Posted January 25, 201411 yr So with 'Story of My Life' still storming on strong in the chart and 'Midnight Memories' set to be released in a short while, how do we think it will fare when it is released? Will they have kept the momentum up following 'Story of My Life', or will this be a change in direction? Will it keep in line with the cross-over they appear to have attracted? Where do you think it will chart upon release? ^_^
January 25, 201411 yr I expect it'll just sneak into the top 10 following the EP release just as their other post-album singles have done. I'm more interested in how it does in the US (where it already has a nice peak). I don't see it having as much cross-over appeal as "Story of my Life" at all.
January 25, 201411 yr #6-10 definitely, can't see it making the top 5 but when the video's out and they (hopefully) do a bit of promo, it should make the top 10 definitely.
January 25, 201411 yr Went for 10-20. May be their first single to miss the top 10. Hope not
January 25, 201411 yr It did absolutely nothing after XF, did it? I just hope Addison Lees don't become 'a thing' for people.
January 25, 201411 yr Nothing got a boost that night from X Factor tbf, Unconditionally went up a few places, and Gary Barlow went top 90 or so, so I wouldn't take that as a measure of whether this will do well or not. The video will give it a bigger boost I think.
January 27, 201411 yr I get the feeling that it could be their first single to miss the Top 10 since 'More Than This' trololololol Joseph Maybe a frustrating position like #11 or #12.
March 3, 201411 yr It's definitely all resting on the EP, can't really predict how much of a help it'll be though. :drama: Chart run so far: Midnight Memories [#46, 12 weeks+] [1st Entry: 01/12/2013] 49-Out [2nd Entry: 22/12/2013] 62-46-68-90-123-144-116-73-73-74-69 Total sales are currently 51,500, not including unknown "instant grat" sales. I wonder what the peak would have been for this single if it had been allowed to chart based on its instant grat sales?
March 3, 201411 yr Can we just accept that their lack of promotion for this has ruined it's chart success?
March 3, 201411 yr Author I think it's the wrong time for them to be releasing the single / trying to promote it when their schedule is getting busier what with the tour rehearsals, holidays, etc. They promoted it and performed it live many times before we even knew it was a single, so hopefully they learn from their mistakes and devise a clearer strategy next time.
March 3, 201411 yr I think it's the first time maybe that the song just isn't connecting with the general public. Otherwise it'd be climbing iTunes at a steady pace. It'll be interesting to see how high the EP sales can get this in the charts but I wouldn't be surprised if it missed the top 10. Hopefully not though as I love the song.
March 3, 201411 yr It seems to me they put in a great deal of writing and soul into this album, but have barely promoted it.
March 3, 201411 yr Author If they didn't have the tour coming up, I'd have wanted them to release a fourth single so they weren't leaving the campaign on a flop (still remaining hopeful it can at least scrape a #10 peak).
