There's even remixes on the radio where Pitbull's part is replaced by a dubstep/EDM breakdown

It's good to see they're doing their bit to try and rid the earth of his presence.

Since when was 'When I Grow Up' a disaster lead single? Top 10 for 6 weeks, a top 3 peak, probably one of their most well known hits (the 'boobies' mishearing being one of the reasons for that) and helped keep them going for another era (which spawned 3 more top 20 singles). It sold decently for its time (around the same as Rule The World, which is deemed a pretty successful Take That track). It wasn't a #1 but a disaster?! What a ludicrous statement.

The fact it caused their second album to completely bomb I'd say.

It is interesting that I cant really think of a girlband who has been aimed at straight males? What I mean is the music not the looks. I'm sure music more along the lines of Rihanna but as a girl band would be more tempting to a straight male buyer, but songs like Disco Love and Little Me are never going get straight male purchases.

Edit -Maybe All Saints? They seemed to be cool enough and have more a neutral sound, even covering Red hot chili peppers.

I'd suggest All Saints too. Both my mum and dad - who were fans of the likes of Blondie, Dire Straits, Led Zepplin, Queen etc back in the day - listened to quite a lot of All Saints when I was younger. I remember 'Never Ever' being on one of the mixtapes my parents made for our car.

It was beyond tacky and sort of turned them into the typical girl band from what I seem to remember.

Well from what I've gathered it's one of their most loved tracks, so I highly doubt it.

How about the Bangles, or the Go-Go's?

Poor Pitbull. First Heart FM cutting him out of Give Me Everything, now this.

I don't think they were ever likely to keep up high album sales - if the singles to follow were stronger, they'd also have gone on to sell more. 'Whatcha Think About That' was never going to sell the album in a million years and 'When I Grow Up' at least got it a respectable peak. Add that to the fact the single did very well, didn't bomb down the charts etc. - I think you're hard pushed to describe it as a DISASTER even if it wasn't an ideal single on the ALBUMS front. 'What About Us' was hardly an album seller imo (although a different scenario to Doll Domination, I appreciate), due to the dancey nature of it, but that certainly couldn't be described as a disaster.

I thought 'I Hate This Part' was really a strong single, one of their best and I still listen to it regularly but by that point people had just lost interest. :(

Well, I'm not going to disagree with you there - I Hate This Part is a really stunning song. I'm just saying, if you forget personal opinions, When I Grow Up wasn't really a disaster and probably kept their name alive due to it's gimicky nature.

Honestly I think PCD's second album doing badly had more to do with people just losing interest in the group itself rather than the music. It was too much to ask 'When I Grow Up' to keep the public interested in the girls imo.

I Hate This Part still did well though, didn't it?

Honestly, after the rest of the group decided to leave, I think they should've just got a new line-up (nobody would've noticed lol) rather than Nicole going solo, since, even if they were struggling a bit, the Pussycat Dolls brand was huge, whilst Nicole's name isn't as much. Although Nicole's solo career gave us Right There, so I can't complain too much.

The charts are so boring these days, I hardly have interest in them now. I suppose Pitbull will be #1 soon............
When I Grow Up did just fine. Yes it was a highly anticipated lead single from a huge act, but it could've done worse. It spent its first 4 weeks in the Top 5 and first 12 in the Top 40. Whatcha Think About That killed all momentum but I Hate This Part pretty much saved the album from tanking any worse. It is kind of similar to The Saturdays' current era. Big first single, flop second single, decent third single. Hopefully Not Giving Up follows in Jai Ho's footsteps ^_^
BPI announced the singles that have had certifications, What About Us is not one of them.
Haim are a good example of a "girlband"who are cool and who males & females love!

In that case why are bothering to post in the thread to tell us that

HAIM aren't really comparable to The Sats, Little Mix and the like. They're actually a *band*, not just a group. They have a lot more 'credibility' than acts like The Sats could ever get.

Rizzle Kicks on Wossy now performing Skip to the Good Bit so it could rise to the top 10 now!!
