January 12, 201411 yr It's really weird to see such hate for the Under The Iron Sea era in here when it is such a fan favourite and a peak moment in their shows. Try Again is far from being their best moment from that era but much better than a lot of songs we are going to be seeing later.
January 13, 201411 yr Author It's really weird to see such hate for the Under The Iron Sea era in here when it is such a fan favourite and a peak moment in their shows. Try Again is far from being their best moment from that era but much better than a lot of songs we are going to be seeing later. "Under The Iron Sea" is such a wonderful album..It has so many good melodies!! I would say that it's much better than a lot of No.1s in the latest years..Because some epic songs are coming..
January 13, 201411 yr Author No.13 Perfect Symmetry Average Score : 7.15 Highest Voter : 10 (Insomnio) Lowest Voter : 3 (Richie) "Perfect Symmetry" is definitely one of my favourite songs ever!!! I'm very proud of Keane after this song. The melody has a "perfect symmetry". It was their third single and it's the title track from their third album of the same name. Unfortunately, this song failed to chart in the Top 100..What a shame!!! At least, it was a Top 20 hit in Belgium (They always know about good music). I don't want to be a loon for this song but Tom Chaplin has the same opinion about this song. He told Rolling Stone he hopes the collection draws more attention to songs such as "Perfect Symmetry. "That was the best song Tim [Rice-Oxley] ever wrote and the best song we ever came up with as a band. And unfortunately, I suppose, partly because of the nature of radio these days, it's a five-minute song, and we could never crush it to fit into a single edit for the radio," Chaplin said. "We tried and we put it out there, but you couldn't really tell the story in three and a half minutes." I hope someday it will be huge as it deserves..Never it's too late...(Don't Stop Believin'). January 13, 201411 yr Author No.12 Sovereign Light Cafe Average Score : 7.20 Highest Voter : 10 (Luciano, Eyes) Lowest Voter : 3 (Richie) "Sovereign Light Cafe" had a slightly better score than "Perfect Symmetry". It was their third single from their 4th studio album (Strangeland). Keane announced on their official website : "With Strangeland sitting atop the UK album chart for a second week, we're pleased to report that the next single to be taken from the album will be Sovereign Light Café, which is released on 16th July". "Sovereign Light Cafe" is written with inspiration drawn from the town of Bexhill-on-Sea where the café is located in real life and also the town of Battle where many of the roads mentioned are, close to where the members of Keane grew up. It was a Uk Top 75 hit and it had a better luck in The Netherlands (#22). The video was filmed in Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex!!! I guess that this video would be very nostalgic to them. January 14, 201411 yr Author No.11 Atlantic Average Score : 7.25 Highest Voter : 10 (Luciano, O Mie d'Lorde) Lowest Voter : 5 (Eyes, Richie, Aphrodite) One step before the Top 10.. I wouldn't say that it was so close to be No.10 but it has a slightly better score than "Sovereign Light Cafe". So, i think that No.11 is a suitable position for "Atlantic".. It was released as the first single from their sophomore album "Under the Iron Sea" but firstly as a download only music video and later as a 7" Vinyl limited edition. The first verse, lyrically, was different from the final version. Tim Rice-Oxley explained about this song :Well Atlantic was the first thing that we recorded for the record, and it was actually gonna be a b-side. It was weird (...) It's a piece of music that I'm really really proud, and I think we're all really really proud of as a band. It's a great example of a piece of music that we've all contributed to, and it wouldn't be the song that it is unless we all put something special into it. The reason it's the first song on the record, is because it's got such an incredible atmosphere to it, and I guess it's about having a terror of being alone - it sets the mood of the record really well, both musically and lyrically. I think that "Atlantic" is their most haunting performance and it's quite different than the rest..Sometimes the experiments make miracles and Keane composed a great song!!! January 18, 201411 yr 3 epic Keane tracks this time. Atlantic is such a great album opener. I remember being so pleasently surprised the very first time I heard this. Sovereign Light Café is one of my favourite songs of the last 5 years, it really is on par with Keane's best songs! And Perfect Symmetry brings back so many memories from the first time I saw them live, it's a special song for me cause it reminds me of a special time in my life.

January 19, 201411 yr Author No.10 A Bad Dream Average Score : 7.45 Highest Voter : 9 (Jester, Luciano) Lowest Voter : 5 (Richie) It seems that the majority of the voters like so much "A Bad Dream". It hadn't very low points and it managed to be in the Top 10!! It was the sixth and final single from their second album "Under The Iron Sea". It peaked at #23 in the UK Singles Chart, becoming the band's first single to miss the top 20. But it charted a little higher in the Russian Singles Chart (#14). It was composed by Tim Rice-Oxley and Tom Chaplin. It was partially based on the "An Irish Airman Foresees His Death" poem by W.B. Yeats. Rice-Oxley explained on a podcast: We wanted to get a balance between a kinda dream sequence. It starts very quietly, and I love the idea of being in a plane, like a Spitfire or something, being so high up in the sky that you can't hear the guns below you and so on. And it's almost got a serene silence which is what this Yeats poem seemed to really express. The song starts very quietly, but it gets huge and angry as it goes on... The big distorted washy piano sound in the middle is a pretty vast sound and it's I guess an attempt to express all that anger bursting out. January 20, 201411 yr At this point I'm not sure I'm going to find any song being less than a masterpiece or similar. A Bad Dream is one of those hauntingly beautiful and meaningful songs that blow your mind. I remember when I found out what it was about it made me get even more into it. I love when songs have deep meanings and refer to a certain story/poem/book. A very well deserved Top 10 placing for this.

