Lots of the recently reduced albums have taken sharp falls today, despite still being at the reduced price - odd. A bit of effect from NYE Top of the Pops evident here (and of course the New Year's Eve compilation albums).

Is that Pure 80s pop album that's at #12 in the album charts with 50 80s classic really 79p for the entire album?! Glitch/mistake?!

Clearly an error, but it does indeed appear to genuinely be on sale for 79p - that explains its sudden appearance so high in the chart. Sure it'll be corrected pretty quickly :P

 

50 tracks for 79p, or 1.58p per track, not a bad deal! Almost tempted to download it myself but I don't see many tracks on there that I particularly care for.

Beyoncé still on for no1 but a lot of people will be out in the shops for the sales and so a lot if CDs will still be being sold!

I bought it. Only about 7/50 songs I like, but great deal all the same.

With 50 tracks for 79p, you only need to like 4% of them for it to be worthwhile! :D

 

Besides, one of them was Martha & The Muffins 'Echo Beach' so that makes it worth it on its own!

'Echo Beach' and 'Gold' are both good songs at least. Plenty that I don't even recognise on there though. I've decided to buy it anyway, can't pass up on an offer like that really :P

 

It's up to #2 on iTunes now by the way - if it dethrones Now! 86... :lol: Avicii and Rudimental have also overtaken Beyoncé, the latter because of Jools Holland and the former because of, er, New Year I guess?

Too late to take advantage of the Pure 80s Pop mistake now, it's back to £11.99 - already back down to #5 from #2 earlier, expecting to see an enormous drop tomorrow :lol:

 

Lots more Jools Holland-related movement now (Rudimental/John Newman/HAIM/The Lumineers/Laura Mvula) and Gary Barlow/Take That climbing from his performance on the BBC New Year coverage.

Glad I got all those songs for 79p before they corrected the mistake!

Great to see Rudimental benefitting greatly from nye! Hopefully it has a good chance of being the first no1 of the new year. Although Gary Barlow has climbed immeasurably since last night it's strange how he hasn't went top 10 because of the big nye tv slot. Maybe artists like him are more physical sellers?! Or maybe I assume the price is still the pre Xmas price whereas a lot of the best of 2013 albums are around 5.99!

 

I'm also looking forward to seeing how album downloads fare this week (I assume they'll recover back from the 15% low of Xmas week as people return to normal consumption methods) to see if they rise again to above the 2013 ave of 35-40% because people may have got new devices?!

The first single EP to appear in a top 100 since I restarted these updates, from Vance Joy. Single EPs used to flood the chart every week but they seem to have gone out of fashion now so there will be fewer and lower as more and more artists don't bother releasing remixes and B-Sides. Sigh.

 

Oh and there's the big drop for 'Pure 80s Pop', but curiously an even bigger drop for 'Classic FM Hall of Fame 2013'.

 

I thought Justin Bieber said 'Journals' would be deleted from iTunes on 2 Jan but it's still there and even climbing so he obviously changed his mind. EDIT: Appears the deletion date has been pushed back a week to 9 Jan as the release date was.

I seem to remember Berlin by RY X doing quite well before Xmas which delighted me!

Interesting that P!nk is top 30 despite not being top 100 on iTunes all week - seems other download sites have a larger share of digital albums than digital singles. The rest of this largely correlates with the events on iTunes over the week though! (Would have expected London Grammar to be a bit higher considering they've had 2 versions top 20 most of the week however).

Kid Ink actually might make the top 40 then! Wasn't expecting him to do anything considering all he has to his name so far is one minor top 40 single which only sold because it featured Chris Brown. Pitbull's re-release probably won't do much.

 

George Ezra's EP re-entering today after he was announced as 5th place on the Sound of 2014. Ella Eyre's EP making a re-appearance as well, possibly also thanks to Sound of 2014 though she hasn't been announced there yet.

 

Also, Beyoncé finally displaces Now! 86 again.

Pitbull's re-release probably won't do much.

Mind you, it doesn't need to do much to improve on its current peak of #111(?).

 

I'm surprised it hasn't managed to climb into the Top 100 considering 'Don't Stop the Party' and 'Feel This Moment' were quite big and still get decent airplay on TV.
