Kinda self explanatory, which songs do you feel have been massively overrated in BJSC?

This topic is sponsored by me listening to the BJSCL comp I made last year and getting to EVA SIMONS and thinking "This won by a landslide? REALLY?"

In other (quite inappropriate to this thread) news, Frida Gold's 'Wovon Sollen Wir Träumen" really should have won. :(

Ronya – Hyperventilating

Ingermanlandia // Woodkid - Run Boy Run

Korallreven - Sa Sa Samo

Anything by Tone Damli.

Probably shouldn't say this in a Dandy*-created thread, but I still don't understand how 'Cerahtonia' won.

Oh I can assure you, I absolutely NEVER expected that to win in a million years! It was a last minute "oh I haven't got anything so this will do" kinda entry! :D

(Although don't take Foxes or VAULTS away from me!)

In terms of overrated tracks, first few that spring to mind that were sizeable hits: Moan, Two Men In Love, Ceratoniah, Some Die Young, Julia, Cold Nights, Supreme, Look Up. Plus most (but not all!) songs sent by Skall/N DNTN/Trifoski/Aeroche/Espen. This is almost definitley an unpopular opinion.

80% of these are amazing! (some Tone stuff is kinda rubbish)

Every Aeroche entry ever aside from 110%. Nothing against Leww obviously, and admittedly his winners do turn out to be the best of the rest in the long run, however most of them get praised to high heaven and lead to him doing well month on month when the majority of them aren't that special. It will probably be a very unusual month when Aeroche get points from me again.

Random Lewis attacks aside, Sa Sa Samoa, Julia, Shape, We Do What We Like, Perfect Form, New Colours, Jubel.. the list goes on and that's just from the top 10s of recent months - all fall easily into the realm of 'how are people liking this so much - what is there to like?'. King of them all is still the INFAMOUS I Love It - while as far as winners go I don't REALLY get why Supreme was so loved, even though it's nice, same for So High.

well from this year alone:-

Nicky Romero/Nervo - Like Home

Rivaz - Colors

Zara Larsson - Uncover

John De Sohn - Dance Our Tears Away

tydi ft. Kerli - Something About You

Alida - Some of Us

sorry not sorry x

Ronya – Hyperventilating

This is actually the only winner I've LOVED since I joined. I liked Carli also and Kate Boy was decent, the rest have all been very overrated I think...

2 winners is better than none x

Never! Love those two tracks.

Zara Larsson - Uncover

John De Sohn - Dance Our Tears Away

Oh, these two, yes. 'Uncover' I sort of like, but it winning was a bit odd. And though I understand that 'Dance Our Tears Away' is just not my sort of thing, I was still baffled when it was doing so well in the results and everyone was so unsurprised!

I got parred.

Oh I forgot Zara, that's another good winner. :kink: Actually a bit of a shock winner for me, cause as much as I like it, it's not the kind of thing that I'd expect to have wide appeal in here. Not complaining though, fab song.

D'yermak'er in general (you knew this was coming Bal :heehee:) - I don't even DISLIKE them, it's just that other similar countries crop up in my votes all the time but D'yermak'er just don't. Both of their top 3s are decent at best and 'Slow Love' was pretty overrated too. 'Sirens' however was rather good, the only one of their entries I've ever voted for.

'Two Men In Love', 'Look Up', 'Pumpin Blood' and 'Bror', looking at this year's top 10 finishers, are the main songs that I didn't really get at all but I think probably 'should' have appealed to me in theory. There are plenty of other top 10s this year that I'd call overrated but that's more because they're songs that would never ever have appealed to me anyway (basically female pop songs - 'Dumb', 'Red Cup', 'Release You', 'Killer', 'Power', 'We Do What We Like', 'New Colours', 'Melodies'). Female pop singers named Nikki seem to be immune as I really like both 'Glowing' and 'Little Nikki Says'.

Too lazy to look back before this year.

From since my first contest, definitely Vaults (soz Dands :().
SHEELAH. Can't believe they won... twice.

YESSSSS

They are SO SHIT too.

+ ANNA ABREU! omg VOMVOMVOM

So many songs but more than ever this year, so many nondescript songs that lack in melody seem to pick up steam every month and do well recently when they'd have rightfully crashed out in the semis a couple of years ago for being completely forgettable.

Historically I could come up with literally 100 examples but I do agree with Silly Boy as the ULTIMATE overrated entry, it would be lucky to come low top 20 in the final now, I'm not sure how it managed such a triumphant landslide, even though it was clearly on the cards at the time...how things change!

The only winner that has completely passed me by this year is So High, it's registered 8 plays on my iTunes and I couldn't tell you how it goes. Given The Chance is gorgeous though so no shade to Trifoski!

Something being overrated/underrated is completely subjective though really, I thought about starting an underrated tracks companion thread but everybody would just mention their 12/10 pointers that nobody else voted for. But Headhunted/Spin My World deserved better than they got, let's face it.

Caerfyrddia // Ólafur Arnalds; Arnór Dan - So Close

Isconia // The Irrepressibles - Two Men in Love

FSR Rontvia // Delta Goodrem - Hunters And The Wolves

Ingermanlandia // Woodkid - Run Boy Run (it's not bad, it's just ridiculously overrated)

plus anything by Tone Damli
