ITV has bagged the rights to Israeli talent show Rising Star, which is expected to be a new rival for The X Factor and The Voice UK.

A huge hit in Israel, the show allows viewers and judges to vote in real time via an app and the studio audience only get to see the act if 70% of the viewers support the performers.

Produced by Keshet, the company behind the drama Prisoners of War (the original Homeland), the format has been sold around the world.

The show is expected to launch in the UK in January 2015, replacing Dancing on Ice in the New Year Sunday night slots.

ITV's new signing coincides with the broadcaster's renewed deal with Simon Cowell for three more series of The X Factor and Britain's Got Talent.

What do you guys think of this? Do we really need another talent competition? I like the new aspects of it, it'll be nice to see the percentage of people who like an act - but I can't see it being much bigger than The Voice, I'll wait before I know the whole format of the show and having seen some of it before I judge it properly though.

Not another reality show this is practically going up against the Voice, mind you the Voice is on a Saturday, that's if the Voice gets re-newed for 2015.

Not sure about the format of the new show though

Shame this isn't on C4 or C5 so that someone else had a reality contest, now ITV is gonna have like January-April as Rising Star May-July as BGT and August-December as X Factor.
Another one? I think we need like a year or two break from all the reality tv talent shows, especially singing ones.

Sounds a bit pointless, people aren't watching X-Factor like they used to and they aren't taking to The Voice still, so I can't see how this would be any different.
I wouldn't mind a new singing show if it focused on them writing and performing some of their own songs a bit like Fame Academy back in the day, but if its on Itv it'll probably be the same old shit.

This is no longer going ahead now due to it's poor performance across the world. Oops.

what did they expect from a show which basically does the same job as The Voice/X Factor?

X Factor is the best singing contest, there's no point in making another 2nd rate version of it.

I watched a couple of episodes of the US version and it didn't really grab me so I'm not disappointed here or anything. It would have interesting to see who were the judges though if nothing else, Ke$ha for example was an interesting choice for the Us.
