09. John Newman - Love Me Again

KING.
Smashing charts in the UK, Australia, Germany, Switzerland and now the US!
Seriously though, this is a sound that I fall for every time and he manages to perfect it in this song.
It was a VERY hard song to follow up but his album is still very worthwhile checking out even with it's awful album cover.
I just hope is able to continue his success and build up another smash hit.

08. Biffy Clyro - Biblical

The clear highlight from Opposites, Biblical ranks amongst my very favourite Biffy songs.
I was so happy it was chosen as a single but, despite Radio 1's best efforts, it missed the Top 40 (and the Top 75 too? but I'm not too sure on that).
The first two lines carry so much meaning (not personal tho ha) and set the basis for the song for it to explode in moments of epic...ness.
This is why Biffy are one of my favourite rock bands (am I still allowed to call them rock or will fans of that genre shout at me?) as they can have fun but then they also have songs which carry so much emotion with them, this being one of the biggest.

07. Jessie Ware - Imagine It Was Us

The woman who can do no wrong but can't get a Top 40 hit :(.
She just seems to create all her songs effortlessly but they're all just so so good.
It was a nice surprise to hear as it marked a change in sound from Devotion but it's still as effective and still as good.
Hoping that she makes plans to release material from album number 2 this year!

06. Naughty Boy feat Sam Smith - La La La

So this is my favourite No. 1 of the year and what a pleasant surprise it's success was!
Naughty Boy has been one of my favourite artists of the year and he's been bubbling under the music industry for quite a bit, helping to produce some of Emeli's best music.
It was great to see him have success in his own right and without the help of Emeli and it was also a song that wasn't really chasing any trends either.
The music video is one of the best of the year as well and has attracted over 200 million views without being pushed/a hit in the US (yet anyway ^_^)

05. Disclosure feat AlunaGeorge - White Noise

Disclosure's highest appearance (perhaps suggesting their best song but I'm not sure if I prefer Latch or not to it) is their AlunaGeorge collaboration.
One of their most distinctive tracks, I was really unsure of it on the first few listens but it's really infectious.
Settle really was one of the albuma of the year and deserves all the hype that has been thrown onto it.
It'll now be interesting to see where they go next!

04. Bastille - Things We Lost in the Fire

My immediate LOVE on first listen to Bad Blood, I have still yet to tire of it despite many plays consistently through the year.
The claps, the strings, the rhythms, the singing...
A deserved single that managed to return them to the Top 40, although not as high as I would have liked.
Hope this becomes the next single in the US after Pompeii finishes slaying/stealing your faves wigs etc etc

Great so far, the top 10 especially!! Echoing the love for Wretch 32 and Blackout

From what I've seen, Bad Blood is next. (But I hope so too)

I'll take Bad Blood, I think that could be a good choice not as good as Things We Lost in the Fire though

Trying to work out the ~code~ in the subtitle and failing !!

Lovely top 10 so far. 'Imagine It Was' my highlight, should have been huge.

Glad it wasn't too obvious then! It's about to be unveiled now...

03. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat Ray Dalton - Can't Hold Us

Intitally, I regarded this as a throwaway track but on further listens I really began to appreciate it.
It's a very different sound compared to what is currently happening in the ~world of rap/hiphop~ and that's what makes it stand out so much and be so good.
It's a very well produced song with some of my highlights being the gospel influences, the intro and the middle 8 if that's what it's called?

02. Katy B feat Jessie Ware and Geeneus - Aaliyah

Released as part of the Danger EP this was the best musical surprise of the year.
It's a collaboration of the two Queens of music and they didn't fail to deliver considering there was high expectations.
Their voices just work so well together, tbh they should just do a full album together.
The intro builds up and up even through Katy's first few lines to then unveil the tune.
If released as a single, this could have been VERY big (I can imagine). I guess it could do something on album release as I remember Katy on a Mission re-entering the Top 40 on iTunes at least.

01. Bastille - Pompeii

Okay, so it's predictable and one of the biggest hits of 2013 but idc.
Rumours were building up that Bastille were in for BIG success after Flaws reached a respectable 21 position (although should have been bigger) and it was confirmed that they were right to believe this when Pompeii was unveiled.
It is a perfection in terms of crossover hits with the chanting, the imagary in the lyrics and the drums.
And just when you think the song has revealed all it's charm, you hear the Kat Krazy remix...

Songs that should have also appeared but I sadly forgot about :(:

Charli XCX - Superlove

Emeli Sandé feat Rick Smith - Here It Comes

Everything Everything - Kemosabe

Frank Ocean - Lost

Klinglade - Jubel

Lorde - Tennis Court

Rita Ora - Radioactive

Tyler James - Worry About You

Wolf Alice - Bros

Youngblood Hawke - We Come Running

Those not forgotten but will appear next year:

Katy B - Crying for No Reason

Pharrell Williams - Happy

Sub Focus - Turn Back Time

great y/e chart  Pompeii is without doubt one of my favourite chart hits this yr (just behind Get Lucky). also that MS MR track is really quite underrated <3 and Sir Newman at #9, same position as in my eoy :o

Excellent list for the most part, RH! Great to see Things We Lost In Fire in the top 5 along with Pompeii, it was definitely a highlight from the album and should have done a whole lot better when it was released.

'Aaliyah' really is so, so good. I always think we have 4 (nearly) perfect songs from the album, until i remember this fifth. I was obsessed with the 'Danger' EP at the time so who knows how i'll cope with the album.

Fab list.
