Jade Blue and Frequency representing in N DNTN

We'd like to thank our sponsors Dulux for the preview in the last post. That oh so subtle hint is now sussed as we can confirm our latest entry is a track by London producer Jade Blue and York producers Frequency, entitled 'Lately' (specifically the 'Vox Mix' of said song). The track piggybacks off the same general style of recent BJSC top 10 hit 'Untrue' by Tchami as well as Oliver Heldens' UK #1 and former BJSC entry 'Gecko' (sans Becky Hill and 'Overdrive') and also sports a little vocal sample from the XYconstant remix of Disclosure & AlunaGeorge's megahit 'White Noise'. It's not cheap if they aren't credited though! The track sees Persephonia return to Black Butter Records who were also responsible for not only Persephonia's former vaguely big hit 'Vehl' by Kidnap Kid but also launching the careers of the likes of Rudimental and Jess Glynne.

Here's the song. Hope y'all like it.

Jade Blue and Fre"q"uency help Persephonia break a national record

It was announced today that Persephonia's latest BuzzJack Song Contest entry, 'Lately' (Vox Mix) by Jade Blue and Frequency, has qualified for the final of BJSC LXVI in N DNTN. It marks the seventh time in a row that Persephonia have made the final, the longest streak ever achieved by our country excluding the run of eleven which spanned the One Big Final era.

The qualification has come despite negative predictions from Séyetana and Bignia-Zaragovina who are currently being smited by the almighty Allah for unrelated reasons.

i think this is my favourite persephonian entry to date <3

I was hoping you'd be on board this month :D Incidentally 'Lost You' is probably my 2nd favourite of your entries to date (it's gonna be pretty hard to beat 'Gotham' but this comes close).

Absolutely loved it

I've been reliably informed that my next entrant is yet ANOTHER of your potentials. So just popping in here to let you know I'm not intentionally "copying" you.

'Lately' provides fourth 23rd-24th place finish in 5 contests

It's a very familiar story by now as Persephonia finish 24th in BJSC LXVI, hosted in 130, N DNTN. Our country's inability to gain new unique final positions stretches on for another month as this is our fifth 24th-place finish, following previous entries by Kid Sister, The Rapture, Spor and most recently Paris XY.

'Lately' (Vox Mix) by Jade Blue and Frequency didn't totally embarrass itself though as it was hardly predicted to do well, even being named as a last-place contender by unbelieving neighbours Séyetana. We were also pleasantly surprised to receive a pair of maximum scores of 12, from Elëdan and Quintessa, as well as top 3 finishes in the votes from Mdiče (10 points), Ethanola and Varakë (8 points each). 15 countries in total voted for the song giving it a total score of 82. Thanks to all ~

Notably Persephonia also pulled off a 12 swap for a second month in a row - after we exchanged top scores with Skall last month, the same happened tonight with Elëdan. The Skall love however fell flat today as 0 points were exchanged this time despite both of us qualifying for the final again.

Final results commentary + Persephonia's televote results

Aeroche's crazy run of success seemed to hit a brick wall last month but they came back in the biggest way possible today picking up a fifth win with A. G. Cook's 'Beautiful' which pulled in a spectacular 206 points, the highest points total ever achieved by the nation, beating even the 198 achieved by Tchami's 'Untrue' under the 18 point system (their previous best under the 12 point system was 190 for Trust's 'Sulk' which won BJSC XLVII).

Aeroche were of course no stranger to the top of the leaderboard but it was otherwise a very fresh top 5. The 2nd to 4th placed countries all made the top 5 (2 of them the top 10) for the first time. Jamvale's previous best was just 22nd place with 'Waiting For You' by Kris Menace feat. Black Hills. This time they put in a very strong challenge for the win but ultimately settled for 2nd with a still very impressive 196 points with latest entry 'Shatter Me' by Lindsey Stirling feat. Lzzy Hale. Ethanola conclusively beat their previous best of 14th with a 3rd place finish for Zeds Dead's 'Lost You' (feat. Twin Shadow and D'Angelo Lacy) taking 187 points. Oslol improved their best finish from 9th to 4th with Dami Im's 'Super Love' scoring 163 points. Completing the top 5 were Allecian who have a few high finishes to their name but are, especially recently, not exactly consistent high hitters. Their entry, 'Armenian Girl' by Lilit Hovhannisyan, was heavily fancied for a win but ultimately came 5th with 158 points.

