Welcome to the run-down of my favourite songs and albums of 2013. 30 albums / 200 songs to be precise (so i'll try and post in BULK whenever possible). Any comments good or bad are welcomed so do keep checking back and feel free to predict as it goes along. The only rules are that i must have discovered the song in 2013 or it must have got an official release in this year. Apart from that, free-for-all'ing it. It's going down so you've got to move like you want to move...

December 5, 201311 yr yays Autre Ne Veut ftw. and hopefully Paper Crows to maybe make an appearance somewhere <3
December 6, 201311 yr Author Don't run away, don't slip away sng_CdAAw8M 29. Rhye - Woman [5-7-10-14-15-17-18-20] 01. Open 02. The Fall 03. Last Dance 30. Demi Lovato - Demi [4-2-3-6-8-10-10-11-12-16-15-17-18-19-20-20] 01. Without The Love 02. Neon Lights 03. Really Don't Care (feat. Cher Lloyd) Starting with two polar opposites but both of which helped to pass many of those summer days. First up is the firestarting cracker from Demi which is full of massive pop bangers and some quite annoying ballads which never seem to reclaim her former special number. When it's fun it's FAB though and thankfully it manages to hold that for a fair part of the album. Bringing things crashing back down though is the subtle 10 track dream-like swirls of Rhye who leave it all Open and let the majestic sounds just flow. The opening track is an absolute beauty and will feature elsewhere in this countdown but the album as a whole is a mesmerising collection of dotty ballads and serene sounds.
December 6, 201311 yr "annoying" ballads? ^o) http://ebengregory.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/mariah-no.gif
December 6, 201311 yr Author Tonight, I don’t wanna be mysterious with you Oxls2xX0Clg 27. Janelle Monáe - The Electric Lady [4-3-4-5-6-11-16-16-19-19-...] 01. Primetime (feat. Miguel) 02. Q.U.E.E.N. (feat. Erykah Badu) 03. Dance Apocalyptic 28. Cody Simpson - Surfers Paradise [8-4-4-4-5-7-7-8-11-18] 01. If You Left Him For Me 02. Imma Be Cool (feat. Asher Roth) 03. Summertime of Our Lives Not quite #1 (sorry) but still making an appearance with his album/(moreEP) is youngstud Cody who manages to disregard all notions of punctuation and STILL be right with it as he takes us to Surfers Paradise. Slightly disappointed with the album looking back mainly because it didn't manage to match the peak of his former era (was always going to be hard!) but still a fun album nonetheless and definitely showing some progression in sound which can only mean even bigger and better things from the young one in the future. Cody coupled with one of THE most anticipated comebacks of the year delivered in exquisite style. To say i haven't returned to Janelle's album as much as i would have liked is an understatement which explains its fairly low placing here. An album that DEMANDS repeated listens but made impossible because 'Primetime' is just set to a loop for hours once heard. Brilliant singles, collabs and visuals from The Electric Lady, i think this might have just managed to surpass the debut.
December 6, 201311 yr The Archandroid> The Electric Lady, but both are amazing. ARTPOP for number 1 yes?
December 6, 201311 yr Author We ain't picture perfect but we worth the picture still IxxstCcJlsc 25. Zedd - Clarity [2-4-5-8-10-16-9-11-16-19] 01. Clarity (feat. Foxes) 02. Follow You Down (feat. Bright Lights) 03. Shave It Up 26. J Cole - Born Sinner [16-4-7-12-14-19] 01. Crooked Smile (feat. TLC) 02. Power Trip (feat. Miguel) 03. Forbidden Fruit (feat. Kendrick Lamar) Bringing the swag in the bucket-load. Having heard relentlessly about Born Sinner i decided to finally give it a listen and was thoroughly impressed by the vintage R&B sounds that contrasted pretty much every other big album released this year. Lyrically it's one of the best and though a bit of it hinges on the forgettable, it's one long mammoth trek filled with glorious highs (mainly the collabs mentioned above) and deep down dark moments. Huge in the US but not quite branching out of there just yet, it'll only be a matter of time before his crown locks on firmly. And turning it all up a notch (and not the first Zedd-esque album in the countdown) is the debut album from the pint-sized dj, Clarity, that manages to combine euphoric dance with ear-splitting instrumentals and whimsical vocals to create quite the power-house workout anthem-album of choice (sans the workouts).