They don't make random songs for success. There is always a meaning behind of them. I noticed that their album charted higher the last week because of their latest performance on Graham Norton..Great!!!
January 23, 201411 yr Author No.9 Silenced By The Night Average Score : 7.80 Highest Voter : 10 (Luciano, Eyes, Insomnio) Lowest Voter : 4 (Richie) Silenced By The Night" had the best score from all their latest releases..What a magic song!!! I can't accept that someone doesn't like this song..:) The harmonies and Tom's vocals fits perfectly to this song!!! "Silenced By The Night" was the first single from "Strangeland". "It was originally only to be released as a commercial single in the United States but the single was released in other international markets too. It charted at No.46 in U.k (Shame) but it had a better peak in the Netherlands and Belgium. Tim Rice-Oxley explained to MTV News that the song provides a good starting point to the album. "It does the job of a single pretty well in that it's a simple introduction to the themes of the album - the journey we all go on chasing our dreams, trying to navigate the bumps with a bit of grace, trying to hold on when things get really rough," he said. Christopher Sims directed the music video, which was shot at a lime salt mine in Austin, Texas. I love it so much, I feel like the Strangeland era is so meaningful to me, because I can totally relate to the lyrics of the songs and it also coincides with a specific period of changes in my life. It is quite special. This song has to be the one that means the most to me from that era. I'm glad it is quite high in here.
January 25, 201411 yr Author It would be much higher if Richie didn't give only 4 points..How could he do this to us..????
January 25, 201411 yr Author No.8 Nothing In My Way Average Score : 8.15 Highest Voter : 11 (Luciano, RiserR) Lowest Voter : 4 (Eyes, Richie) "Nothing In My Way" is one of their songs that it totally defines their music..It was the third track on their second album, Under the Iron Sea..After the French pop-rock band Bubblies, the single's release is notable as being the first ever commercial music release in USB format, a special edition limited to 1,500 copies!!! It was also included as part of the FIFA 07 video game soundtrack. It was a Uk Top 20 hit (#19) and it charted at No.20 in The Netherlands too. But it seems that Argentines totally loved this song that era (#3). Tim Rice-Oxley explained his feelings about the meaning of this song : Nothing in My Way came out of listening to a lot of the poppier end of hiphop on the radio, just kinda driving around and I think particularly the groove of "Lose Yourself" by Eminem got stuck in my head (...) and I guess I liked the idea of trying to do something similar. I guess it was never gonna sound like Eminem, but the groove of it was basically lifted from that, and the song just came from jamming around on a piano. So I guess as a result of all that, I guess it's a much funkier and kinda 'blacker' song than most Keane songs, and that was something that we really wanted to get into the record generally. We were listening to a lot of classic motown as well, much more driving rhythms and you can hear that in a lot of the songs (...) The song's actually written about some people I know who are married, and their marriage was essentially just bringing a lot of misery to both of them, but for some reason they just refused to acknowledge it. I hate the idea of people being so much in denial that they're prepared to almost let their lives fall apart rather than acknowledge what's going on. January 25, 201411 yr Bloody Richie :( Nothing In My Way :D Always among my faves ever from them, hence the 11 I gave it.
January 25, 201411 yr Nothing In My Way is by far the best track on Under The Iron Sea. Still listen to it on an off now!
January 28, 201411 yr Author No.7 Bedshaped Average Score : 8.35 Highest Voter : 10 (Jester, Luciano) Lowest Voter : 5.5 (RiserR) It seems that many voters love this song because it had a great score!!! The chorus has something epic and i think that it's one of their best songs. When i listen this song, Tom's performance gives me always goosebumps and it makes me feel both happy and sad (happy for the greatness of the song and sad for the memories )..It was the 3rd single from their debut album "Hope & Fears" and it was a No.10 hit in U.k. It also charted at No.7 in the Netherlands and it was successful in Belgium too!!! Rice-Oxley posted an explanation of the song on the official messageboard: [The song] is about feeling that you've been "left behind" by an old friend or lover, and about hoping that you'll be reunited one day so that you can live out the end of your lives together the way you started them (...) a hope that they'll eventually want to get away from the bright lights and come back home. It's a sad and angry song, but also full of hope. I think I'm right in saying that in hospital when someone is ill and has to spend a lot of time in bed they can become 'bedshaped'. It sounds a bit depressing (...) but in the context of the song I wanted to suggest old age and frailty(...)[1] Based on the meaning, you can realise that this song is so gorgeous and meaningful too..A rare combination! January 28, 201411 yr YAY! Bedshaped has to be one of the best songs of the 00's. A real masterpiece. I really thought it'd be higher, though.
January 29, 201411 yr Author YAY! Bedshaped has to be one of the best songs of the 00's. A real masterpiece. I really thought it'd be higher, though. It had a decent score although it had the lowest score for a single from "Hope & Fears". The latter is the favourite album of the voters based on the rating. All the singles from "Hope & Fears" are in the Top 10..