There was also a third country making the top 10 for the first time - Yehesi coming 7th with Watermät's 'Bullit'. The rest of the top 10 were the entries from Trifoski (Anamanaguchi's 'Prom Night' (feat. Bianca Raquel) 6th), Séyetana (Charisma.com's 'Iinadukeblue' 8th), Fljótavík (Sailor & I's 'Turn Around' 9th) and hosts N DNTN (Mainline Mussy's 'Sick Of Your Eyes' 10th). Séyetana have had a turnaround from their long-standing inability to qualify more than once in a row as this marks a third straight top 10 finish.

The contest's only debuting country got off to a fairly good start. Terra di Campioni's maiden offering 'The Lucky Ones' by Kerli finished 19th. No other countries not already mentioned reached new peaks. Returning countries that qualified for the final were Farahtyn and Ojnoj who finished 22nd and 27th respectively with comeback entries 'Too Cool To Dance' (Eden xo) and 'Hurricane' (Chassio).

Previously unmentioned Jubirdia country results: Bellamia finished 12th with Amanda Blush for a second time, this time with her solo song 'Give It All'; Skall also recycled one of their own acts (Air France) and came 14th with their Roos collaboration 'GBG Belongs To Us'; Bignia-Zaragovina recycled... one of Ramrynia's (and Bellamia's) artists (Kristina Maria) and came 15th with her song 'Where The Sun Don't Shine' (feat. ARG=NTO); Hendinia were inspired and didn't recycle, sending Violet Days' 'Razorheart' which came 16th; Daehun came 18th with 'Catallena' by Orange Caramel (also recycled); semi-surprise qualifier 'Jasmine' by (the recycled!!1!) Jai Paul came 26th for D'yermak'er; Ramrynia with the shockingly non-recycled EVVY came 31st with 'Haze'.

Wooden spoon of the month went to Kluminican Republic who finished 32nd out of 32 with the MS MR remix of 'Starting Fires' by Invader Girl, taking in 43 points (4 fewer than 'Haze').

Persephonian News Bulletin ~ 09/08/2014

48 contests later, 'Cry For Freedom' finally lands in BJSC for Persephonia

Way back in BJSC XIX the nation now known as Persephonia, then Egabbac, mulled over their options for what song to send to their debut appearance in the BuzzJack Song Contest. Eventually our entry was 'Ghosts 'N' Stuff' by deadmau5 featuring Rob Swire, which went on to fail to qualify (though it did become a hit in the UK official chart). One of the other potential entries was a then new track by Asian-American drum n bass producers Jay Dabhi and (Dominican Republic born) Moises Modesto called 'Cry For Freedom'.

The track was dropped from the potentials list of the country for a while but has intermittently been brought back up since, with the constant possibility it'd eventually represent the nation. It even went as far as actually being confirmed a few months back before being changed mid-contest. But now, BJSC LXVII, is the time, as 'Cry For Freedom' finally becomes a BJSC entry 48 contests after first being considered.

The decision to send the track comes as the situation in Israel and Palestine (which inspired the original song) has become increasingly bleak. It was also influenced by a lack of newer songs that significantly appealed to the Persephonian BJSC Committee.

So, was the wait worth it? It's going to be a tough one as the 67th contest, hosted in Aeroche, Bellamia and Jayrusalem, has had the largest turnout ever with an enormous 62 entries meaning a top half finish in the semi-final will be required to make the grand finale. 'Cry For Freedom' is in semi-final 1 (hosted in Bellamia). We would appreciate it even more than ever for you to throw a few points our way this month ~ Have a listen to the track below if you so wish.

