I wouldn't technically call this a bad album, but it's not just what I'd want from a Shakira record. Half the songs sound like perfectly serviceable but ultimately forgettable Taylor Swift album tracks. 'Empire', 'Dare' and about 3 others would make for an excellent EP though.

Same here. Here's what I would keep:

01. Dare (La La La)

02. Can't Remember to Forget You

03. Empire

04. You Don't Care About Me

05. Cut Me Deep

06. The One Thing

07. Chasing Shadows

Bonus: Spanish versions of the first 2 tracks.

Tracks 6-9 are totally boring and forgettable, which is a shame as they're right in the middle of the album.

as fabulous as 'dare' is it doesn't fit with the rest of the album WHATSOEVER? it's clearly going to be the single later this year. imagine loving that and buying the album off the back of it?

some ppl are going to be in for a SHOCK

Agreed! Best song on there except Empire but it really doesn't fit, it could potentially be huge but it probably won't sell the album and if it does then Dare fans are definitely going to be floored

I think actually the album isn't too far from what I expected given we heard Can't Remember To Forget You and Empire, it's just really not I want from a Shakira album. Don't Bother is in this vein and is her best song but I'm missing songs like Hips Don't Lie, She Wolf, Wherever Whenever, Loca etc. :(

'Dare' is pretty fabulous! I like that a lot more than anything else I've heard from this album.

It's been selected as the official Brazil FIFA world cup song (or something).

But at least it's still more in vein of the album. "Dare" really does stand out.

TBH I'm not sure why CRTFY wasn't a hit?

'Can't Remember To Forget You' has done a lot better than people assume from its UK performance. The UK is one of the only countries where this song hasn't charted in the top 10. I was looking on its Wikipedia page yesterday to look at its chart positions and I was surprised at just how many countries it has charted top 10 in. It might not have been quite as successful as people predicted due to the Rihanna feature, but it was still quite a big hit in my opinion!

Plus CRTFY just never really sounded like a smash, regardless of the names involved. As much as I love it, it's quite a subtle song with verses that are stronger than the chorus.

It's trickle-sold well though, much like Waka Waka which never made the top 20 but it's sold 350k+ here, more than a lot of #1's!

She tends to get a big hit every few years so it would be nice if Dare gave her that, but I'm unsure whether it will get much of a push here...

pretty sure the chorus' and middle eight was mimed though... and not very well either.
This album sounds just as varied as any of her other records...? Why are people so shocked lol

Yeah I actually thought the whole thing was mimed, some of it pretty unconvincingly for someone with so much experience. I'm no expert on these things but it sounded like she mimed to the original track rather than a pre-recorded version, so overly-produced parts like the last "And I'm like" before the chorus looked ridiculous 'live' because no human can naturally make the distorted noise that came out. She should have just not mimed to that bit if she wanted to retain some semblance of a live-singing-over-a-track-type performance IMO.

I like the song though and she's a great performer other than that.

Love Empire and her performance on The Voice. It just isn't a song you will get full on live if you want it to sound anything like the single you are promoting, so people just need to get over that!

I can see Empire being in some big ass adverts, if it isn't already...

Hope the album does well.

Why are people such a fan of Dare (La La La)? It's awful, the other two singles are a lot better.