December 6, 201311 yr Author think i took too much OBh8XS00x_w 23. Ciara - Ciara [6-3-3-2-2-2-4-6-8-14-17] 01. Livin' It Up (feat. Nicki Minaj) 02. I'm Out (feat. Nicki Minaj) 03. Overdose 24. Eminem - The Marshall Mathers LP 2 [3-3-5-7...] 01. Rap God 02. Love Game (feat. Kendrick Lamar) 03. Berzerk One of the biggest albums of the year and one of the most underserved flops. Eminem's LP 2 became his first album in perhaps a decade that i repeated with a lot of affection. Filled with the zany side of his personality and cutting/shady lyrics, it's Marshall at his absolute best (all 4 hours of it!). The pre-album singles and big smasher with Rihanna are testament to how much actually goes on in the album and if you can Survive it's epic run, it's well worth the experience. Secondly Ciara with her intensely original title manages to bring the hot funk with a touch of sass. Nothing quite comes close to the incredible 'Livin' It Up' which is bound to be big in the song countdown and while it unfortunately flounders pretty much everywhere that matters, i'll let it DUI high up here.
December 7, 201311 yr Author We sure know how to run things Pt1kc_FniKM 21. Hurts - Exile [5-3-3-4-2-4-5-6-8-10-12-12-14-17-17-18-20] 01. Blind 02. Somebody To Die For 03. Miracle 22. Lorde - Pure Heroine [4-4-4-4-6...] 01. Tennis Courts 02. Team 03. Royals Still not sure if i fully get Lorde but with Pure Heroine i can look past that and just enjoy. 'Royals' came close to really hitting me before withering slightly again, but thankfully the album is full of other wonders and two especially strong tracks that are sure to claim the throne next year around the world. And she's only 16!!1!6. Hurts returned with a strong rehash of their debut that while not quite matching the highs of their previous effort manages to remain strong throughout and pack a mean punch where it matters, in Exile. Currently riding high along Calvin's tail-coat but just missing the top 20 where it matters! Top 20 over the weekend. And a top 3 that is still to be ordered...
December 7, 201311 yr CODY TOO LOW  Must admit, it's not drawing me back as much as Paradise did but I think quality-wise it's a stronger album with less filler (and less tracks in general tbf). Yay for Demi and Ciara also
December 7, 201311 yr Author Say my name like a scripture F9S-88WxPdE 19. Katy Perry - Prism [4-1-2-5-6-9-14...] 01. Unconditionally 02. Dark Horse (feat. Juicy J) 03. Walking On Air 20. Arctic Monkeys - AM [6-6-6-8-11-14-17] 01. Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High? 02. Arabella 03. R U Mine? Sneaking into the top 20 is an album i wouldn't have even given the time of day had i not been engrossed by the singles that preceded it. I've spent many a year trying to rebel against the enormous popularity of Arctic Monkeys that plagued my university years but i just couldn't resist them in the AM. Dark, brooding and incredibly sexy. Still not enough to have me digging back into their back catalogue though. And losing out the big diva battle of 2013 quite comfortably here is the third outing by Ms. Perry, Prism, which doesn't come close to matching the incredible 'Teenage Dream' but offers enough light to warrant a top 20 placing here. The first half especially is Katy at her best, with simply essential pop tracks but the album does decline fairly rapidly and descends into forgettable territory where everything blurs into the same subtle sounds. Potential is there for some huge singles to come out of it so fingers crossed she makes the right (and obvious) decisions.
December 7, 201311 yr just gonna go with YES Rhye and a smaller yes for Lorde which has been my surprise album of the year.
December 8, 201311 yr Author You deserve your name on a crown 0pvDawy8Ns0 17. V V Brown - Samson & Delilah [9-8-8-5-3-2-2-6-7-9-12-12...] 01. Igneous 02. The Apple 03. Faith 18. The Weeknd - Kiss Land [2-3-5-5-7-7-11-15-19-20] 01. Belong To The World 02. Kiss Land 03. The Town First up is the hotly anticipated follow-up to the mildly life-changing 'Trilogy' collection from The Weeknd, with Kiss Land which is more 'Long Agonising Cuddle Land' than anything else. The ideas are all there but it never feels as compelling, complete or engaging as his earlier works. Saying that the highs are still phenomenal and it definitely continues the artist's ride away from the alluring obscure enigma he started out as. And following on from that, taking quite the opposite turn from huge pop songstress to ~arty~~ ~obscure~ ~~ladyofthenight~ is V V Brown whose transformation, though not entirely convincing at first, managed to completely grab me by the hair a few listens in and have me hooked. 'Igneous' as i've mentioned to death, remains the ultimate power anthem of the year, but the rest of Samson & Delilah follows on from its thumping, electronic, sometimes vulnerable tones to create an accomplished, Madonna tributing, steam-roller of an album. Whatever she decides to become next time, i'll be there waiting with my knives and scissors if she delivers like this again.
