February 3, 201412 yr I think it was because physical CDS had some catalogue numbers or something like that, and singles with different catalogue numbers were charting separately. See also imports. I can remember single charting as an import lower down, and when they had the official release, they were new entries again but a lot higher on the chart. Correct on all counts. I've retro-fitted my data and where an import charts first and then exactly the same material with the same credit charts as a UK release I'm now treating that as the same.
February 3, 201412 yr Author The problem with treating 'Radioactive' as a new entry this week is that its chart position still includes sales of the original (non-Kendrick) version, they aren't split. So presumably you're wanting to combine it all to the higher selling version - does that mean you'd switch back to not crediting Kendrick when the original version starts outselling it again? The OCC doesn't make the split sales public so that'd be guesswork anyway and it'd leave a gap of a few weeks in the middle of the run of the 'original' Radioactive which implies it stopped selling during that time which it didn't. This would not have been a problem in the physical era because the sales of remixes and whatnot were split and generally remixes didn't coincide with the original's chart run anyway, but the OCC's way is clearly the best way in the digital era. I wouldn't ever say a remix constituted an entirely new song anyway unless the lead artist credit changes.
February 3, 201412 yr Author BTW with the Kid Cudi situation the original and remix were only split in the midweeks, they were combined by the end of the week. The Soulja Boy entries were split because they were by different lead artists.
February 3, 201412 yr does that mean you'd switch back to not crediting Kendrick when the original version starts outselling it again? No, I wouldn't. I would use the new credits as it's considered as a main track nowadays (it was released later than the original) for me. Back in the physicals era remixes were merged with the original only if there were released more or less in the same promotion time. I don't know about the UK, but here in Germany/Austria the sales of physical single/maxi single/remix maxi were all merged and all their catalogue numbers were used in the charts but the credit was used for the main radio version only. I know I can't compare those 2 eras, but still, in this case it would be better to drop the original title's credits and use the new one's.
February 3, 201412 yr Author I wouldn't say the Kendrick version of 'Radioactive' is now the 'main version' at all though. It's not receiving any proper promotion (apart from the one performance) or airplay, it was just released to tie in with the Grammys performance.

The Soulja Boy entries were split because they were by different lead artists. Ah yes that was it, i checked Polyhex anbd there was only one chart run, that is must have been what happened. Loved that song at the time!
February 3, 201412 yr So when Alicia Keys released Girl On Fire, it had two versions being bought - the standard solo version, and the Nicki Minaj remix. They constantly fluctuated on iTunes and on different weeks, they'd swap. It wasn't one consistently outselling the other. Do you think they should've been split still? It's the same song but remixed to add an extra artist, same as Radioactive (and also Do What U Want recently). Ive always thought of it as quite seasonal too because of the videos xmas scene & reminicent content! It might remind you of Xmas but it's certainly not an Xmas song and its drop can't be attributed to that at all  Edited February 3, 201412 yr by JosephStyles
February 3, 201412 yr Singles 42 62 42 Daft Punk feat. Pharrell Get Lucky (37wks T75) Why is this almost back into the top 40? That's far too big a rise to just be a random movement.

February 3, 201412 yr It won the Grammy Award for Record of the Year (and was also performed). Ah right, thanks. I thought it might be something like that, what with this being 'awards season' and all that.

Think it def crossed over a bit - I even purchased it!! It was a good idea to release it when available increased its sales a lot!
