I'm actually rather looking forward to this. Love the original and hated the last US version. Hopefully this will erase that horror. Seems like they've got the big G's look right too.

FUCK ME SIDEWAYS. I for one am ridiculously excited for this!

This definitely looks like it's a lot more of a sophisticated monster movie, just really hope it actually delivers. The monster looks amazing from what I can see *.*

THIS is going to be the summer blockbuster of the year. Looks amaze, and Cranston wouldn't touch the lead role if the script was poo.

I watched the official trailer at the cinema and i was so impressed by the result..It seems that it will be one of the biggest blockbusters based on the visual effects. It really captivated me..I believe that it will be much better than "Godzilla (1998)"..

Godzilla is getting very good reviews and a rating of 9.0 on IMDB. Opens in the UK on Friday, 16th.

It's actually released tomorrow (on "previews" - so no adverts, yay)! Going to the first 2D showing that my cinema has of it and I REALLY can't wait!

Okay so when you've seen it can you do us a review then and give us your verdict? I haven't read a bad review of it yet though!

I did the same, also booked X Men for next Thursday :D got a 30% discount voucher to use on it.

Well... a big improvement on the last movie its a solid script, great casting, the amount of building carnage was plentiful, on the whole it was an enjoyable romp for 2 hours, lots of action and easy to follow. I think the best part of the movie was where the monsters were fighting. Godzilla 2 is in the works apparently, so I'm guessing some of those eggs are going to hatch, that didn't get totally destroyed.

Gets a solid 7 out of 10 for me.

The pacing at the start was a little too slow for myself, but once it got going, it was decent! I genuinely thought to myself "When are we actually going to see Godzilla?!" and I started to question whether it was a Godzilla movie or a movie about

the other monster, thing

at most points.

But every scene I saw Godzilla in, completely took my breath away. It was so well done! The story was a bit naff and generic, but not so much so it puts you off. Worth the watch for sure!

That's what I thought as well so its basically

Godzilla saves the day

Oh dear I'm in the minority...just seen it and the best thing about the film by far is Bryan Cranston. He has an interesting character and gives the role gusto. Sadly, I think he must have read the script rewrites at some stage cos Aaron whatisface is the real lead, all buffed up and blanded out. Some really bad acting in here, some mindless carnage of some of my fave holiday spots (Honolulu? Bring a huge surfboard. San Fransisco? well that puts paid to that street festival!), and big monsters fighting while the heroes watch on and prove to be both the unluckiest and luckiest family in the world, the co-incidences beggar belief. Typical Godzilla then.....4/10

It looks beautiful - that sky dive scene! - but I definitely agree that the script was dreadful. I hear it went through several re-writes so I do wonder if it was the director's intention to have such bland, cardboard characters (and mostly played by such great actors! Cranston was pretty good but Sally Hawkins was in a horrendous register and the rest were just SNORE) to fit into the theme of us just being puny humans who have built a world centred around ourselves, but if so, why spend so much time with them? ESPECIALLY a stolid army guy played by someone with no charisma - apparently the director envisaged it with Olsen as the navy bomb expert and ATJ as the nurse, which might not have made the characters any more exciting but would've been so much more interesting just because no blockbusters do that. Plus Olsen actually has some light behind her eyes.

All that said, it does look gorgeous and the action sequences were great. Plus I thought it had a rather tart sense of humour.

Just seen this and it was pretty great - The monster in particular looked incredible and I liked how it waited until late before showing us him, it definitely still had a big effect. They got it just right with the monster and with those two other things (even though I was a bit confused what their purpose was at first). Very glad they didn't paint him as a villain too and the final scene was wonderful

not that I thought they'd kill him off and close the door already :P

I do agree with some comments above that the acting and the characters for the most part were really unlikable and/or generic, particularly Elizabeth Olsen's character who grated on me a lot. Bryan Cranston of course stole the show and seemed to be the only character with any depth

and yet they killed him off so soon :(

But the film was definitely good enough to withstand that, a solid 8/10.

Oh and there is NO WAY that that 'Happy Birthday Dad' sign would've withstood for 15 years in a destroyed house