(yes that's a disproportionately detailed write up for 'here's our song lol' especially when it'll likely DNQ but this is kind of a special!!1! song for me so don't curr)

Persephonian News Bulletin ~ 16/08/2014

Jay & Moises qualify to secure Persephonia the qualification streak RECORD *.*

There's more good news on the Persephonian qualification streak front as our entry to BJSC LXVII, 'Cry For Freedom' by Jay Dabhi and Moises Modesto, has given us an eighth consecutive qualifier. That extends our record legitimate streak and edges another month closer to the streak of 11 final appearances across the One Big Final era.

More pertinently however, this qualification along with the news that Altyr Muunilinst and Ramrynia failed to qualify means that Persephonia unbelievably move to number one in the list of longest active qualification streaks! Altyr were chasing a 15th and Ramrynia a 10th qualification in a row but their entries fell short so our 8th in a row is currently unbeaten and only matched by bordering nation Daehun and another continent mate N DNTN who also each secured their 8th straight final appearances.

Against our expectations 'Cry For Freedom' has actually been named as a possible contender for the win - we shall remain sceptical but we have decent hopes that we may at least get a fifth top 10 finish.

same here. this song needs to be another big Persephit for you, it won't be another 23rd placer anyway

Persephonian News Bulletin ~ 26/08/2014

It was worth the wait - Jay Dabhi and Moises Modesto achieve a Persephonian WINRAR!

When we finally decided to send Jay Dabhi and Moises Modesto's 'Cry For Freedom' (see the second-to-last bulletin update for a full backstory) we were initially worried that the track might fail to even make the final of BJSC LXVII, hosted in Aeroche, Bellamia and Jayrusalem. Such fears were completely unfounded as the song finally brings Persephonia a ~super emotional~ win on our 46th attempt (meaning we break the record for most entries before a debut win, previously held by Botanikka).

UPDATE: The win also makes Persephonia the first country to ever win the contest with an instrumental, the previous best being 2nd for Gesaffelstein's 'Hate Or Glory' (and possibly others). Not bad going.

Early predictions for the song placed it as a contender against our expectations, but as the contest went by the odds began to lengthen and in the end the result was rather a surprise, especially given that the favourite to win - Florina's entry 'Circles' by Vanic and machineheart - led more or less from the start of the vote reveal and had amassed a seemingly unbeatable lead. However, the super tense final vote reveal from Cumulonimbia pushed Jay and Moises into the lead at the very last second (in the supposedly random order of vote revealing). The track took in 218 points, 9 more than the previous national record of 209 achieved by Kids Of The Apocalypse's 'EMPIRE' when it finished 2nd in BJSC LXI. It beat Florina's entry by a nailbitingly close margin of two points.

We are utterly thrilled to have finally won the contest after years of entries and previous close calls with songs that would have won in nearly any other contest had they not run into the behemoths of Belanger and Indila. It is an especially emotional victory as the song is a true classic in Persephonia, one of the public's favourite drum n bass recordings of all time. (The Persephonian BJSC Committee notes that our two most successful entries are now both drum n bass songs - this information may influence future entry decisions, or it may not).

Among the 218 points were three top scores of 12 (from Cadelicia, Quintessa and Terra Avium) and an incredible eight sets of 10 points (from Aquafina, Bignia-Zaragovina, Botanikka, Danaelanda, Ethanola, Skall, Tinnmark and Zechonia). 5 more countries awarded the song 8 points (Espen, FSR Rontvia, Jamvale, Séyetana and Syndare) and in all 33 of the 56 voting countries awarded the song at least one point. This is one more voter than our previous record of 32 also set by 'EMPIRE'. Oddly enough though, the song did not win its semi-final - our two final 2nd placers by Jaymes Young and Kids Of The Apocalypse both achieved a semi-final win but 'Cry For Freedom' settled for a distant 2nd in semi-final 1, behind eventual 3rd placer (and Persephonia's favourite song) 'Destroy Me' by Mr.Kitty representing Elëdan.

