It's very strong on first listen. Quite a strange listen because a few songs sound as if they were lifted from The Fame whilst others show real progression, such as Gypsy and Do What U Want.

It just appeals to my tastes perfectly, I found it to be a real return to form whilst others see it as some limp non-event. Each to their own I guess!

Aura (those verses though), Sexxx Dreams, Do What U Want and Artpop are all *.* moments, aren't they?

 

You can get rid of the rest.

I love Applause too.

 

Sometimes I hear why people say it's crap - the nasal singing, etc, but it's my fave single of the year with Roar second.

'Applause' would be a worthy song if it actually had a decent chorus. It just falls flat.

My only complaint is that i feel she could have made "Swine" a lot better then the final product.

Nice enough, some songs sound like growers. Not enjoying some pictures in the booklet and her talking on the DVD (75 minutes for 8 songs..?)

So I finally got around to listening to the whole thing.

 

Applause is still amazing. I put it on the other day when friends were round and they like rock, etc, and don't even like GaGa and everyone was moving to it and commenting how it's a catchy song. I don't understand how it flopped.

09 | Sexx Dreams The verses sound so much better now but the chorus has been made worse. So it now gets a nine instead of a ten.

07 | Jewels N Drugs - This might actually work as a single...

06 | Manicure Never been a big fan of it and sounds a little samey within the album

09 | Do What U Want - A really solid pop song, one of the highlights but the review of this, GaGa talking about fame and then is interrupted by a man singing about his penis who appears not to have bothered to listen to the song, is hilarious.

07 | Artpop - Sounded better live. It lacks a bit of emotion in the studio version.

09 | Swine - One of the highlights, though it was better at the festival again.

04 | Donatella These three are very samey and add nothing to the album. Can be quite grating to listen to and drag the album down.

05 | Fashion

06| Mary Jane Holland

07 | Dope - A nice ballad and change of pace from all the electro.

11 | Gypsy - This should have been the first single, giving us a new defining GaGa hit as someone said on here.

10 | Applause - Still really good. I don't get why people didn't take to it.

 

There is no art in this pop art and the theme has been done before properly by bands like the Who etc which tried to emulate art and art theories in their music. GaGa hasn't done this - this is just a pop album.

 

I copied Air's rating to copy/ paste the names of the songs and found myself wanting to put down nearly the exact same scores for a lot of the songs!

After the first 4 (or 5 at a push) tracks i was positively HYPED. take out the boring middle section and Manicure and you have something pretty great. not quite up to fulfilling that promise yet tho haussss.
