 2 and The Man From UNCLE (movie) for 2015
August 23, 201311 yr Author Johnny Depp? Really? Also 'Daredevil' was 10 years ago, Ben's a completely different (i.e. better) actor now to what he was back then, but I agree with you on the whole Severin. As Bruce Wayne's public persona, Ben's pretty much a perfect casting choice, but as Batman himself? I'm struggling to come round to that idea. But I am always asking friends and colleagues who we thought would make a good Batman, but because Christian Bale got it as perfectly crafted as he did, it's hard to imagine anyone else as Batman (much like RDJr as Iron Man and Hugh Jackman as The Wolverine). Rumour is that Ryan Gosling & Josh Brolin were two other actors interested in having the role. Gosling is very much identical to Affleck, in the sense as he'd make a good Bruce, but Batman? Nah. Josh Brolin would probably be a better choice on the whole, but I'd still have doubt about him.
August 23, 201311 yr He's too old now and pretty much forgotten but I'd like to have seen Michael Biehn in the role
August 31, 201311 yr I posted this on another forum and i think i bring up some good points: People need to get out of this narrowmindedness about Ben, Yes he was Daredevil but HE wasnt the reason that film was bad it was the writing..Your actor is as only as good as the script. If you hate him in that movie so much just forget that that movie ever existed and C'MON that was 10 YEARS AGO. He has grown as an actor since then, lets see what movie won best picture last year at the oscars??? ARGO who directed it and starred in it BEN AFFLECK! Also to the people who are worried that he is a 'terrible actor' and cant get passed that mindset I would advise you to watch: The Town, Argo, Changing Lanes and Hollywood Town. If you have seen these films and still hate him and think he is terrible, then I'm sorry you clearly have no clue. I have felt ever since Ben has stood behind the lens he has improved so much in front of it.. Besides I was not shocked when this news broke...WB are in the Ben Buisness and have been for a while...He won best picture for them with Argo and then he made them alot of money with The Town and they are also distributing his next directed film 'Live By Night'. I even bet they have him now on lock now to distribute his own directed films as well. Also it brings up the whole Justice League rumour that we heard along time ago, about him directing it... Sounds like to me they have had him locked in for this along time ago and he has probably been Batman for a while, at least from comic con. Especially when they announced they where doing Batman Vs Superman I personally think they have known for at least 6 months. I personally also think that he might go ahead and direct Justice League, Maybe not the next few Batman films but i bet he has his pulse on that, also people love working with him, Imagine if he does direct Justice League what actors would be attracted to this because he is apart of it? Ben can clearly act...Directors that he has worked with in the past loved working with him ..also he knows the film business. I personally think he is a great actor. As much as I disliked Daredevil because of the script, the fight scenes where to me pretty damn good. I personally feel that he was the best actor thrown out there from all the contenders that where rumoured to play Batman. I think that whoever WAS cast as Batman would have received backlash, Considering what Christian Bale did to the character. People seem to be forgetting that Ben Affleck's Batman is going to be COMPLETELY different from Bale's, people just need to deal with that. Also another point is when Heath Ledger was cast as The Joker or Daniel Craig was cast as Bond everyone was putting them down and now look how that turned out now.
September 2, 201311 yr If you have seen these films and still hate him and think he is terrible, then I'm sorry you clearly have no clue. ...or they simply do not subscribe to your opinion on the matter of Ben Affleck. Get over it.
September 2, 201311 yr Ben Affleck isn't a terrible actor but he's a terrible choide for the role of Batman. It's asking like Johnny Depp to play Rambo. Just a really bad fit (unless you want to go back to the Schumacher style)