Watch out in the BJSC forum for imminent news of BJSC LXVIII, which will be coming to you LIVE from Persephonia's glorious capital of Carellis as we officially earn hosting rights for the first time ever :o

Final results commentary + Persephonia's televote results

The top 2 is discussed in detail above - but to quickly recap our own entry 'Cry For Freedom' by Jay Dabhi and Moises Modesto achieved a hard-fought victory with 218 points, ahead of Florina's 'Circles' by Vanic and machineheart which finished 2nd with 216 points. Both are new peaks for the countries involved, 'Circles' being Florina's 2nd top 10 hit and beating the #10 finish of Halsey's 'New Americana'. As mentioned above Elëdan finished 3rd with Mr.Kitty's 'Destroy Me', rather far adrift from the top 2 with a total of 167 points. The top 5 was completed by Trifoski entry 'Sunlight' by The Magician feat. Years & Years (4th with 161 points) and 3LAU's 'How You Love Me' (feat. Bright Lights) which earned Jayrusalem a second top 10 and like Florina a new peak of 5th place (previous best of 9th), earning 145 points.

Cumulonimbia made the top 10 for the first time with Lovelife's 'Dying To Start Again' finishing 6th to smash their previous best of 19th. Umiiruka have a poor run to say the least in the last couple of years, with 11 of their last 12 entries failing to make the final. Their last qualifier made the top 10 however and they repeat the trick this time grabbing 8th place with VÉRITÉ's 'Strange Enough', their fifth top 10 in all. Hendinia and Aeroche came top 10 as usual, 7th and 9th with Agata Dziarmagowska's 'Drop, Drop' and Booka Shade's 'Love Inc' respectively. Finally Syndare completed the top 10 in 10th with 'Make A Stand' by Embody feat. Barnaby.

Two countries made their debut this month (Hushkanukia and Patvia) but neither managed to make the final. Three countries making a return to the contest after sitting out the last one made the final. One was Florina as already discussed. The other two were #00274E (12th with Panteros666's 'Baby F-16') and Terra Avium (23rd with 'I Didn't Believe' by Flight Facilities feat. Elizabeth Rose). Notably Botanikka also qualified after their last seven entries all failed; their latest, Elvana Gjata's 'Puthe', finished 16th.

The rest of the Jubirdia lot this month: Bignia-Zaragovina just missed the top 10, coming 11th with surprise hit 'Wide Awake' by Josh Record; Bellamia came very close to a second top 10 again but still not quite, coming 13th with Bean's 'Rollercoaster'; Sandebörg (new member BTW along with Desbuanda, Harmonica and new semi-member #00274E) somehow got as high as 18th with 3LOGY's terrible 'The Banjo' (feat. Susanne Louise); Daehun were 21st with BoA's latest flop entry 'MASAYUME CHASING' (she's made 4 finals but never the top 10); Skall were 28th with 'Allt Från Mig' by Lorentz.

Widely predicted wooden spoon Jamvale actually just avoided the 'honour' this month, with 32nd and last place instead going to Utopia's entry 'Colourblind' by Les Loups feat. Cybil. That track picked up 38 points, 2 fewer than the Jamvale autoqualifier, Moya's 'Earthbound' in 31st.

Now you've sat through all of that wordy stuff (or skipped through it to get to this part you actually might care about) here are the latest Persephonian televote results:

(I didn't realise you'd entered so many times, so I'm very pleased that you've finally won. )

As you know, I really loved this entry, probably the best thing you've ever sent. Couldn't think of a better song to be your first winner even though I loved Empire & Dark Star as well. Congrats!

Been exactly a year since Dark Star was denied by Take Me Home as well (and a personal best for you at the time I think?), thought you might like that little bit of symmetry :P
