Who knows) but it's been a huge hit in the UK and is very US-friendly so without that knowledge you'd assume it had already been #1 in the US.

It's surprising that they didn't release it at the same time as they did in the UK These kinds of songs are more difficult to be hits in the US, and usually start off in Europe first. For example Blurred Lines was big all over Europe, then got big in the US later, and same is currenlty happening with Happy. I think it's because all the pop stations in the US are extremely reluctant to play R&B songs, whilst in the UK we have Radio 1 which plays them more easily. The US is like a country full of Capital FMs. Also, in Jason's case I think they may have wanted Marry Me as a single to capitalize over his Jordin Sparks relationship (although she's famous all over the world, so I'm not sure if that's really the reason).
