Posted January 7, 201411 yr sutgWjz10sM Indeed, for all intents and purposes this looks and sounds like the Nu Hunger Games (it's even a Lionsgate film too, so much for diversity), but it does look really good all the same. 2014 is turning into a pretty great looking year in terms of films so far. Basically people are divided into one of five sects based on their skills, the main girl is multi-skilled and thus fits into none, which is DANGEROUS (or so a slightly ridiculous Kate Winslet keeps implying) and thus she has to run/hide and shit happens. First part of a trilogy, with the following 2 out in 2015 and 2016 respectively, per the books.
January 7, 201411 yr Well this will have to do a lot to live up to Hunger Games, but it does look pretty good. Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort co-starring in this as well as The Fault In Our Stars too!
January 7, 201411 yr Ooh it has Theo James Franco <3 Looks VERY confusing from the trailer. I had literally no idea what was going on.
January 7, 201411 yr I've read all the books which are really good, one of my faves, it definitely has similarities to Hunger Games but that's not a bad thing in this, hope the movie lives up to the book.
February 25, 201411 yr I can't wait for this to hit cinema's! I'm genuinly excited for this It's in cinema's the 4th of April in the UK and the 27th of March in The Netherlands EDIT: 336qJITnDi0 Edited February 25, 201411 yr by *Tim
April 3, 201411 yr Excited for this. Started reading the books and so far the first one is fabulous (Christina is HILARIOUS!). I'm such a sucker for YA books goddamn it
April 3, 201411 yr Pavlov showing some taste there :P I'm seeing this sometime next week and I can't wait!
April 4, 201411 yr Just finished the book and oh my GAHD it's so Hunger Games I just cannot. Here's a guide for creating a successful YA book these days oops 1. Female coming of age protagonist 2. The story is set in the future after some war takes place 3. The society is divided into sectors 4. There's some annual thing, the most exciting part of every year, happening 5. luhv storeh 6. Bigmouthed secondary character 7. A war/revolt takes place 8. Some (but not all) family members die yay brb writing my own book. A story about a 18 year old Pavella from the poorest region of Russianem, who volunteers herself for the annual Whore-Off, instead of her younger sister. Every region picks 2 candidates and they are forced to have gay ~censored. The last person to survive wins. I will call it THE PUTIN GAMES.
April 4, 201411 yr Actually, thinking about it, the Divergent book is pretty terrible. The first half might've been good but then it's cliche upon cliche, predictable twists, etc. When The Hunger Games is like at 100, Divergent is only about 36 at best. bye (not at all bitter that my mother revealed to me that the main bitch will f***ing DIE in the third book! UGH. She ALWAYS reads the ending or synopsis of every book in a series and knows what is going to happen. WHAT IS EVEN THE POINT UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH)
April 8, 201411 yr just seen it. Think Hunger Games, dystopian nonsense future world where people seem to have devolved Time Machine-like into thinkers, doers etc etc but otherwise look exactly like beautifully coiffured humans. Hairdressers obviously much in demand in this hi-tech yet puzzlingly dystopian city. Super-tech and just one city? Yeah right! raw materials? Food? Mass manufacturing for all the gadgets? Of course the thinkers are the baddies, cos of course smart people only do things to make the world a worse place, say, like medicine, science and the like. geeks unite against geekism I say! Sarcasm intended. The Hunger Games is at least a very good movie, this is just dull, a bit cliched and way too long. The pacing goes slow sloooow slow sloooow slow slow slow, climax-end-of-film-over. Anyway, lots of thug-types, and one proper bitch baddie, which is becoming quite the trend in blockbusters. 4/10.
April 9, 201411 yr I really must finish reading the book before I see the film  the book is a bit slow, I'm about halfway through but just cba to finish it, whereas with Hunger Games I barely put it down for like two or three days until it was done!
April 9, 201411 yr It took you two days to finish The Hunger Games? such a slow reader~ Actions blows up in the second half, so you should finish it! Although I like the first half better - it's just less rushed and more polished.
April 9, 201411 yr I really enjoyed this film at the cinema. It was much better than I expected..It had many action scenes and the screenplay was very good. Shailene Woodley was amazing as "Tris" and Theo James was very good as "Four"...They had great chemistry together..I think that Neil Burger did a very good job. I have watched two of his film in the past (The Illusionist & Limitless). Both of them were quite good. "Divergent" had some similarities to "Hunger Games" and many critics blamed it for that.. However, I don't think that it was a bad thing because the result was very decent. Actually, I found the whole story more interesting than "Hunger Games" (especially the meaning behind of "Five Factions"). I also liked the soundtrack of the film.."Run Boy Run" sounded amazing in the movie. I'm very much looking forward to the next film. P.S Zoë Kravitz looked like "Alicia Keys" and Kate's role reminded me of "Angela Merkel". Edited April 10, 201411 yr by Insomnio
April 10, 201411 yr This trailer looks insanely bad. Not here for a Poundland version of The Hunger Games soz.
April 10, 201411 yr Yeah, so this was really good imo. Similar to The Hunger Games obvz and not quite as good, but what you gonna do. Ignore the obvious comparison, and you have a decent film!
April 11, 201411 yr I saw this and wasn't impressed. Was the main character told to study Katnis for her characterisation? It had potential though, they sequel could be better?
April 13, 201411 yr Saw this last night and really enjoyed it. The pacing was perhaps a bit slow in places but I didn't really mind. Didn't feel like it dragged at all even with the running time about 140 mins. The part where the action really picked up was where I got a little lost (and the way anything could've been a hallucination was confusing~). I feel like it's setting up for a more exciting follow-up? (2 more books with the last being split into two movies again ugh) Theo James was rather yummy! Wish Maggie Q had a bigger role. :( The music was great too, so much Ellie. :o
