January 16, 201412 yr Author Not great numbers for Suburgatory, but the retool has totally worked in creative terms. It's back to being as good as it was during most of S1, if less ridiculous due to the loss of Noah and Jill.
January 16, 201412 yr Just started back last night! Better than I expected for Idol! Must be the final nail in XFUSA's coffin

Night two last year only dropped four tenths.
January 17, 201412 yr The networks really need to look at these ratings, how can cable shows get good live ratings, and broadcast shows (aside from a handful) get awful ones. It's only going to get worse with cable commissioning more and more scripted comedies and dramas.
January 17, 201412 yr Author I think part of the problem, particularly with the shows this season, is that the networks seem to be trying to emulate what works on cable, but doing in the most broad strokes so that it lacks almost all the good stuff that makes the cable shows so appealing.

Probably helps that from cable shows are greenlighted they have about a year to get everything right! I think Fox abandoning the pilot system will work in the long term, but cable original programming is only growing. Such dire numbers for the majority of shows, and chances are they'll drop off too for the next few months, dire states!
January 17, 201412 yr I think the rise of cable TV's availability and original programming could have something to do with it too. People have more options now a days compared to the 5 broadcast networks that's spread the market thinner. Happens in just about every section of the economy.

People have more options now a days compared to the 5 broadcast networks that's spread the market thinner. Happens in just about every section of the economy. But the cable shows are still getting good ratings, especially stuff on AMC and FX. HBO too. There's a handful of absolutely monster hit shows, whereas there's probably ony The Big Bang Theory in terms or original programming on the networks. I don't think the quality of drama is quite there on broadcast anymore, at least not consistently. You'd expect more of the networks will branch out in to the summer broadcasting. CBS had a massive hit with Under the Dome, and then they've that new Halle Berry show that sounds quite good. Then you would expect 24 to be fairly solid in the ratings on Fox.
