Why on earth would you pre-order it, when you don't know either what the song will be, or even who will be singing it?

It was still a preorder after the show had finished. The single didn't update on iTunes for about 30 minutes to an hour I think. They had it listed as a release date of the 16th.

Sam Bailey isn't doing as well as I expected.

I do think she will appeal to an older audience compared with past winners such as James so perhaps physicals will be higher than digital sales. It also for really good charities so hopefully that will help

It was still a preorder after the show had finished. The single didn't update on iTunes for about 30 minutes to an hour I think. They had it listed as a release date of the 16th.

That wasn't my point though.

What if you pre-order a song you've never heard, then discover you hate it?

I can't see Sam's sales being huge....between little mix and joe mcelderry I think.
What % margin over number 2 in the charts is the X Factor winner usually?

No, my point was that even after we had heard the song it was still showing as a preorder for a while. So just because he'd preordered it doesn't mean he had done so without hearing it. He could well have done it just after the show.

21. The Killers- Mr Brightside

At least the XF has given this a well-deserved boost. Hopefully it will re-enter the Top40 on Sunday.

68. Gary Barlow & Elton John- Face To Face

Thought this would be Top40. Not much of a effect this has had.

90. Billy Ocean- Red Light Spells Danger

Any reason why this is in the Top100?

Sam just made a massive gain perhaps her older audience thought it was a bit late last night to buy it, does anyone know what James biggest lead was last year

Sam- 100

Pharrell- 55.58

Leona- 44.75

Leona has held up very well

Poor Unconditionally :(

I would say 59p would be the perfect price for it!

I am a big Katy Perry fan but that performance was terrible last night

Not sure if there is a usual margin, it probably varies from year to year!

James was doing very well last year:

Dec 10 2012, 12:11 AM:

1. Impossible 100%

2. Scream and Shout 28%

Dec 10 2012, 10:17 AM

1. Impossible 1.000

2. Scream&S 0.1953

Dec 10 2012, 03:54 PM

1 James Arthur - Impossible 1.0000

2 will.i.am - Scream & Shout (feat. Britney Spears) 0.1250

James Arthur - 1.0000

will.i.am - 0.1200

James was doing very well last year:

William sold 75,000 last year and Pharrell must be looking to do around the same this week so comparisons could be fairly accurate

Why on earth would you pre-order it, when you don't know either what the song will be, or even who will be singing it?

Because I pre-ordered after she sung the song, it wasn't available immediately.

William sold 75,000 last year and Pharrell must be looking to do around the same this week so comparisons could be fairly accurate

I doubt Pharrell is looking at much more than 50k at best...

Demi Lovato still down at #21, hopefully she should re-enter lower than Shontelle did last year then! The originals of the winner's singles have been on a downward re-entering trend for a couple of years:

2007 #65 Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston - When You Believe

2008 #02 Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah + #36 Leonard Cohen - Hallelujah

2009 #31 Miley Cyrus - The Climb

2010 #08 Biffy Clyro - Many Of Horror

2011 #19 Damien Rice - Cannonball

2012 #22 Shontelle - Impossible

(though of course Cannonball and Skyscraper both entered the top 10 from performances earlier in their series)
