19. Passenger - Let Her Go

20. Lily Allen - Hard Out Here

As we kick off the top 20, here is my justification of why both of these songs are actually rather good.

'Hard Out Here' is all that the Lily Allen comeback should have been. Satirrical (not so)undertones delivered with mockney attitude.

'Let Her Go' is a sweet folksy song about love and loss with a unique but at the same time charming vocal.

These be my views. I make no appologies.

Lily Allen  She can genuinely do no wrong.

SMASHENGER :w00t: Where's Ball when you need him?!?!?!

17. Katy Perry - Unconditionally

18. Lady GaGa - Sexxx Dreams

KATYS AND GAGAS SHOULDN'T FIGHT! These 2 tracks from both leading ladies are much celebrated from both of their recent hit albums. One is a pulsating retro jam about a woman making a booty call on a gay man and the other is a sorrowfull power ballad with terrible pronunciation lamenting over her ex-husband (#TeamRussell).

15. VV Brown - Ghosts

16. Tone Damli & Erik Segerstedt - Hello, Goodbye

Snatching the title of 'best MF track 2013' is Erik & Tone's postmodern acousti-pop happiness of 'Hello, Goodbye', a song about kicking a one night stand out of bed. Oh god I love romance.

And finally, the only remotely obscure track in the top 20, 'Ghosts'. This to me is what nu VV is about in all her 'Grace Jones meets Kate Bush in 2013' glory.

Oh good thing i never visited this STANK place for a while as i got to skip past THAT at #19. Love the Katy/Gaga/Lily singles (obviously).

And 'Ghosts' is stunning. Can't believe i ignored it slightly but it will forever be known as lex-approved SWAG album track now~~~

13. Lorde - Royals

14. Emmelie De Forest - Only Teardrops

Obligatory appearence of this years ESC winner at number 14. With a degree of distance from it now, I hereby declare it a worthy but not spectacular victory. Unfortunately three of the four preceeding winners were among the best ESC winners of all time (Fairytale, Satelite and last year's LexC #1 Euphoria). But having said that, if this song is what stopped Azerbaijan winning, then I'm all for it.

I will also admit to being a 'Royals' convert. It completely passed me by in bjsc in february but hearing it again 6 months later, the majic happened (This is the last Bray appeasing setiment in this EOY chart).

11. Samantha Jade - What You've Done To Me

12. Lady GaGa - Gypsy

For the love of god GaGa, release 'Gypsy' as the next single from ARTPOP. And while you're at it, re-issue the album with 'Gypsy' as the final track. Yes it may be Edge of Glory 2.0 but it is still a bone fide *.* MOMENT

And cruely denied a spot in the top 10 is everything an X Factor winner's single SHOULD be. Powerful, emotional and catchy as f***. Undoubtedly my favourite bjsc song of 2013.

Ladies and Gentleman, we are now entering the top 10. Keep your hands and elbows inside the vehicle at all times.

10. Bon Jovi - Because We Can

I feel like I should explain this oddity in a sea of pop. Bon Jovi are my ultimate musical guilty pleasure, chiefly because their music to me is always associated with my family and happy times we've spent together. In a 'review of the year' kind of mindframe and avoiding specifics, during 2013 there's been something going on that was threatening to tear my family apart (that fortunately nothing came of and is now resolved). Add to that the big 'happy clappy come together' chorus of this song and you're onto a winner. Yes, objectively this song should struggle to hold its own in a 'best of 2013' list but music, to me, is never about objectivity. It's the memories and associations I have around this song that make it my 10th best song of 2013.

9. Kelly Sweet - Ashes Of My Paradise

Gather round children. It's story time! Once upon a time, a little boy wanted to send a really good and heartfelt song to an online song contest. However, a bunch of other silly people tried to steal that song. So that meant the little boy didn't win that online song contest and lead to a whole year of flopping in that contest including an infamous 'Scruvovnian' episode.

Leaving aside that completely ficticious story, this song will go down as a 'forgotten classic' in years to come. Emotional, catchy and profound. A well deserved EOY #9

OMG that comment. Keep it clean~

SO MUCH LOVE. Seriously one of the songs of the year, glad you recognised it too. And the video  Too much perfection, it's true, it's true <3

8. Miley Cyrus - We Can't Stop

Yes, no review of pop culture in 2013 is really complete without at least a passing reference to Miley Cyrus. Yes she's a try-hard, irritating slag but goddammit she WORKS that try-hard irritating slag REALNESS. More on Miley Cyrus's reputation later in this countdown~

7. John Newman - Love Me Again.

2013 was the year of the 'smash hit single followed by dire follow up' syndrome. See Robin Thicke, Daft Punk, Passenger and this guy, John Newman. Off those smash hits though, Newman stands high above the others. Fusing together both retro and modern pop vibez~~ 'Love Me Again' is one of a shockingly small number of 2013 top sellers that are LEXC APPROVED.

(P.S lets ignore Newman looning week shall we!)

6. Taylor Swift - 22

GUILTY PLEASURE ALERT. Yes the lyrics "It seems like a perfect night/To dress up like hipsters/And Make fun of Our exes" Is trashy and cheesy but this song is a budle of unadulterated JOY and FUN. Something that in these depreate times is sorely needed in all of our lives.

5. Katy B - 5AM

You know, I've got a lot of time for Katy B. Perhaps eternally destined to be the much maligned and neglected RnB female soloist of our age, she deserves a lot more recognition than she recieves. I shall return shortly with #4 after I've taken some loving like valium.

4. Margaret Berger - I Feed You My Love

In at number 4 is the best Eurovision 2013 song (hush Rob!). So much of this song, especially the live performance, just works. From the unidentifiable noise at the start, to Margarets fragile yet mysterious vocals, the harsh lighting and the dramatic hints of strings in the chorus. Norway UP *.*
