The acting though..... That was meant to be a serious scene, but i just ended up laughing.

To be fair though - Anne Kirkbride has never been known for her acting skills (and her crying is just awful - creases me up with laughter) but her comedy never lets people down. She is one of the Street's 'must stay' characters!

I feel like self-harming whenever Beth, Kirk, Sinead, and Chesney appear on screen, my GOD, nobody cares about their stupid f***ing wedding :puke2:

... and those jam jars really did just look like jam jars covered in rags with a few weeds poking out the top.

I'm hoping they're going to do Steve's storyline justice - the actor is up to it - but is the writing????

I think iv'e fallen in love with Callum. Who doesn't love a Bad Boy?

Also, that new doctor was hot too.

I thought I'd tune in tonight to see Cilla's character return and I was pretty disappointed. :( I knew they were toning down her character but I have a feeling they'll ruin her completely.

Steve's depression storyline is being handled terribly too. It's as if they've gathered every cliche sentence to do with depression and shoved it all together, as well as making it seem people with depression just act miserable all the time. Soaps are meant to break down these misconceptions, not reinforce them.

Cilla's return was very anti-climatic. I blinked and she was sat having dinner with Fiz and co at the family table

Omg no way, Sarah Platt is coming back in Spring *.*

EDIT: ^ Omg we posted at the same time  great minds think alike.

Absolutely agree with this!

I meant to post this sooner but the episode with Steve at the doctors was just so insulting! I've suffered from depression but my doctor didn't sit there telling me the facts and figures about depression or patronise me. It's just not portraying this condition very well for me but things might improve as they've said the storyline builds over Christmas/New Year.

Personally, I think if any character should have had this storyline it should have been Roy, that and David Nielson is a much better actor than Simon Gregson IMO. I know its been said before but Stuart Blackburn really needs to go......

Disagree with this entirely. The people I've known who've suffered from depression have usually been the people you'd least likely to suspect, i.e., the life and soul of the party - but to themselves deeply alone. This is why I think Steve is the BEST character to be at the centre of this storyline - it just depends how the scriptwriters set it out. To be frank - it would be too safe to have the storyline centre around Roy and ... from the way Roy normally acts - would anyone know the difference?

I also disagree with your comment on who is the better actor. Whilst I'd concur that David Nielson is a very good actor I'd argue agains him being much better than Simon Gregson (who IMO is one of the most underrated actors in soap). Gregson could carry this storyline off brilliantly - if the scriptwriters give him the dialogue to work with.

Must just be me then but I think Simon Gregson is an appalling actor. No wonder he's never ventured far from Soap land. Think I'll be giving Corrie a miss if his depression is the central storyline. I stopped watching Eastenders when Shane Richie became a cast member and Steve to me is Corrie's answer to Alfie Moon.

Nothing is as bad as Alfie Moon / Shane Richie!

I was thinking to myself that despite everything else, they did a good job of giving the storyline to Steve because you're right, he's a comedic character and you just wouldn't associate depression with him, so in that respect, they're raising the awareness that depression can happen to anyone.

Is it wrong for me to want Peter to stay in prison and for Rob to get away with it? I mean Tina was a bit of a trollop after all! And a gobby one at that! I'm hoping Carla can't bring herself to snitch on her brother. Being the noble soul that she is though - you just know she's either going to persuade Rob to come clean to the cops - or he'll pop his clogs!

I really felt sorry for Rob last night - and Marc Baylis has done a really good job in making most people actually feel for him - despite knowing his guilt. Mind you! What does that say about Peter Barlow?

I saw the second episode and I thought it was great, I loved the fact the episode didn't have too many characters in it! I still could have done without Beth and her 'singing' but Alison and Marc were fantastic, Alison is by far my favourite actress on the show right now!

Looking forward to seeing what happens for the rest of the week! I hope it's not a rushed ending and that there's some surprises in store maybe!
