Just got back from seeing this and it was utterly brilliant. The cast were all superb (Jen Lawrence in particular) and despite the storyline being reasonably simplistic, it still managed to be massively entertaining and very vibrant. Has anyone else seen it yet? What did you think?

Really liked it. Wasn't quite as great as I had hoped due to the cast involved and David O Russell directing, but it was good enough for me. Jennifer Lawrence really was a scene stealer. :wub:

I really enjoyed the film, but it was the cast that made it for me. They were outstanding and should all be nominated for Oscars, especially Jennifer Lawrence. :wub:

Jennifer Lawrence is probably the most overrated actress in Hollywood, she certainly did not deserve her Oscar, but she wont put me off seeing this.

Amy Adams >>>> tbh. Her cleavage deserves some kind of award.

The girls definitely stole the show though, and Regina, J-Law QOL hatred, will not be tolerated! Her performance in 'Silver Linings' was incredible and she completely deserved the award.

J-Law got an Oscar for a slightly above average performance in Silver Linings and yet Amy didn't get one for a superb performance in Doubt where she held her own while working opposite Meryl Streep? INJUSTICE!

I agree about the length thing. The only gripe I had really is that I felt it could have been a good 20 minutes shorter than what it was, but the brilliant cast certainly made up for it.

 

As much as I love Amy Adams, did anyone else get a little annoyed at her accent? Obviously she was putting on a British accent for most and she did that well, but occasionally when she went back to American she seemed to accidentally slip into British on certain phrases. I know it is only a little thing but it kind of stopped her performance from being just perfect for me.

THANK GOD for Jennifer Lawrence indeed. She was the only reason I went to see it and she was wonderful and then some so can't complain there. Otherwise I think it'll be one of those movies I never quite get, Bradley was more tolerable than he was in Silver Linings but it was just OK for me, not totally my thing (aside from a few moments that made me smile, mostly Jen but not always).

Lies. She was absolutely incredible in Silver Linings Playbook and is brilliant in this. I was thrilled when she won the Oscar and I hope she at least gets another nomination for this!

I watched about 45 minutes before I switched it off, I love most of the cast but it was boring me to tears, the only slight redemption was Jennifer Lawrence's character but I didn't watch enough to really benefit from seeing much of her apart from one scene.. I expected so much more.

Does anyone want a little cinema date with me to see this? I don't want to go alone, but I will, for Amy.

 

Also, is it just me who thinks Christian Bale looks kinda...sexy with his belly and comb over? :lol:

Do they give out statues for 4 lost supporting actress Oscar nominations? Oh, right, I didn't think so~

this didn't end up being as good as i'd led myself to believe it would be, but a bit fun nonetheless. don't really think any of them are oscar winning performances apart from maybe amy either.

 

one thing i do hate about awards season tho is how CRITICAL it makes me. would probably have super enjoyed if it wasn't for the atmosphere around at the mo :(

I watched this movie two days ago..The motivation was the multi-nominations in Oscar..It was a funny movie but it was not so special for having so much praise from the Academy...Maybe some people wanted to promote it with this kind of marketing...It happened many times in the past and i'm sure that it will happen in the future too... The acting was good, Amy Adams was so sexy and the dialogues were quite clever..But it's a crime the fact that "12 Years A Slave" and "Gravity" are in the same categories with American Hustle..Justice has disappeared in Holywood..
