October 11, 201312 yr People keep on about 2008 being a horrible period but actually when you look at the stats it tells a different story. Total Top 75 entries 2008 (487), 2012 (466), 2013 (350*) No of new entries in Top 75 per week 2008 (9.36), 2012 (9.14), 2013 (8.75*) There were just as many new entries, but they tended to enter lower and rise for a few weeks. I find that a lot more interesting than 1-7 being new entries and the rest of the Top 40 falling 7 places each. Exactly now they hold back new releases where once a month 5-7 new songs are released after being held back 8 weeks and all enter the top 15 with big bulk/preorder sales and fall much quicker than more stable singles. That doesn't make for a stable chart & IMO it's not fresh either because most of the releases for me have been played so much on radio I'm sick to death of them so much so that I think twice about buying them. Fresh for me is when songs like Ben Pearce appear in the top 40 and slowly rise up the chart without record companies taking control of their building popularity by holding them back for an artificial chart peak. The success of Counting Stars rise to no1 shows the potential earlier releases could have if record companies/radio stations want it to! Edited October 11, 201312 yr by steve201
October 11, 201312 yr It will be interesting to see where One Rep end up. Could give Eminem a challenge for the #2 this week. Hopefully manage to somehow knock him down :P Edited October 11, 201312 yr by *Rob*
October 11, 201312 yr I'm thinking OneRepublic could possibly increase sales yet again this week... Going 2-4-3-1-3 with increased sales each time is slightly strange! Yea must be around 50k so far?! Might be tough!
